Admisssion, 3d. 595-10 Mr. George Grossmith's Humorous and Musical Recital will be given at the Oxford Hall, on Wednesday evening of next week, and so great is the popularity of this genial entertainer that it is incumbent upon all who are desirous of securing good seats to take an early opportunity of securing their tickets. Mr. R. G. Williams, of Penmaenmawr, was the winner of the first prizo in the handicapped slow race for bicyclists at the Llandudno Swifts Football Club Athletic Sports, held at Llandudno on Saturday afternoon of last week. List of Visitors and Advertisements received for this paper by Mr. M. H. Parry. Stationer, &c., Clarendon Buildings, or may be sent direct to the proprietors, R. E. Jones & Bros, Weekly News Office, Conway. It has given much pleasure to the townspeople to learn that the Misses Belcher have purchased Trewen, the charming villa, which for some time they have made their home. Ever since they have taken up their residence at Penmaenmawr, the Misses Belcher have been generous in their sup- port of every good cause, and in this and many other ways have they won the profound esteem of the inhabitants. It is hoped that these kind ladies will long be identified with the social life of picturesque Penmaenmawr. The Royal Welsh Ladies' Choir gave a splendid concert in the Oxford Hall on Tuesday evening, and had an audience worthy of the musical treat provided, the Hall being overcrowded. The Very Rev Dean Howell, of St David's, will preach next Sunday morning and evening, in St. Seiriol's Church, in aid of the Parochial Clergy Fund. Musical Successes. Among the successful candidates in the recent examination uf the Incorporated Society of Musicians, held at Llan- dudno, are the Misses Lillie Bull and Anne G. Williams (Conway), pupils of Mr S. Mendelssohn Jones also for violin-playing, Miss Mary Jones (Penmaenmawr), pupil of Miss Hewitt. Property Sale at Penmaenmawr. THE TANYFOEL ESTATE. On Monday afternoon, at the Penmaenmawr Hotel, Mr Wm. De\\ (Messrs. Dew & Son, Bangor), offered for sale the freehold mansion and grounds known as Tanyfoel, valuable freehold farms and cottages known as Penybryn, Cefn Main, Bryn Iolyn, Gwddw Glas, &c., two lease- hold residences standing in their own grounds and known as Trewen and Gwysfa, together with 17404 square yards of leasehold building land, in all covering an area of 101 acres. Messrs. F. Walker & Pettitt, solicitors, 68, Coleman Street, E.C., were the vendors' solicitors. There was a large attendance. Mr. Dew remarked that this was the most im- portant property in the whole district. Tanyfoel mansion was looked upon as the best built house in the whole of the Principality, having been erected for the late Mr. Murray Gladstone at a cost of jb 15,000, not to mention the thousands of pounds spent in laying out the extensive grounds surrounding it. Dealing with the resources of the district Mr. Dew said that the water supply was, to put it mildly, above suspicion. The local authority had in contemplation a splendid pro- menade, and there was even talk of going in for electric light. It was at the present time a very general thing to let houses furnished, and he might therefore mention that Tanyfoel had been let furnished to the Dowager Lady Penrhyn at a rent of ;CSoo per annum. Lot 1 included Tanyfoel mansion, with its lawns, gardens, ornamental grounds and plantations, and the four Penycae Cottages, the land being 9a. ir. 36p., and was withdrawn at ^6,000. Lot 11 was Trewen Villa, which was sold for ^780 to Mr. Harrison, of Burton-on-Trent, acting on behalf of the tenants and lessees, the Misses C. and F. Belcher. Lot 12, Gwysfa Villa, was knocked down to Mr. Oakshott, of Liverpool, at £ 530. Lot 13, part of Cae Tanyfoel, having an area of 17404 square yards, was withdrawn at £ 185.
The Children's Special Service…
The Children's Special Service Mission. We are very glad to welcome the C. S. S. M." to North Wales again this summer. At Colwyn Bay, Penmaenmawr, Llanfairfechan, and else- where, the familiar red flag may be seen flying on the beach each morning, whilst the happy faces of hundreds of children singing their bright hymns, are a sufficient guarantee that religion does not necessarily produce "coffee-pot" faces. It is not generally known that the work done at these services is entirely voluntary. None of the workers are paid, and many are often consider- ably out-of-pocket at the end of the month. The large expenditure involved in printing pro- gramme-cards, cricket-cards, hymn-sheets, and literature, is met by private subscriptions from the visitors who sympathise with the movement,- and who indeed does not ? Hundreds of clergymen, laymen, and others, look back with thankfulness to the benefit and in- spiration they received from the happy services on the beach, when they were still boys at Eton. or Winchester, Harrow or Rugby, or elsewhere. A bright joyous religion which adds a jest to the cricket, and sports, and picnics, which form so essential a part of this movement, and which welcomes children and young people of all sizes and creeds, cannot :but attract our interest and demand our sympathy. We are glad to be able to state that these services are being conducted in more than 60 watering-places around the coasts of England and Wales this summer.
