ON Suiidtiv last Donegal-bay witnessed a thunder storm rarely to he seen, unless in tropical climes. The sun rose in the morning with unusual brightness, but, like the life lit of human hopes, it was of slmrt duration Immense cumuli clouds began rapidly to be formed and hung from the sky, as the black ensigns of the ensigtis ol'tlie coming storm. The air was perfectly still, no sailing clouds or waving vapours to announce the awful pha- nomen-i that were so near at hand. Silent and motionless the darkness waxed and grew untill it b v.-me almost as dark as night. The sea was darkened by the gloom of the sky, and seemed ink when cotiyl)ate(i %itl,- tLc silvery spray of the tide wave that rippled on the shore. Siieve league spcmed wrap- pc II up in a t:i«.tilde of darknss-irs summit was bid in impenetrable iiieht—flashes of electrie fire burst from its vapoury sides—the forked lightning furrowed up the horrid gloom in which it was enveloped, and the distant and censless of the thunder now broke upou the car. The sea in the mean time, became more and more agf tated, but not with the wind, for there was not a brc.itb to raise a rufpio. on its leaden surface. Immense masses of water broke on tlie rocks and sands with thundering sound, that seemed t.i respond the nriiilery of the skies. This piiena- nieiioii, sometimes occurring in calm weather, is called here a ground swell," and is superstitiouslv associ- ated by the siiiors with some impending disnsfor. Just then a s!p was observed, iu the centre of the bny, to be almost in the midst of the storm in a few minutes il was invisible. The greatest an\ietv prevailed as to her fate. It seemed impossible she could escape being struck with lightning. The thunder became lender, and more near—(he lightning more vivid and more dazzling, and zigz ig ribands of lire seemed rapidly waving and cLneing over every part of tiie sky. The rain poured down in torrents. The suriace of the ground seeined one running sheet of water, lit up with unceasing flashes of tlte, red lightning. Tire peals of thunder were continuous, not a moment's silence or interruption, for iiov "everv Alp had found a tongue." This terrific: phenoiiK noil lasted for an hour. The clouds broke up in the south- east-Uenbullen shone, brightened by the sLowor^it) the sun-beams. T lie storm passed awav to t.ie north-west, the thunder became less audible, the iiiore indistinct, as the vast mass of black vapour, which constituted tita thunder cloud, sank behind the mountains of Donegal. The, snip was seen now in tho bav ui hurt, she had all her canvass stretched to a light breeze that sprang np AS if to hasten the departilJg storm, aud brush away the vapours and gloom from the ocean, which now smiled iu silvery ripples to the bright light that beamed on its surface. In less than an hour there was not a cloud to be seen. Donegal bay was a lake of rolling silver in the bright sunuetims. Thcshi¡) bad disappeared fartheon Atlantic. Swollen streams, noisy rivulets, prostrate com, and drippingjthateh, were all that the country presented re- mark Ine, for n'l along tiie western coast there is neither tree nor shrub to wave iu tbe breeze, or re'dect the sparkling beam after a shower. The sorlll was such as was never witnesssed before by the oldest inhabitant. As yet there arc no accounts of aceidnts having occurred—Neivry Teleyruph. THE WYNNSTAY FESTIVAL,—Tbe festivities to celebrate the coming of of Sir Williams Wye.n have been marked, at tbe magnificent mansion of Wynnstav, by hospitality, generosity. and affec- tionate regard for the welfare find all the neighbours and tenantry. At Wynnstay various additions to the buildings and temporary erections p were mnde to accommodate the visiters. Among others, a magnliicent pavilion was erected in tbe garden, from which a corridor extended to the ball-room. This was 1'iO feet long by 50 wide, and nearly 20 feet high, and was supported from the sides, there reillier pillar nor support of any kind witjjitiside. It thus assumed the of a magniflcont apartment, nh (f in the day by numerous windows, and at night by thirteen ormolu chandeliers in the centre of