CWMPARK FLOWER SHOW. List of Successe. The second 'annual vegetable, flower ,and poultry show was held on Monday last at the Ystradfechan, field, Trecrky generously lent foi the occasion by Mr W. Jenkins, J.P.). Three large marquees had been erected, one for the poultry, one for flowers, etc., and a refreshment tent. There was a large entry i neach class, and with a fair attendance the success of the show was assured. As a result of last year's show, the handsome sum of £ 30 was realised, and was handed over to the Library Committee. The committee were fortunate in having beauti- ful summer weather, and, notwithstanding nu- merous counter-attractions in other parts of the Valley, there was a good attendance. The judges were: Flowers, Mr T'reseder, Cardiff; garden produce, Mr Gilbert Baglan Hall: poul- try, Mr W. Gibbs, Cardiff. The president of the show is the genial Squire of Ystradfechan (Mr W. Jenkins, J.P.), who always lends a help- ing hand to any deserving cause. The patrons are Mrs Llewelyn, Baglan Hall; Mr E. Davies, Llandinam; Mr D. Treharne, Pentre; and Dr J. R. Armstrong. The chairman of the execu- tive committee is Mr J. T. Williams, manager, Park. while the committee consists of about forty employees of the Ocean Collieries. The important post of treasurer is ably held by Mr A. S. Tailis, Cwmpark, while the secretaries are Messrs W. C. Barrett, M.D.. Cwmpark, and W. P. Thomas, Teorky. All the above gentle- men, together with the committee, have been untiring in their efforts, and great praise is due to Dr Barrett for the completeness of the arrangements. Another important official was Mr G. S. Newman, Tre<)rky, as secretary of the poultry arrangements, and who discharged his duties admirably. Pontypridd. WEDNESDAY.-Before the Stipendiary. Ald. Richard Lewis, Dr R. C. Hunter, Councillor James Roberts, and Mr D. Llewellyn, Dar- wonno. Edward Robert, collier, Cilfynydd, was sum- moned for assaulting John Sterry, brake-driver, Cilfynydd, for disorderly behaviour, and for assaulting P.C. George on the 2nd mst. Com- plainant stated that the defendant and a com- panion travelled up from Pontypridd to Cil- fynydd in his brake on Bank Holiday night, and on getting out Probert paid his fare. but his companion did not. Witness calleu the man back, but defendant came instead, and said he would pay him the next day. at the same time striking him on the head. Defendant said that when he called out to Sterry in Pontypridd, the latter gave him and his friend a cut with the) whip, They then rode in the brake with him, and were arguing the point on the way up, and witness said he would pay in the morning. Complainant then said he struck the men with his whip because they held his horse by the reins and would not loose go. When the defendant said he would pay the next day, he meant it as a threat. P.S. Davies deposed that he heard an altercation between the defendant and the complainant, the defendant saying ,"I'll hit you now if you'll come off the brake, and he then struck Sterry in the face. Sterry jumped off his brake, and the two men rolled on the ground He heard Probert say be would do it again. He was most violent, and was one of a gang of men who went about Cilfynydd assaultingj people. P.C. George corroborated, and addea that when he took Probert in charge the latter- said, "You lock here, Mr b George, when I come back I'll make it hot for you.' and he then struck him. Witness was obliged to hold him at the bottom of the brake from Norton Bridge to the police station. Defendant: I had only about three pints of beer. I didn't; strike the policeman; he was kicking and strik- ing me all the way down. I didn't speak to him; he had me on the floor of the brake with his feet on my chest, and he was making me holler all the way down down. Defendant waa- fined E2 and costs, or three weeks' imprisonment Gomer Jones, collier, Trebanog, was charged with doing wilful damage, to the extent of £ 1* to the property of William Williams, landlord ot the Farmers' Arms, Trebanog, on the 31st ult. The landlord stated that the defendant was in his house, and quarrelled with some men, that result being that he turned him out. Defendant went down the road, and soon afterwards re- turned, when all was quiet, and picking up a stone he threw it through. the window of tha- inn with the remark, "I am having my re- venge," He broke a plate glass window, and several pint measures. P.C. 3.4 said that when he arrested -in tlie defendant said, "I did it for revenge, because he turned me out. The Bench imposed a fine of £ 2 or a month's imprisonment. James Winter, Upper Boat, was summoned for using obscene language on Cardiff road, Upper Boat, on the night of the 24th ult. P.C. Walter Davies proved the offence. Fined 5s allL- costs.
