RHYL URBAN DISTRICT COUNCIL ELECTION, 1906. To the South Ward Electors. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,— I have been asked to offer myself as a Candi- date for a seat on your Council. A similar request was made to me twice before, but feel- ing that I could not attend the various Committees, where the real work is done, I declined. Now I have ample time at command, and am at your service. Having resided in Rhyl for thirty years, I am well-known to most of you, and from my long experience of our town and similar seaside resorts, I claim to know something of its requirements. I come out as an Independent Candidate. I tie myself to no party. I will always side with those members who will make an effort to make our town popular to Visitors, provided that they will first and foremost keep a keen eye on the town rates, which are unfortunately a sore and a heavy burden upon many. RHYL URBAN DISTRICT COUNCIL ELECTION, 1906. To the Electors of the West Ward. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,— At the request of several influential rate- payers and property owners in the Ward, I have consented to offer myself as a candidate. In doing so I may say that I contested the West Ward on two previous elections, and was only four votes short each time of being elected. I have been a ratepayer and property owner in the town for about 20 years, and have been an employer of labour for many years. The town is at present in rather a critical state, burdened as it is with heavy rates. If you do me the honour to elect me, it shall be my determined endeavour, not only to keep the rates from increasing, but to have it substan- tially reduced, which, with careful and econom- ical administration, I believe, can be done, without in any way neglecting what is neces- sary to keep up the town as a first-class Health Resort. Miss Mabel Hughes' Concert. A capital programme was gone through at the Town Hall yesterday evening, on the occasion of a complimentary concert arranged by the Rhyl Amateur Brass Band to afford the public an oppor- tunity of recognising in a practical manner the valuable services so readily rendered by Miss Mabel Hughes at the various musical functions held in the town and district. A better house could have been desired, but a more appreciative one it would have been hardly possible to secure. Mr J W Jones, chairman of the Council presided. Amongst the contributors to a ldver3- Jenjoyable programme were the following :—Rhyl Amateur Brass Band and Choir (conductor, Mr D Owen), Miss Bessie Evans, Miss Louie Williams, Miss Lizzie Evans Mr J Morris Joney, Esward Henry Street; tho Rhyl Juvenile Pierrots (under the direction of Mr and Mrs Sarson), including Miss Violet Harris, Miss Julie Sarson, Miss May Williams, Misses Lilian and Doris Watson, Master Eddie Davies, Misses Mabel and Esther Williams, Misses Hetty and Louie Hubbard. Miss Mabel Hughes acted as accompanist. In the couree of the proceedings the Chairman expressed Miss Hughes indebtedness to the promoters of the concert, and the public for their kindness towards her, and on behalf of her many friends presented her with a beautiful gold bracelet. The gift was suitably acknowledged on behalf of Miss Hughes by Mr Isaac Batho, who also moved a vute of thanks to the Chairman, which was seconded by Mr Isaac Jones and cordially endorsed by the company. For the decorations the promoters have to thank Messrs Fred Roberts & Co, Mr Geo Newman, aud Mr P J Afield.
