Mr Jones opened the proceedings with "The Land of my Fathers," and Mr Morgan, Ponty- pridd, the conductor, created much amusement by his (lroll and witty remarks, especially one in which he gave a good description of a jour- ney from Cowbridge to Llantwit with "Sam tlio Carrier." Harris Richards); Coychurch (Mr Davies)- Mr Williams, in adjudicating, spoke of the inv portance of the phrasing of the music in hand, remarking that neither choir had acquitted them- selves as ably as they might have done, had little more attention been paid to the phrasing and wording of the piece. He considered Penuel' the best, and accordingly awarded them the prize. (Applause). Male Voice Competition, "The Crusaders" (not less than 50 in number). This was the chief feature of the day, great interest being evinced when the representatives of the parties were called forward to take "lots. The competition was very keen ,the choirs singing in the follow ing order: 1, Tonypandy Male Voice Party' (leader, Arthur A. Leek); Nantymoel (leader, John Phillips); 3, Abertillery (leader, Toøt: Stevens). Mr Thomas, in giving the adjudica- tion, said the three choirs song remarkably well in tune and expression, but warned them of the danger of individual singing. He remarked thao the tenors of the first party were of a most ex- cellent quality, but the tempo, was not exactly" correct. The solo of No. 1 party was far in ad- vance of the others, and the prayer was suBjT in a very beautiful manner. No. 2 party kepk stricter tempo, and kept well in tune, giving a- trucr interpretation than did party No. 1. No. 3 sang in good tune, but exaggerated the musi- cal expressions. The leader should have faced' the audience when he sang the recit. There was- a tendency to force upon the crescendos. The prize was awarded to Nantymoel. In the evening a concert was he-d, in whici* Madame Thomas, Llanelly; Mr Todd Jones, Treherbert, and other able artistes, appeared- Mr D. J. Williams, Dolgelly acted as accom- panist. Mr Llewellyn is to be congratulated upon the success attending his efforts. Mr Morgan made a very good conductor, and perform the duties devolving upon- the office in a highly efficient manner. — —A*.
