Maesteg. Musical Success.At the recent exami- nation held under the Tonic Sol-far Col- lege, the following were scccessful — Third Stage Harmony, Samuel Jones, Cymmer: Third Stage, Staff Notation, Evan H. LJoyd, Maesteg; D. J. Morris, Hopkin Thomas and D. J. Davies, all of Nantyffyllon; John Johns, Bettws; W. T. Llewellyn, Maesteg Matriculation Certificate Examination. Griffith Evans, Maesteg, and Elia," Elias, Blaengwynfi; Advanced Certificate, Evan H. Lloyd. The latter, who is only 19 years of age, is the pupil of Mr. Samuel Davies, and his success reflects the highest credit on teacher and pupil alike. Obituary.—We regret to announce the death of Mr. William Hogg, of the Turber- ville Arms, Maesteg, which took place on 11 Saturday last, the result of an unfortu- nate accident. Social.—Under the auspices of the young people of Bethel Chapel, a very interesting tea was held in the new Hall on Wednesday of last week for the pur- pose of welcoming the return of Mr. Thomas Smith, who had been in Scotland for the past fifteen months. After tea, a meeting was held, presided over by Mr. George Brace, who gave an interesting address as to the merits of Mr. Smith; followed by Mr. Hector Jenkins and Mr. Thomas Lloyd. Mr. Smith responded. The catering arrangements were in the I hands of Messrs. G. Ferrier and Son, and were under the able management of Miss A. L. Harry. 1 Coiieert.-Oii Thursday of last week, a very successful concert was held at Bethel Chapel, Maesteg, under the auspices of the Sunday School. Mr. Herbert Jenkins presided over a crowded audience. Town Hall Theatre.—Messrs. Poole have this week an excellent variety show twice nightly, and the innovation has been drawing crowded houses. The animated pictures are of the best, and the artistes include Madame.
