" STRA Y NOTES.
STRA Y NOTES. [BY PHILO."] f The stirring addresses delivered at the 'presentation meeting on Friday lliht will, undoubtedly, create a nesire and be a spur to our youngsters to become perfect ia tho arc of swimming. Undoubtedly, the numerous readers of the Echo will regret to hear of the death i of Mr John Davies, of -the Commercial Hotel. He was well known and higidy estee.med, and in his death Fishguard has lost oue of its most popular inhabitants. Our footballer have bad a vory unsuc- eessful season so far. They were again defeated on Boxing Day at St. David's. Being a eye-witness of the last match, I had prepared some notes ou the game, but I have just been informed that there is no space at my disposal jthis week.—-[We regret our inability to publish Pliilo's regret our inability to publish Pliilo's football notes this week.] At a prayer meeting a man expressed himself LillIS Dyro oleuni i mi yn Ie: cwattodd maugu yr arian pan landiodd y French, ar gownt i fi gael tamed o fara." Whether he has had the required light, I am not in a position to say. I hope the school question has come to au end, and that the parties interested in the management will co-operate, that we may again see the schools in their usual flourishing state. Some of our school teachers have spent a very quiet Christmas, and, indeed, no wonder, when we consider that obey lie > to go without their salaries. I hear that our enterprising townsman, Mr William James, intends oil his premises. Cood start in the new year. The new year has commenced its course in fine weather. A party had been organised to caroi tho new year ill, but L am ex I rem el v- sorry to hoar that their efforts were in vain, through being interrupted by a gang of young men and women, who indulged in singing comic songs, &c., whilst 11*1 the select party rendered religious hymas. The disturbance wlnen. prevailed on new year's morning does not add anything to the credit of our town.
