[DAN OLYGIAuTu T. D. IS\AC.] BERTHLNVYD-CYFARFODYDD CROESAWOL. Dydd i'w gofio yn yr eglwys Fedyddiedig yn y lie uchod oedd Hydref 16fed, sef y dydd » groesawu y Parch T. E. Williams \I.'i deulu. Yn y prydnawn eisteddodd torf luosog wrth y byrddau i gyfranogi o ffrwyth y ddeilen nad yw yn meddwi yn y Vestri cysymiedig a'r capel. Gweinyddai y gwragedd a'r merched serchog wrth y byrddau, pawb megys ar eu goreu i roddi croesawiad teilwng i'w gweinidog. Yr oedd y bara brith a'r bara ymenyn a'r te yn rhagorol. Yn yr hwyr am 6.30 cynaliwyd cyfarfod dyddorol yn y capel. Dechreuwyd trwy weddi gynhes ac effeithiol gan y Parch W. Jones, Treharris. Llywyddwyd y cyfarfod mewn modd deheuig gan Mr E. Edwards, U.H., yr hwn sydd yn aelod defnyddiol yn yr eglwys. Y cadeirydd a deimlai yn llawen wrth weled cynifer o weinidogion wedi dyfod yn nghyd— hyn yn dwyn tystiolaeth fod i Mr Williams le dwfn yn serchiadau ei frodyr yn y weinidog- aeth. Amcan galwad y brawd ydoedd cael gweinidog gwcithgar. Profodd yn weinidog da i Iesu Grist yn y Gaerwen, ac hyderai y profai y.* un modd yn Berthlwyd. Credai mai un o anghenion penaf yr eglwys Gristionogol yn y dyddiau presenol ydyw yr angen am ddyn llawn o weithgarwch a diwydrwydd, am y rheswm fod y Pab o Rufain yn gwneuthur pob ymdrech posibl i enill plant yr Ymneillduwyr. Nod uchelaf y Pab ydyw Hyncu yr eglwys a'r plant. Gobeithiai na chai Pabyddiaeth afael byth ar Gymru, neu ynte gellir ysgrifenu uwch ei pben y gair "Ichabod." Dymunai arosiad maith i'w weinidog newydd. Nid oedd yn credu mewn symud yn ami, oblegyd nid yw symudiadau mynych yn Uefaru yn dda am yr eglwys na'r gweinidog. Ni fuasai yn foddlon cael cyfarfod o'r natur hwn am ugain mlynedd o leiaf. Mr T. Phillips (diacon) a ddywedodd ei fod dros yr eglwys yn rhoddi croesawiad gwresocaf a phuraf posibl i Mr Williams a'i deulu i'w plith. Mynegodd iddynt, fel eglwys, fod yn bur bryderus am weinidog, ond pan y clywsant y brawd, syrthiasant mewn cariad ag ef yn uniongyrchol. Yr oedd pawb yn hollol un- frydol drosto, heb gymaint ag un yn ei erbyn, a'r eglwys yn bresenol mewn agwedd lewyrchus a llwyddianus. Dywedai mai nid gorchwyl rhwydd ydoedd symud dyn fel Mr Williams, oblegyd ei fod yn ddyn ag hanes anrhydeddus iddo. Llanwodd gylchoedd gwir bwysig yn ei faes gweinidogaethol diweddaf. Yr oedd yn gadeirydd y Bwrdd Ysgol, yn orchwyliwr y Gymdeithas Gyfieitbiadol, ac yn Ysgrifenydd y Gymanfa. Dyn yn llanw y cylch gwladwr- iaethol yn ogystal a'r cylch crefyddol. Credai yn gryf y bydd y brawd yn fendith anmhris- iadwy i'r lie. Taer gymhellai yr eglwys i gyd- weithio ag ef. Dyferynau sydd yn cyfansoddi y mor mawr. Cydweithgarwch y gweinidog a'r holl aelodau sy.dd yn cyfansoddi eglwys lew- yrchus a llwyddianus. Da oedd ganddo am gymeriad dilychwin Mr Williams. Melldith y pwlpud lydyw cymeriadau isel—drewdod yn ffroenau Duw. Dymunai i'n brawd lawer o wenau Duw, ac achubiaeth eneidiau. Y Parch Christmas Evans (B.) a gyfyngodd ei sylwadau yn benaf i'w ymweliad ag Ynys Mon. Dywedai mai y cyntaf a gyfarfyddodd yno ydoedd Mr Williams, ac iddo dderbyn car- edigrwydd mawr ganddo ef a'i deulu; ei fod yn barchus gan bawb, nid yn uni? gan ei bobl ei hun, ond gan yr holl enwadau; fod y wlad yn edrych i fyny amo fel dyn, fel dyn Duw. Dywedodd iddo glywed yn ystod ei arosiad yn inys Mon fod Mr Williams yn weddiwr mawr, ac felly, ni ddylai fod yn achos o syndod iddo gael dylanwad mor ddwfn ar fei thrigolion. Dymunai i'w ddyfodiad i