"THE MOUTHPIECE OF ONE MAN." THIS is the terse description given in a letter from Mr John Blud, published in last week's issue of this journal. Mr Blud, in that letter, was, in a way, replying to an anticle which appeared in The Weekly News of the 21st February, in which we invited Mr Blud to define, and state what he meant, by the phrase "grave and serious charges as used by him in reference to the insinuations against the Cowlyd Water Board. In that article, too, we commented upon Mr Blud's remarks with reference to the Rev W. Venables-Williams's alleged refusal to reply to letters addressed to him with respect to land required, by the Council, for an Infectious Diseases Hospital. Mr Blud, in open Council, had taunted the reverend gentleman with ignoring these letters, although the Rev W. Venables-Williams had often paraded his anxiety to have an Infectious Diseases Hospital estab- lished. But it turned out that no letters on this subject had been sent to the Rev W. Venables-Williams, a fact which, when stated by the Chairman, knocked all relevancy out of Mr Blud's remarks. Now, in reply to our challenge to define 11 the grave and serious charges sup- posed to affect the Cowlyd Board, and, we suppose, by way of retort to our condemnation of his remarks anent the Rev W. Venables-Williams's alleged refusal to answer letters about a plot of land for an Infectious Diseases Hospital, Mr Blud states that he does not feel concerned about our opinions," does not value them," and therefore declines to send us the reply we wish for." Further, Mr Blud says in his letter (which, be it remembered, we published in full), that he is "satisfied that our paper is not of an independ- ent character but merely the mouthpiece of one man, that our circulation is limited to a small number, and likely to remain so," and that he had therefore decided not to make use of our columns in any way," "yet still remain yours cheerfully John Blud." We do not intend to say much about Mr Blud's letter, but we may point out to our readers in the first place that once again our efforts to get at something tangible about the insinuations which have been scattered broadcast about the Cowlyd Water Board, have been foiled by Mr Blud's refusal to send us the reply we insisted for." We asked Mr Blud to state in explicit terms what "the grave and serious charges" against the Cowlyd Board of which he spoke at the last ordinary meeting of the Colwyn Bay Council, were. Mr Blud refuses to reply, because, for- sooth, he does not value our opinions That is not the point. Does Mr Blud value the opinion of the ratepayers of Colwyn Bay ? If he does, then, in our opinion (.vhich, however, Mr Blud professes not to value) it would be well to answer our questions, to reply to our challenge,—a question which we can assure Mr Blud is one that the great majority of the ratepayers would like to have answered, and a challenge which, we can also assure Mr Blud, many ratepayers, besides our selves, are putting to all who have been making these insinuations against the Cowlyd Board.
