HEROISM BY MR ALBERT FUR LONGl The following par i mlarsof the heroism i performed by :\i r Albert Furlong, of Eisi,guard, appeared in the Haverfordwest, Telejiri.pl, last v?eek In the early parti of lite month of February, in the year; (lui-iii, zi terrible gale on the Pem- Z;) brokeshire coast there was a vessel driven ashore on the coast near Eishguard, and two of the crew were seen to be clinging to a piece of rock separated from the main land. The life-boat was launched but the vi-'lence O: the surf was such that she was u.-eaav- Scores of men were present, but rescue was considered impossible. Albert Eur to: g— men a young fellow nineteen — made a ret-olvo that ho would swim to them with a line. The sailors endeavoured to dissuade him from his rash, purpose, and failing this rau away that they might not—to use their own words—" see him and failing this ran away that they might not—to use their own words-" see him drown before their eyes." He, however, after repeated failures, having been in the water about four hours, succeeded in legcning them. For this heroic conduct he was awarded three medals—one from the Humane Society, another from the LjfcboaL Association, and a third from the Shipwrecked Mariners' Society."
