"r- = U hit-Chit. BY RAMBLING TOMMY. The new Tabernacle Baptist Chapel will be opened for Divine Worship on Wednesday, the 20th Novem* bcr. In the afternoon a sermon will be preached by the Rev. Moffat Logan, of Bristol. A tea meeting will follow in the schoolroom, and in the evening-, a sermon will be preached by the Rev- J. D. Hiley, of Jiiisto!- On Sunday, November 26, tie preacher will be the Rev. Dr. Booth, a special service for the yourg being held in the afternoon. -0- The new organ will be opened at the same time, and the choir will render a special seleeiion of choice music. Farther particulars will appear in due Course. -0- In connection with the Church of England Temper- ance Society, an entertainment will be given in the National School-room next Thursday, the admission being 3d. each. -0- A case of some mferest it: likely to come before the Cludiff Couuty Court at its next sitting. It appears that for a certain society, twelve months ago, a lustrmnent was obtained on the hire system, but the Bociety having been brokeu up, notice was given with a request to take the instrument away. The fhm Who supplied the instrument, however, declined, and have issued a summons against the secretary who sigUfcd the agreement, the amount claimed, being for four monthly ins alments. The claim wiiile contested —o— On the 'I'aff Vale Railway for the past week in fmssenger and parcels traffic, the receipts amounted to £ 2662, and in merchandise and mineral traffic to X 12,072, making a total of X 1-4,734, against X-1 5,444 in the corresponding period last year, a decrease ot X710. The aggregate decrease now amounts to £ 8,240. -0-- We regret to state that Mr David Roberts, (lata of Penarth,) Shipping Superintendent under the Harry Dock and Railways Company, has been confined to his bed, at his residence at Barry, with a very erIuus illness. We are glad, however, to learn that he is slightly better. -0- The Saiisbtiry Conservative Club was opened on Saturday last. Mr Lovegrove, who iormeriy kept a green-grocery store at the corner of Glebe Street (opposite Stranaghan and Stephens') is rbe honoured Secretary. But why the change in the name of the Club ? Echo answers why. -°-; The opening of the new Tabernacle Baptist Chapel, will be preceded by 10 days' special prayer, com- mencing Sunday, November 10th. The proposal to erect a Temperance Hall in Penarth, is not to be like a flash in the pan, for having been planted it is taking deep root, and at the next Committee meeting of the Total Abstinence Federation, a scheme will be presented,, and particu- lars of various sites will be put before the members. It is probable that a Company will be formed, and that shares will be offered to the public at such a rate as 10 give -llmost every man an opportunity of be- coming a Shareholder, and having a voice ill its management. This proposal seems to commend itselt to the larger number, in preference to its erection hy public subscription- -0- There was a grand organ recital at St. Augustine's Church, on Wednesday evening. The Rev Dr. Edwards, Principal of Cardiff Baptist College, preached in connection wil.b Stanwell Road Baptist Chapel Anniversary last Sunday. At night the Doctor held his audience spell bound. Thtough- cut the day the congregations were large. -0- On Wednesday evening, there was a grand Soiree arranged by the members of the Stanwell Road Christian Endeavour Society. The programme was of exceptional morit. Refreshments were served during the interval between the two parts. -0- On account of the rowdyism of the Neath crowd on the occasion of the Penarth v. Neath football match a fortnight ago, the vV p]sh Football Union on Thursday eight, decided to suspend the ground for one week, the only result of this being that the seconds match Llanelly A v. Neath A, will not be played. -0- Some of our poultry, pigeon and cage bird fanciers will shortly hold a meeting to consider the advisability of establishing a fanciers' society for Penarth and district. -0-' A similar society has been formed at Barry, the officers of which were elected on Wednesday evening, last. -')- At the Morriston Cage Bird Show on Thursday, Mr J. Hall, Penarth, was awarded 1 firtt prize, 2 seconds 1 third, and V.H.C. -0- The Penuel Welsh Baptist friends have decided to' hold a series of monthly entertainments similar to those held last year. An exceptionally good pro- gramme has been provided for the inaugural mecting next Wednesday.
