'■ === G hit-Chat. BY RAMBLING TOMMY. Lavernock Church was re-opened last Sunday, for the coming sesaou. 0 0 0. Mr Morton, is now curate of St Augustine's, and he will assist in the services at Lavarnock. 0 0 0 F Rev E- S. Roberts will in future devote himself entirely to St. Paul's, which is well filled every Sunday, the congregation consisting, principally, of working 1-1 1 men and their wives. 80<) The Sunday Schools of St Augustine's and All Saints' have now been divided. The children con- nected with the former are so numerous, that they have to be accommodated at the National School, St Paul's Church, Glebe Place Mission Room, the Jubilee Hall, and the old Y. M.C.A. building. Where All Saint's school will meet is not yet decided, but hitherto they have assembled in the church. o e 0 I announced, a fortnight ago, that the Anniversary of the Presbyterian Chapel and the Tabernacle Baptist were to be held on the same day, viz., the 19tL inst., but I am glad to find that the latter, at the request of the Presbyterian friends, has been postponed until the 9th June. Mey brotherly love continue. 0 0 0 The Penarth Choral Society is the. name given to the new musical society which has just been stat téd by Mr Justyn Parry. There were about 30 members present on Sunday afternoon last, when this name Was adopted, and certain officers elected. The con- ductor will of course, be Mr 'Parry, Professor Howell and Miss Corn well have consented to act as accom- panists, Mr Rowlands was elected.Secretary and Mr' Cars! on, Treasurer- The society will meet for prac- tice nest Sunday afternoon, when any young people or I ,PIC 1 old ones either, good voices will be condially welcomed. -1' Let not the left hand know what the right hand doeth," said a certain housewife (newly married by the way), in Penarth the other day, when the knife slipped as she was cutting some bread, and cut one of her fingers. 0 0 0 It is only this season that a certain young Penarthian has learnt to ride a bicycle. Last week he was riding gaily along, when he saw coming towards him a fair damsel for whom it is said he has more than a sneaking regard. Of course he must alight and speak to his fair adonna, so just as she came up he attempted to dismount in a graceful manner, and so cleverly did he do this, and so nicely was his effort timed, that he almost knocked the young lady over, whilst she, fearing he was about to fall, embraced- the machine. 000 A certain Penarth tradesman said to me a day or two ago, "when I started in business with a partner I had the money and he had the experience, but soon things changed, and he got the money, and I-I had the litter experience. The partnership has since been dissol ved. 0 0 « The 32nd quarterly report of the Penarth Indus- trial Co-operative Society has just been issued, and shows the society to be in a most flourishing and satisfactory condition, The sales for the quarter I ended March 25th amounted to 12,624 14s 5d, the net profit being f278 2s 4d. A. dividend of Is 9(1 in the X is declaied payable to members, and 10d to non-members. The annual outing of the employees will take place at Tintern on the 15th inst., on which day the establishment will be closed. 0 0 0 The Cardiff Blue Ribbon Choir has given a com- plimentary concert for their respected conductor, Mr J. F. Proud. This gentleman has worked hard for the Societ y, devoting his time and talent without fee or reward. We, therefore, are glad to know that the good will of the members has taken a practical turn. 0 0 0 Before the new road to Cogan, through what is known as Lower Plassev■-street, was opened, it was confidently expected that it would become a good business thoroughfare. Anticipating this, two or three gentlemen bought several housss in that part of t, the street between the National School and Straan- gban's, but after waiting for some time. and there being no evidence that their anticipations would be realised, they sold their property at a loss. I now notice that the two houses adjoining Mr Cornwell's be- longing to Mr Mules, are being turned into shops, and there is talk of some others being served in a similar manner. o « 0 Books have been issued to the scholars of the Tabernacle Baptist School for collecting towards the .new building. The pages :of these bookq are perfor- ated into squares, as doubtless many of our readers are aware, each square being called a brick. A little one on Sunday, seeing these bricks, said, "the new chapel will not be so strong as the old one," and when asked why ? he replied, because it is being built with paper bricks." 000 A lady being asked this week how her sight was,, replied, It is better I've been able to read. I'll tell you what I read :— We've laid our baby in the grave, He neither cries or bollers; We bad him twenty-seven days He cost us thirty dollars-" 0 0 0 The fire manual on Tuesday last was found in vari- ous places and various pieces. 0 0 6 Mr Snell says that the Intermediate School will be finished by September next. 0 0 0 The sign plates depending from the street lamps directing strangers to the Baths and Beach are of such a height and so flimsily held as to justify the prediction that the walking-sticks of nocturnal roy- sterers will soon make them disappear. 0 0 0 P. U, Hawkins was chief engineer during the Cogan Hall fire. e 0 0 Councillor W. L, Morris, J P., held the reins rather loosely on Monday night. If the Chairman were to t insist upon each member standing when speaking the business would undoubtedly be conducted more ex- peditiously and more seemly- At present Mr Guy is the onij member who stands when addressing the Clilir.
