THE ancient and celebrated WELL of ST. WINE- JL FRED is so well known to the Nobility and Gentry, who have travelled in North Wales, and has attracted the notice of so many Visitors, that little need be said of a spot which is so fully described in the pages of historians and tourists. There can be no doubt that the purity and salubrity of its Waters, have been abundantly tested, whilst there are well-authenticated facts of their having restored to health many infirm and crippled persons who have lesorted te them. The ruthless hand of timil has in a great degree dilapidated this beautiful and celebrated' relic of ancient architecture, and it is therefore highly desirable to restore it and remove the unsightly cottage buildings around it, which in no way correspond with it in style.. With a view to such restoration the inhabitants ot Holyweff have applied to the Most Noble the Marquis of Westminster, and have obtained from him a lease of the cottages in question, intending to pull them down and restore the Well to its original beauty. His Lordship has also generously granted them the waste land; adjoining the Well, at a nominal rent, whereon to erect baths for the accommodation of the public. The Provisional Committee have had plans prepared and estimates made of the outlay required for restoring the Well and erecting the proposed Baths. It is computed that It20(M. will be required for this purpose. An appeal is BOW made to the public spirit and generosity of- the nobility, gentry and i&r habitants of. the town and neighbourhood for donations to be applied exclusively to the restoration of the ancient edikwaud > providing suitable Baths for the poor,.free of change.. It is also the intention of the inhabitants to provide (ammo, dious and elegant Baths.for the use of those ladies and gentle- men who may choose to avail themselves of the wkters of St- Winefred s Wet!. It was resolved at a public meeting of the inhabitants, held at Holywell, the 15th of July, 1837, to erect these Baths by 2,000 shares of 1J. each, and if the whole be taken up, the Bath will be built handsomely and on a large scale, and the contiguous ground laid out<ornamentally. Itfis evidently the interest of the landholders, and all persons en- gaged in trade in Holywell and the neighbourhood, to promote this undertaking, as there is every raason to believe these Baths will prove as attractive as any others of great and fashionable resort. The celebrated Well'of St. Winefred may fairly com- pete with the waters of Cheltenham, Leamington, Harrowgate, Buxton, Scarborough, Tunbridge, or Beulah, for the invigora- tive and restorative qualities of its waters, whilst if quantity were to decide their respective merits, it far surpasses them ail. If scenery be the attraction, North Wales, with her stupendous mountains, trout streams, lakes and delightful vallies, will vie with any part of the united kingdom, and short excursions within a round of ten or fifteen miles will convey travellers to St. Asaph, Rhyddlan, Rhyl, Newmarket, Denbigh, Northop.. Flint, Mold. the Vale of Chryd. and other intervening spots.- where there are innumerable objects affording pleasing histori- cal reminiscences, associated with so many fine castles,- the scenes of chivalrous deeds in by-goue days. REGULATIONS. 1. That 2s. 6d. be paid at the time of subscribing, and a- farther deposit of 7s. Qd. per share, on or before the 1st of January, 1838, and the remaining 198. per share be paid when required, of which due notice will be given. 2. When the profit shall exceed 5 per cent. per annnm 011. the capital expended, the surplus shall be devoted to the further local improvements at the baths, or contiguous grounds, or in any other way likely to benefit the town, as the directors, or a public meeting may deem best. 3. As soon as 1,000 shares shall be subscribed for, a general meeting of shareholders shall be called, to elect directors, and 'and a general meeting be held each succeeding year, to examine the accounts, declare a dividend, and choose fresh directors in lieu of those who may die, disquahfy. retire, or go out of office in rotation. 4. Ten shares shall be the qualification of a director, and no person khall hold more than 50 shares. At public meetings.. holders of 5 shares to have one vote, of 10 shares two votes, of 20 shares three votes, and 30 shares or upwards, four votes. 5. If at any future public meeting of shareholders it shall be deemed adviseable to create additional shares to erect cottages suitable for visitors of the baths, in the vicinity, upon a majority of the shareholders then assembled so determining, the new shares shall be first offered to the original subscribers to the baths, in proportion to the number of shares taken by them at the formation of the company, but the restriction of 5 per cent. per annum dividend shall not apply to such new shares, but the amount of such dividend, after the examination of the accounts, shall be divided by the votes of the majority of the accounts, shall be divided by the votes of the majority of shareholders present, according to rule fourth. Application for shares, to be made to Mr. EOISBtRY, and Mr. CROFT, Holywell- and H. Lucas, Esq., Drury-lane, Liverpool. N.B.—A great number of shares have been already taken. According to the calculate made in 1731, it appears that r o was. then found to be eaehttad:e<J lie quantity of water cast up- cui per minute.
