GLAMORGANSHIRE GENERAL AGRICULTURAL H JJ & Lt AT A SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING, held at the BHAR INN( Cowbridge. on Monday, the 4th of January, 1836, to receive the Secretary's Re- port of the Proceedings at a Meeting of the Central Agricultural Society, in London. The HON. W. B. GREY, PRESIDENT, in the CHAIR. PRESENT. John Nicholl. Esq. M.P. Colonel Hntwisle Rev. John M. Traherne. Richard Franklen, Esq. Rev. Robert Knight. Mr Evar l)avid. Thomas Edmondes, Esq. jjr William Jones. Rev. Robert Knight. Mr Evar David. Thomas Edmondes, Esq. I Mr William Jones. Proposed by JOHN NICHOLL, Esq. M.P. That the Report of the Secretary do lie on the table. That the Glamorganshire Agricultural Society having been originally established for, and having since confined its operations to, •« the encouragement of a" improved system of Husbandry, and to the reward of the honest industry of the labouring poor," within the County of Glamorgan, this Meeting deems it inexpedIent to extend the range of the Society to matters involving the conside- ration of General Policy, or to questions concerning which differepces of opiuions may be anticipated among the various Subscribers to its Funds. That, accordingly, this Meeting, without expressing any opinion on the expediency or inexpediency of the ob- jects proposed in the formation of the Central Agricultural Society, in London, does not deem it advisable to asso- ciate or to pledge the Glamorganshire Agricultural Society to a general co operation therewith. Proposed by the CHAIRMAN, That the following Petition to Parliament be adopted, and that the County Members, in conjunction with the Members for the Borokiglis. be requested to present it. and that each Member will individually use his best exertions to support our earnest prayer:- *< To the Honorable the Commons of theUaited Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, in Parliament assembled. The humble Petition of the undersigned Land-owners, C'ergv. Occupiers of Land, Tradesmen, and others inter- PBleù in the welfare of Agriculture, of the County of Glastiorgan,- '• SHEWETH.-TÎlat the Agricultural Interests of the whole Comity are greatly depressed that the Capital of the Farmers has for a long time been wasting that Rents, in many instances, have been paid out of Capital and that the productive power of the land has been annually decreasing. 'That the present price of Produce is totally unequal to meet the expendituie to which the Farmer is liable and that, except in the best soils, very little now remains p for Rent; and that nothing can remove the present appalling distress but the adoption of some measures which will either raise the price of Produce to the level of the burthens imposed, or bring down the burthens to the level of present prices. •• That the result of the present state of things must inevitably cause a gradual diminution in the quantity of home grown Wheat, and be productive of most lamentable consequences. I-Ttiat, amongst other causes, we are induced to believe the establisimient of Poor Laws in Ireland would be a benencia) measure, because the Irish send their Corn. which has not coutrihutcd to Poor Rates, to staud in com- petition with our Corn, which is heavily charged to the Poor i whilst the starving Irish Poor follow the food which ought to have supported them at home—thus in- juring the Market, and cucreuIIIg the burthens of the English Farmer; and— 'That the injurious effects to this County in particular, from the great facility of communication with Ireland, are too clearly illustiated by the Custom House Returns. We, therefore, humbly pray your Honorable Houe to adopt such measures as may enable us to discharge the public and local builhcns imposed on the owners an.) cultivators of land, to pay fair Rents, to employ labour, beneficially to cultivate the land, and to prouio.e general prosperity, And your Petitioners will ever pray, See." Proposed by JOHN NICHOLL, Esq. M.P. seconded by Colonel ENTWISLE, That the thanks of the Meeting he given to the Secre- tary for the zeal he has evinced in behalf of this Society, in attending the Meeting of the Central Agricultural Society in London, and that he be remunerated his expenses. v w. B. GREY, President. The President having quitted the Chair, Resolved.—That the thanks of the Meeting be given him, for his constant and unremitted attention towards furthering the best objects for promoting the general interests of Agriculture, for his liberal and active sup- port to this Society, and his impartial conduct in the Chair. EDWARD BRADLEY Secretary. CHOLERA. FROM the great relief and effectual cures afforded F to so many Thousands who were afflicted with the above Complaint during the last Summer, in London and other parts of the country, and its general use in the London Hospitals, the Proprietor, at the request of some of the most eminent of the Faculty, has been indexed to offerhis JETHERIAL ESSENCE OF GINGER to the notice of all Families where medical aid is not im- mediately available.
