FROM the great relief and effectual cures afforded to so many Thousands who were afflicted with the above Complaint during the last Slirniner, in London and other parts of the country, and its general use in the* London Hospitals, the Proprietor, at the request of some of the most eminent of the Faculty, has been induced to offer his JETHERIAL ESSENCE OF GINGER to the notice of all Families where medical aid is not im- mediately available. IT is well known that the receipt of Customs in the Port of Gloucester exhibits a most rapid increase of traffic snbsequent to the opening of the Gloucester and Berkeley Canal from ^14,717 for the year 1525, to £ 131,117 for 1834. I he imports into Gloucester consist of produce from the West Indies, America, Mauritius. Portugal, and the Mediterranean; Norway, Sweden, &c.; with a very large trade from Ireland and the Wel-h Coasts. The Com- mittee do not think it necessary to give detailed yearly accounts of these imports, but merely to mention their amounts for two separate years; first, premising that in the intermediate period, the trade has been gradually increasing up to its present point, and that the prospects of future increase are most bright and encouraging. In 1828, the imports ir.to Gloucester, by the Gloucester and Berkeley Canal, amounted to about 111,7b7 tons: in the present year ( 1835). they have reached nearly 250,000 tons. This amount of tonnage relates only to the trade on the Gloucetcr alld Berkeley Canal. The Severn trade is estimated at being nearly one half of that on the Canal. In 1830, the exports from Gloucester reached only to about 100,000 tons- their amount has now increased to nearly 200,000 tons. It has been given in evidence before the House of Lords, that nine-tenths of the traffic from Gloucester into the interior take a direction northwards, and principally towards Birmingham, whilst the number of coaches direct between Gloucester, Cheltenham, and Birmingham, is very nearly equal to tlLlt of the coaches between London and Birmingham The only direct water communication between Gloucester and Birmingham, is by the River Severn and the Worcester and Birmingham Canal, a distance ot nearly sixty miles; the boats on which, independently of the delay occasioned by frost, flood, and drought, consume several days in effecting their passage. These facts seem to demand the esta is lment o a rapid communication between the two towns, commensurate with those established and in progress in other parts ot the kingdom. A very minute and able survey of the line of load pioposed for a Railway between Gloucester and Birmingham, and a very exact estimate of the expense of completing it, have been made by Captain W. S. Moorsom, Civil En- gineer. An estimate of the probable income has been made, from which it ap. pears that no subscriber will embark his capital in the undertaking without the fairest possible prospect of having made a profitable and advantageous investment. Estimate of Income :-two distinct estimates have been made, the lowest of which gives the following result Coach Passengers travelling by the number of coaches at present actually on the road, and a ° relative proportion of posting, are estimated, on the usual calculations for railway traffic, to produce the annual sum of J £ 117 2S6 Merchandize, taking the estimate from the best sources of information"at present before the Committee 70,37 ). The undertaking will be under the management of the Provisional Committee, until the Act of Parliament be obtained, and it is intended to apply for the Act in the next Session of Parliament.
