Tonypandy. On Thursday evening, the 11th inst., a grand performance of Snow-White and the Seven Dwarfs was given at Siloh Welsh. Wesleyan Chapel by the Seion Children's Choir Penygraig, under the «onductorship of Mr. Evan Rowland Jones. The chairman for the evening was J Richards, M.B.G., Tonypandy, and the principal characters in the oper- etta were: </ Princess Snow White," Miss A. M. Jenkins; "Queen, Miss Iris M. gowWs; Prince," Mr. W. J Tfiomas, ^arl, Mr. John Edwards; "Fairy Ar- jfe!iIiss Minnie Owen "Fairy Daffo- dil, MKS C. S. The spoken part in some places might have been more thor- oughly learnt, and thus secure a better iuiish to her performance. Miss Iris Rowlands as the Queen, was a decided success-. She displayed much dramatic ability, and her impersonation of the character, both in song and dialogue, was very effective. Miss Rowlands has a good contralto voice, and her phrasing and oxpression were very praiseworthy. She was especially good in "I am a Sovereign lady," and in the scene where she visited « Snow White in the Dwarf retre^. Mr. John Edwards, as Carl," xhe Huntsman," was in his usual good form. He sang and acted well, and made the most of his part in. every way. There was a tendency occasionally "towards at- tempting too much, and so a little of the effect, was lost. Mr. Wm. J. The three little girls taking the parts of the fairies were extremely good, and went through the small parts allotted to them very credit- ably. They showed careful teaching and thorough training in their parte. The seven dwarfs were also a distinct success and were great favourites with the audi- ence, their quaint costumes and general make-up being extremely effective. They were probably the most popular part of the choir, and their actions and antics caused much amusement. The choir had been well trained by the conductor, Mr. E. R. Jones, and their success in the concert reflects much credit upon his ability, as a leader of children's choirs. The words and music in most of the choruses were thoroughly known by all the children, and the singing was of a Ugh standard throughout. In one or two parts the sopranos and altos did not keep very well together, but apart from this no fault could be found with the chil- dren. The accompanist also acquitted himself creditably and gave every satis- faction. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded to the artistes, choir, and chair- man, and the singing of the Welsh National Anthem brought the concert to a close. (W) A grand social was held at the Church Hall, Tonypandy, on Thursday, the 11th inst., m connection with the local branch or the National Union of Shop Assistants. S.A. Self-Denial Week.
S.A. Self-Denial Week. Story of a Wonderful Achievement That indomitable leader of men, General William Booth, is again appeal- ing for the wherewithal to carry on the work of the great Salvation Army. The annaul Self-Denial Week will soon be with us, and collectors towards it are already at work in our midst. I By all accounts, the work of this great organisation goes on anace. Moved largely, no doubt, by the example of their aged General, his followers seem to be reaching their hands out in every direction, and are every year giving fresh and more convincing proofs of the value of their work and ita claim upon the nation for support. We understand that there is a specially urgent call this year for the exercise of the self-denying spirit, inasmuch as General Booth has embarked upon several daring projects for the improvement of the condition of mankind, both at home and abroad. Under the latter heading may be mentioned, plans for the more extensive evangelisation of the native races of South Africa; also much has been done for the transport of the deserving poor from the Old Land to Canada and elsewhere. The work of the Army in Great Britain I and Ireland needs no recommendation from us and we trust that the local branch will be encouraged by a substan- tial increase upon their previous efforts. The resident Officer Adjutant Roberts, will be glad to supply further information respecting the Army's world-wide opera- tions. Donations in aid of the same may be handed to him or to any of the mem- bers. Cheque and Money Orders should bo crossed and made payable to Williarn Booth." AN ATTRACTIVE MINING INVESTMENT.
AN ATTRACTIVE MINING INVESTMENT. Among the Mexican undertakings which are attracting public interest to-day, the Tominil (Mexican) Mining Co., Ltd., ia very prominent. This company, formed some very prominent. This company, formed some two years ago, has done much valuable work, and a large tonnage of ore is de- veloped. An issue of 50,000 new Preference shares was recently underwritten subject to inepectioa of the property by the underwriter's engineer, whose report was so favourable that the whole iseue wes immediately placed at par. The success of the company appears to I be assured by this issue, and it is stated that a strong demand for the Ordinary shares has been created. The price of the JE1 fully-paid eharee is about 12s., and it is pointed out, in view of recent developments, that these shares might easily reach par in the near future. New machinery is being installed, a seventy- five ton mill and cyanide plant erected, and transport arrangements are being perfected to deal with a large output. The company should, therefore, be in a position to pay dividends before long. The past history of the mine shews that a substantial revenue may be expected from shipping the rich pro direct to the smelters, and as the workings are now ap- proaching the richest part of the mine im- portant developments may be expected I almost immediately. On ore tested by the Hendryx process the amount 6aved is equal to 95 per cent, gold and 97 per cent, silver, which is much better than anticipated. )
