Merthyr Tidvil> Sept. 3, IS33. The only Independent Reli- gious Journal. THE CHRISTIAN ADVOCATE is the only truly independent and unshackled religious newspaper in England,—the tool of no party, and the organ of no body. Its energies are directed to the developeuient and defence of truth°to free inquiry, to the promotion of civil afid re- ligious liberty, to the upholding of good morals, of true religion, of the genuine and universal Church of Christ, and°to the diffusion of peace and good will among men. While it is strongly opposed to State patronage in religion, whether one or more sects be preferred to the rest or whether all alike enjoy the support of Government, it is equally free from partiality to any one or more denomi- nations of Dissenters. The existence of real religion, wheresover found, it is prompt to acknowledge, and ready to labour for its increase; and if, in any society, more religion or religious zeal be atfected than really exists, the fear of offending man never prevents it from unveiling hypocrisy, or exposing the inadequacy of etlort. Those who take it up may rely on it that they arc reading the whole truth, respecting any given subject, so far, at least, as the information of the editors may extend for, while nothing is inserted in its columns for the mere purpose of pleasing any party, nothing is suppressed from a tear of giving offence. The interests of the religious public, or, more properly speaking, the interests of religion itself, are atondilv kent in vipw. and are the onlv leading-star by "J .-r- which the editors direct their course. The Christian Advocate Newspaper was established January 7, 1830. In addition to its religious information, which is made as ample as possible, it embraces all the features of a general Newspaper, including the Corn, (Monday's), Colonial, and other Markets, and is particu- larly calculated for those who desire to possess ii. taithiul chronicle of the times, and to exclude, at the same time, from their family circle, whatever is prejudicial to the in- terests of morality and religion. It contains thirty-two columns of closely-printed matter, in the quarto form, for the convenience of family reading and preservation, and is published every Monday"afternoon, price Sevenpence. The peculiar, long-established, and highly respectable connexion of the Christian Advocate (which is circulated in most Towns and Villages in Great Britain, in Ireland, in the British Colonies, and several Foreign Countries), ,e- renders it a most advantageous medium for all Advertise- ments respecting Books, Governesses, Tutors, Schools, Sales of Property, Situations, Apprentices, and General Business, as well as those of Charitable Institutions, Pub- lie Meetings, and Annual and Occasional Sermons, &c. &c. Office for advertisements and communications, 4, lied Lion-court, Fleet-street, London.
