G hit-Chat. BY RAMBLING TOMMY. The Rev. F. G. Taylor, United Methodist Minister' preached his farewell sermon to the congregation at Cogan ast Sunday morning-, and in t!'e afternoon delivered a special address to the young people. 0 0 0 The Anniversary of the Cogan Methodist Church will he held next Sunday. The preacher will be the Rev. C. H, Butcher (morning), and Mr R. Bird (even- ing), whilst at a special service in the afternoon, the Rev. W. G. Navies will give an address. The Choir will render special anthems, &c., at each service. 0 e 0 The Members of the Arcot Street Wesleyan Mo- thers' Meeting enjoyed an outing to Cap Coch last Monday. The weather was all that could be desired. and. no effort was spared to make the day a success. I understand there were present in addition to the II Mothers," a few Fathers." 000 The Tories of Penarth, I am informed, are going to celebrate the recent South Glamorgan Victory, with a banquet on the 9th insfc. And why should'nt they ? Who can blame them for having their full fling and pleasure during their short existence ? 600 I hear that Mr Solomon Andrews has received an order for one of his patent busses to convey all the Welsh Tory M.P's to the House of Commons. .00 A gentleman who was conspicuous a fortnight agO on accout of the enormous blue "button holes" he was wearing, was riaing in the train to Penarth. When at Grangetown, he observed a well known :Radical wearing a red tie, and called out to him. ff You must take that coloar down now "No," said the Had, I am not such a jelly-fish as you; one day you are spouting teetotalism, and the next you are working for a man who is pledged to oppose the Temperance cause. Shame should cover your face." This was one too many for the bine." He hung down his head, and at once drew it inside the carriage, but he had a livelf time during the rest of the jour ney. He struck the first blow, forgetting the strength of his antagonist, and was then annihilated, 000 The Co-operative Industrial Society is still on the up-grade. The quarterly balancelsbeet has just been issued, from which we note that the dividend payable to members on their purchases has gone up a penny, viz., 1/10 in the £ whilst non-members receive lid, in the f. 0 0 o The whole of the ground recently granted for allot- ments near Sully Terrace has been taken up. It has been divided off and fenced, and the members are well pleased with their bargain. a 0 0 I was talking to a gentleman a few days ago about the difficulties of the English language. He has since sent me the following Mr Hugh Hughes went to hew down a tree, when a person asked him if he had seen his ewes. Mr Hughes replied, if you wait until I hew down my yew tree, I will help you to find your ewes," « » Cogan Allotment holders are proud, and rightly so, of their gardens. Through the kindness of a couple of members of the committee, I was privileged to take a walk through the grounds on Tuesday after- noon, and I am pleased to be able to compliment most of the men upon the care exercised, not only in the cultivation of the various crops, but also in the neat manner in which the plots are kept. But here, as'felse where, are traces of the happy-go-lucky man; the man who evidently thinks that God intended the weeds to grow in his garden or they would not be found there* But to take the gardens as a whole, they reflect the greatest credit upon the holders, and are second to none in the district. The paths are well kept, good use appears to be made of every bit of ground, the root crops are very fine, whilst the peas, beans, cab- bages, d-c., are superior to anything I have seen this season. Two or three devote a little space to flowers, but this is the exception, the great majority choosing to cultivate whai is really useful and necessary im enabling the good house-wife to provide substantial meals for the whole of the family. Some also keep a gopd pig in the sty. With such gardens, the forth- coming Horticultural Society's Show ought to be, from an exhibitor's point of view, a great success.
