THE PRESS. Ca.ssell's Dictionary of Gardening" is now in its fourth part, and readers have had sufficient reading matter presented to judge of its useful- ness. Their verdict must be a favourable one. No point on gardening will apparently be left un- touched, whilst the subjects are capitally illus- trated by photos, &c. The work is issued in monthly sevenpenny parts. NEWXES' PUBLICATIONS. — Royalties of the World is now brought to a close in twelve six-, penny parts. The work consists of a series of large portraits in colour of the reigning families of the civilized world, with monographs by Rudolph de Cordova.—The achievement of our seamen as told in Britannia's Bulwarks are to be completed in 12 parts, of which the eighth is now issued. The Life of a Century," in the current part, brings down history to the discovery of diamonds in South Africa, and the succeeding march of events." One more part and a most interesting series will be completed. In the "Strand" the second instalment of the fresh adventure of Sherlock Holmes is given, and we think its readers will have their interests rivetted to this new serial of Dr Conan Doyle. Those who just now are delighting themselves with the sea and its surroundings will be further delighted by reading Hands round the coast," which tells us all about naval signalling. There are many other ?ood things in the "Strand."—"The Sunday Strand has descriptions of some pretty harvest festivals, a subject to which many of our readers will be shortly devoting their attention. In the series of religious paintings of the world those of Heinrich Hofmann appear this montli.-In the "Wide World Magazine" Dr Conan Doyle con- tinues his history of the great Boer War, illus- trated with drawings and photographs. Among the other articles are Dreyfus' great book," written by Capt Alfred Dreyfus Round the Isle of Wight in a Canoe," "Through Unknown Abyssinia," &c.-Il The Captain" is as varied as ever, and must be the delight of all boy readers, and not devoid of interest to old boys."