the apartment, with numberless lights disposed around tlie side walls. Tiie pavilion was divided in I lie centre to form both a dinner and a ball room. On Monday tho !:w-,pj¡ 1!itirs were confined to a sumptuous banquet given to 61 of the noble and distinguished guests now resident at Wynnstay. When dinner was announced. Sir Watkin led the Duchess of Northumberland to ber place at the head of tiie tsibie, and then took his own place near tier, having his two uncles, the Duko of Northumberland and the Earl of Powis, as MS II supporters, the general company occupying the sur-, roanditig tables. On tiie same evening a ball place, which was attended by the noble and^ps. ti'guished party previously mentioned, b sides *7^ invited guests. Weippert's band occupied", tha orchestra. Oil Tuesday covers were again laid for 6Z ill the dining-room of the hall, the guests consisting chiefly of the company invited the previous day. On \<,dll!'d, another private dinner party took phce. J the guests being nearly tbe same as those attending on I ri J tbe guests being nearly tbe same as those attending on I Monday and Tuesday. In tbe afternoon the children of the various schoo's at Ruaben v.ere bounteously entertained Oil tiie lawn of Wynnstay. where they danced and enjoyed themselves merrily until nightfall, cheered on bv a well disciplined band, consisting of the pupils of Mr M-deley, who performed their delightful task | greatly to !>is and their credit.. A dinner was provided lor upw: ra: of 5Ji) persons which was laid out in tbo pavilion. Sir Watkin presided at the centre table, having (ne Duke of Northumberland and the E-trl of Powison eitiier side or bitn. Behind Lwse d/stinguis lied personages tbe side board wa* pa ted, on whit h was displayed a gorgeous show of gold and silver plate, ineiudidi: all the racing cups won bv Sir Watkin, not only at Shrewsbury and Oswestry, but all the rat ing counties around. The costly silver vase presented to him by the county of Denbigh occupied a conspicuous place oti the side-board. Tiie dinner included every vaiiety of delicacies, viz, turtle, gibiet, and spiing soups; turbot, s.iiinon, sobs, tench, carp, &e; hot entrees of euht sorts; haunches and necks of venison, roast and boiled chickens, grouse and partridges, jugged hare, h icrshed venison, & Besides these, which were hot, the following were on the board; ham. tongues, rounds and sh loinsof bet f, galEnteeu beef and veil, shoulders and legs of limb, co'd roast chickens, venison pas?ire, lobster salads, fruit jellies, blancmange, and pastry of all sorts and varieties. Th° supply of wiiiCS was unlimited, consisting of claret, champagne, port and sherry, hock, and all other varieties in tiie utmost abundance and the dessert displayed every variety the fittest Britidi and ioreigu fruit. Probably the greatest treat laid before the guests, however, was in abundant supply of rare o!d ale, brewed at the birth of the present Sir Watuu Wynn, when ->00 bushclj of malt were brewed to fill the noble barrel out of which the company were supplied with their invigorating potations. Tlnse iiiiiie'si in rallk in the company appeared to enjoy the nobte liquor with the utmost reiish. Alter it week of one continued round of rejoicing, the festivities con- cluded on Saturday se'nuiglit, when the park, from an early hour, presented a lively appearance, hundreds of persons from Wrexham, Oswestry, and the more distant towns, resorting to the park to witness the rustic sports, mock tournament, and pony races, which werepovided by Sir Watkin for the amusement of all classes of bis friends. Thus terminated one of the most magnificent fetes ever given in Cambria. DOMESTIC is to a woman what the son is io a flower; if moderately enjoyed, it beau lilies, it refreshes, and it im roves if immode- rately, it withers, deteriorates, and destroys. Hut their duties of domestic life, exercised, as they mnst be. in reriremelll, and calling forth all ihe sensibilities of Ihe female, are, perhaps as neces- sary to tbe full development of her charms, as the shade and the shadows are to the rose, confirming its beauty p.nd increasing its fragrance.
