A rare old plant iatbe ivy green. j Fast he stealcth on, though he wea^s "flo wings, || And a stanch old heart has he .7! V How closely he twineth—how tight he clings J To his friend, the huge oak ti-ee. And slily he traileth along the ground, And his leaves he gently waves, < "e As lie joyously hugs aud erawleth round i The rich mould of dead men's graves. Oh creepin? wherp no life is seen, f A rare old plant is the ivy green. Whole ages have fled, and their wofks decay'd^ And nations have scatter'd been, But the stout old ivy shall never fade From his hale and hearty green. The brave old plant, in its lonely days, Shall fatten upon the past; V For the stateliest building man can raise Is the ivy's food at last. Oh! creeping where no life is seen,
