On Friday afternoon the Mayor of Wrexham, Councillor Thomas Jones, attended the Wrexham Parish Church in state. The new Mayor is a Liberal and Nonconformist, and when elected said he must break through the old custom of atten- ding church on a Sunday, but would go instead on a weekday. His Worship was accompanied by a large number of public men, and the sermon was preached by the vicar, the Rev Canon Fletcher. The collection, which was in aid of the fands of the Wrexham Infirmary, amounted to 1-82 19s. Mr Edward Roberts having declined to accept the mayoralty of Rnthin/to which he was recently elected, Dr. J Medwyn Hughes was on Saturday unanimously elected to the office. A number of important discoveries have been made at Valle Crucis Abbey. Llangollen, where Z, excavations have been proceeding for some time, under the direction of the Rev Trevor Owen. Whilst excavating along the south cloister, near the refectory, a Roman bath was disclosed, with the remains of bypocaut and Roman pottery. An ancient Celtic cross was also discovered, and a tombstone of the twelfth century. Captain Griffiths, of the Church Army, now stationed at Bryn y Maen, Colwyn Bay, is leaving for Carnarvon, where he will commence his duties on J"anuary 1.
