WISE AND OTHERWISE.
WISE AND OTHERWISE. A dumb-waiter is bolter than a stupid man. The poet pipes the lay and the plumber Inys the pipes. Jonah's experience was an example of prophet and loss. It is difficult to convince a loafer that he bores a busy man. Premature grey hair often causes the good to dye young. Our worst misfortunes hover on the brink of our apprehensions. Some men get into financial straits and others get into financial erooitcds. Tlu man who talks the most about obliging his I friends very seldom does it. Some men take less advantage of opportunities than of those who offer them. An old bachelor says the average wait of women is until they are asked to marry. Money brings happiness to some men because of the interest they derive therefrom. We never heard of husbands and wives quarreling about which loved the other most. The bigger the bore a man is the smaller the hole he leaves when his days arc numbered. Beauty may be only skin deep, but it invariably manages to get a seat in a crowded car. It's always tough on the tight rope walker when he steps from the strait and narrow path. It is said that sunlight is of less benefit to a growing crop of wild oats than the electric light. It is said that truth lies at the bottom of a well. Perhaps that's why the lawyer pumps the witness. A woman seldom objects to a self-made husband unless lie insists upon her wearing- self-made dresses. A scientist has discovered that thirst drives 90 per cent. of mankind to drink. Science is a wonderful thing. Whenever a girl begins to lecture a young man on financial economy, he can safely ask her to name the happy day. A financial noto says that money is easier. Perhaps it goes that way, but it doesn't seem to come any easier. Many a man who wouldn't think of mal;i::g a wife of his cook has no scruples about making a cook of his wife. An old bachelor says there is but one thing sweeter than love's young dream, and that is to wake up, and find yourselt still single. Nothing disconcerts a <;irl more than to brace her- self to meet the shock of a marriage proposal ruu; the shock fail to materialise. She: "Now. dear, we must begin to economise. He: "All right. Begin by making the bread lighter." The man who is always waiting for something to turn up is usually asleep when it finally eenv. s along. A fish diet may not strengthen the bra:n, but a little fislllng tnp often to i-agiiiatioll. Trapeze performers, liquor dealers, and lawyers must be admitted to the bar in order to practise their professions. I have proposed to her just twelve times, and shall not propose another time." "How superstitious you are, Mr. Binks Ilapley: "Clara and I have concluded to go into partnership for lite." BlS: "Sur Who furnishes the ca¡.>ital-Clara's father "Will you have some of the sugar cured ham P" asked the landlady. was it cured of?" asked the new boarder, suspiciously. Y. "Do you think Ike ever lies about the fish lie catches C. I don't; but I think he lies about the fish he doesn't catch."