Berthlwyd fod yn gyfnvng o adfywiad crefyddol, ac i'r undeb ffurfiwyd rhyngddo a'r eglwys fod yn undeb parhaol, heddychol, a llwyddianus. Y Parch W. D. Nicholas, Treharris (B.), a gredai, os mai yr Arglwydd anfonodd Mr Wil- liams, y buasai yn sicr o fod yn ddefnyddiol yn y lie. Anogodd hwym. i beidio sylwi ar trychau y gweinidog; fod y grefydd Gristion- ogol yn eu dysgu i edrych uwchlaw y Thai hyny. ac I sIarad yn barchus am dano yn ngblywedig- aeth y plant. Gwnaeth apel ar ieuenctyd yr evlwys i gydweithio gydag ef am y rheswm T yn galw am rym meddwi a chorff dvnion leuamc yr oes. Yr oedd llawer ° ld.°-l0Jn bod yn Berthlwyd, ond gobeithiai nad oeddynt yn myned i gael un arall yn fuan. ° f ? Jones, Nelson (B.) a ddywedai fod Mr Williams wedi gwneud aberth mawr i ddod i Berthlwyd. Nad oedd un gobaith iddo gael bod yn gadeirydd y Bwrdd Ys°-ol yma Dylanwadai Eglwys y plwyf yn Llanfabon yn ormodol. Mynegodd rhywun iddo ef fod eisieu "meistr" yn Merthlwyd. Nid oedd yn credu hyn, na byth yn hoffi termau cyffelyb. Gwell ganddo "term" Paul: "Meddyliwch am eich blaenoriaid." Anogai yr eglwys i gofio mai un yn blaenori yw y gweinidog. Nid un o'r tu ol. Dywedodd nad. arferai yr anfarwol Hughes o Maestep, fyned i'r cwrdd eglwys; ond ni fydd- ent byth yn gwneyd dim, hyd yn nod rhoddi "paen" yn y ffenestr, heb ymgynghori ag ef. Syniai yn uchel am eglwys Berthlwyd. Credai y bydd iddi ddangos y parch dyfnaf at ei gwein- idog. Dymunai bob llwyddiant iddynt. Y Parch T. Phillips, Cilfynydd, a ddywedodd fod yn hyfrydwch mawr ganddo fod yn bresenol yn nghyfarfodydd croesawol Mr Williams a'i deulu. Da ganddo am gymeriad dilychwin y brawd. Mynegai fod ambell i weindog yn colii ei gymeriad wrth newid cylch. Gofid dirfawr i lawer fuasai i gylchi Berthlwyd fod yn achos i'r brawd golli ei gymeriad fel dyn a phre- srethwr. Parch J. F. Williams, U.H., Abercynon, a anogai yr eglwys i gadw ei chydgynulliad. Nad oes dim yn digaloni pregethwr da yn fwy na chael llawer o seddau gweigion boreu Sabboth. Cymhellodd i weddio yn ddibaid drosto. Fod llwyddiant y weinidogaeth i raddau helaeth yn gorphwvs ar weddiau y saint. Mr Thomas, Treharris, a ymlawenychai yn v ffaith fod Mr Williams yn ddirwestwr selog. Credai v dvlasai gweinidog yw bod yn llwyr- ^T parclTw. Jones, Treharris, a ddywedodd fod eanddo barch calon i eglwys Berthlwyd. Ei fod wedi cael mantais I w hadnabod yn dda. Ei fod wedi cael yr anrhytledd o fod yn wein- idog ar eglwys yn Nhreharri^ am bymtheg mlynedd; yr eglwys agosaf i Berthlwyd. Fod ganddo fwy o gyfeillion yn awr nag enoed. Dymunai bob llwyddiant iddynt. Siaradwyd hefyd gan y Parch Mr Llewelyn. Nelson (M.C.). a'r Parch E. J. Hushes, Ynys- hir. Rhoddasant y ganmoliaeth uchaf i fywyd ac athrvlith Mr Williams. Galwodd v cadeir- ydd ar Mr Williams, a "wnaeth yntau siarad mewn modd deheuig ac effeithiol. Canwvd un- awdau gan Miss Miss S. A. Miles (Llinos v Llwyn), John Morgan (Eos y Twyn) a T. Wil- liams (Llew'r Berth). Y mae ein brawd yn dechreu ar waith ei wein- idogaeth gyda rhagolygon addawol am ddyfodol dysglaer i eglwys ei ofal, a'n gwir ddymuniad yw am i'r brawd gael sylweddoli el obeithion. Y mae eglwys Berthlwyd yn teimlo yn falrh ei bod wedi llwyddo i rifo vn mysc ei gweinidog-! ion un o ddvnion mwyaf dilychwin ac addawol Cvmni. Wedi gweddi daer "an Mr W. D. Nicholas, dygwyd y cyfarfod dedwydd hwn i derfyniad, gyda obaitb am i weinidogaeth ein brawd brofi yn fendithiol iawn i'r eglwys a'r gymydogaeth.

THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND TEMPERANCE…
THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND TEMPER- ANCE BENEFIT SOCIE-L i. FORMATION OF A PAROCHIAL LODGE AT PONTYPRIDD. A meeting, presided over by the Vicar (the Rev J. P. Griffiths, M.A.), was held in the Parish Room on Saturday evening last, to hear an address from Mr William Dally, auditor of the "Duffryn Lodge," Mountain Ash," on the "Objects and Advantages" of the above society, with a view of forming a branch lodge in the parish of Pontypridd. The "Duffryn Lodge" commenced life with only six members, but is now able to boast of a roll of about 570 good on the books. The society, which is duly re- gistered pursuant to the Friendly Societies' Act, has a two-fold object, viz., (1) The provision of an allowance to members during sickness or accident; (2) The payment on the death of a member (or member's wife) of a sum as burial money. Sick pay ranges from 2s to 30s per week, and sums payable at death range from L2 to £ 30, according to class and section. In the .fourth quinquennial balance-sheet, dated December 31st, 1897, the actuary reports that not only is the society absolutely solvent, but that, after making provision to meet every ex- pected claim, there is an actuarial surplus of £972. There are over 160 Parochial Lodges now working in England and Wales, having a membership of over 6,500. The society being a centralised one, its funds are common to all lodges, so that the members of the smallest lodge are as sure of their benefits as are those of the largest. The funds are the absolute property of the members of the society, and amount at the present time to over ;C27,OM, whilst over £29,000 has been paid away for sickness and death claims. The investments are made in good securities, which yield from three to five per cent. Members residing in, or removing to a locality where no lodge exists, can apply to be transferred to the Central Lodge, and pay their contributions direct to tL'* chief office. Membership is open to per- sons under 50 years of aze. Members can either join the Total Abstinence Section, or the section for Non-abstainers of Temperate Habits. The lodge meetings will be .held monthly, and there are only twelve payments per annum. The Pontypridd Parochial Lodge will be formally opened on Saturday evening next (October 21st), in the Parish Room, at 8 o'clock. Brother Dally will again be present to help generally, and to answer any questions. The society is not confined to Churchmen, but is open to all who may wish to join.
CONGREGATIONALISTS AT GROESWEN.
CONGREGATIONALISTS AT GROESWEN. The quarterly meetings of the East Glamor- gan Association iof Welsh Congregational Churches, numbering over 80, have been held fit Groeswen. A resolution was passed deploring the Trans- vaal War, the proposer (the Rev E. Richards, lonypandy) expressing the opinion that the Government had blundered. The Rev Eynon Bryncethin (statistical secretary), sub- mitted his annual report, which showed that, though there had been a strike of six months' duration in the collieries of Glamorganshire, Ithe membership-roll showed an increase of 269. The Rev J. Tawelfryn Thomas, of Groes- wen, was chosen to be chairman of the Cyfun- deb for the next year. In the afternoon the president for the year (the Rev M. C. Morris, «<0rSl ^S*rad), delivered a masterly address on 'The Church and the Culture of the Age." Wfcawr" !■—i
