Weekly Notes by Quirkpepip. The Editor does not hold himself responsible for the opinions expressed in these notes. District Councillor W. Ij. Monis, J P., was one of the unfortunate victims who was delayed on going to Pewsey by the recent railway accident between Bristol and Bath. 000 "Timothy Slick" must have been a bit of a ver- dant phool in his courting days 1 Oh, the agony of his sweethearting 000 There have been many guesses as to" Tim's" ident tity. His nationality has at least betrayed him. In hid poetical effusion last week he made hewl" rhyme with It soul." By me sowl," he's an Irish- man, shure! o » f) It is whispered that the Chairman of the District Council will at the next Public Works' Committee be presented ,HEh a natty souvenir in connection with the I opening-of the Reading Room last February. I Colonel Guthrie, J.P., who returned last week from a five months' visit to his son in Ceylon, took a trip, in company with his wife, to Weston last Saturday on board the "Scotia," and, if appearances couut for aught, the Colonel has greatly benefited by his lengthy absence. The many friends, football and others, will be glad to hear tiat Mr John Guthrie is in excellent health and doing well in his adopted CJuntry. o 0 o Admiral Seymour, who visited Penarth on Tues- day, looks every inch a sailor Tall, straight of limb and spare, twenty breezy knots an hoti,, seems written in his very features. When stepping from the steam launch on to the pier, an official prof- fered an helping hand, but the Admiral brusquely 0 y said, Don't touch me. I can manage all right, I've got both legs and arms. 0 0 t Mr Neale, Professor Trowe, and Professor Tanner ) membeis of the Penarth Entomological Society went down to the Yale of Neath abcit Eastertide. j Near Hirwain Mr Neald scaled a mountain which w,:s 1 known to be the resort of ravens, and secured three n fledglings, which he lowered safely to his friends be- low. He afterwards took them to his ho:iv±, where they may now be seen-neady fledged. 9 0 0 Captain Evans, our genial and courteous pier- master, used to trade in '38 to Cardiff, up the old canal, some time before the docks were dreamt of. Iron ore and tin from Liverpool and Barrow were the usual cargoss. 0 0 0 Colonel Guthrie has brought back with him from Ceylon a young bear, which has alreaiy found many friends m its adopted country. I) I) The Beach watermen are still very sore over the alleged unwarrantable a.nd utterly untrue aspersion against their character over t-ha matter of the removal of a seat. They earnestly courtjin inquiry by the Pleasure Boats' Committee, 0 0 ins> -t- RuUci I«u Penarth a pretty little legacy of £ 40 es the result of a raid upon a shebeen, and the shebeener was amerced < £ 40, or to suffer an alter- native of a month's incarceration at the county's ex- pense. By the advice, doubtless, of his astute counsel, the offender compromised matter by offering C3 £ 2 down and promising 7s 6d weekly. This was 0 agreed to, but the upshot is, sa ins alleged, that only £ 2 7s 6,1 lias been paid towards that £4:0. Oh, ye gods and lit tIc fishes, forfend our hucensiug b W 000 On the Sunday preceding the fateful Tuesday when the Conservative Club was so ignominioasly and ruth- lessly put up to public auction some of the pereniallv thirsty souls of Penarth paid a final loving pilgrimage to the club premises, but found the pluce as dark as Erebus, owing to the gas having been cut oft. Lu; in tenebris was, however, quickly forthcoming, for soon empty bottles were extemporised candle-ticks, o < (J The Don "—which is synonymous with Mr Owen ought to be publicly feted. After nearly a twelve- month's hard labour, he has at last made a L £ ? club in Penarth an accompli fait. Aquatic entertain- ments and natatorial displays will now 6,- ihe pieces de resistance of the season. I) 0 (1 Our Beach experts say that the gleam launch which accompanies the Admiralty yacht, Hawk. travels 11 to 12 knots an hour easily. It was really surprising Q to see how fast she Could go last Tuesday.

best and truest sense. There I found several letters awaiting- me, con- gratulating me upon reaching the zenith of happiness and bliss., I gratulzitinc, me upon reachingfhe zenith of happiness On3 was from my old chum Murphy. I am pleased to say that be has exerted a beneficent influence upon his wife, and that they are jogging along quite comfortably- This morning- when I awoke from my slumbers I also awoke from my dream. After all, I find that it is quite true that I am really married. I have been busy since breakfast. preparing for our trip. My housekeeper will look after the hous3 while we are away. She was very much cut up at first be- cause I did not have her for my wife; but some one els6 has soothed her savage breast and they will be married soon- Thus, undoubtedly, some terrible tragedy has been averted. My dear 1 ttle wife has just come in. She puts her tiny little hand on my shoulder) and looking into my face with gladsome eyes, she says playfully "Are you happy now, you foolish boy; are you quite sure you do not repent marrying me ? I simply answer, as my arm steals round her slender waist, and I kiss the shiiiing south "Yes, darling, I am perfectly satisfied." To be Continued•
