REGISTER! REGISTER I "REGISTER THIS word. thrice repeated, bears with it oue amd yet three distinct degrees ot meaning. Register it is a privilege. Register! Register!. it is a necessity. Register Register! Register it is urgent- imperative—duty to yourself, and country demand it. It is a privilege because it is only by this means you can get to have a word in the management of the affairs of the country. Every man likes to feel that he is of some use in the community, and the more we realise our individual importance, so much the greater and nobler will our aspirations become. In our little homes this is exemplified, and in the management of State affairs we aie privileged to have a voice if we will, but first of all we must seek that privilege, and if we fail to do this w neglect our duty, and England expects every man to do his duty. There was a time when many of the working men of our country did not possess this privilege, but for you it was fought for and won against great and determined opposition. Remember, then, that to have your name on the register is a privilege. It is a necessity. There are certain qualifications which a man must possess before he can claim the privilege referred to. Only that man can claim a vote as a householder who has been in possession of a house as tenant from the 15th July, 1894, to 15th July, 1895, so that whilst this makes the privilege the more pronounced, yet it also shows to us the necessity of embracing the privilege. It is the voters of our country who have the privilege of electing the men to govern us, and it is by the voice of the people thot Governments rise and fall. Evenlhe fate of the country, or the passing of any great measure into law, may depend upon one vote. (Note Durham, e.g.) Then it becomes a necessity that every man should embrace his privileges, and at this time it is of necessity that a man (when hepossssses the qualifi- cation) nhould see that his name appears on the Register of Voters. Then it is not only a privilege uud a necessity, but the case is urgent, imperative, and duty demands it. It is urgent and imperative that immediate attention should be given to the summons to register. The 20th of this month will be the last day for sendmg in claims to the overseer. It is urgent and imperative because as men we ought to be living up to our privileges- God has given us our reason, and with it He has placed upon our shoulderii certain duties. These iuclude, as weiias duty to self, duty ¡ to God, and to our fellow men. We are called upon to assist in making lawa for the government and pro.
