Shots for Goal. Treherbert Ex-Schoolboys have a record which is most worthy of note. In the first place, they have not been defeated in a single League match this season. Altogether, 128 points have been scored for them, whilst only 24 points have been registered against them. They have only one more League match to play. A challenge has been accepted by Pontypridd All Blacks Reserves to play Treherbert Ex-Schoolboys for medals. The Treherbert Northern Union team did not play a match on Saturday. Four League points were at stake in a match between Blaenrhondda A.F.C. and Fernd'^e Tutor Juniors which was played on Thursday last. Blaenrhondda emerged victors by a goal to love. The Blaenrhondda Soccer Team seems to be doing well. They occupy the second position in the Third Division of the 1 South Wales League. Five players of Treherbert Athletics were included in the team which repre- sented the Rhondda District against the Pontypridd District in the inter-League match played at Trebanog on Monday. Of those players, R. Morgan was honoured with the position of captain of the Rhondda fifteen. It is rumoured that the Welsh Foot- ball Union have purchased the Treherbert Football Grounds outright. If that is so, then it. is certain that an Amateur Rugby team will be formed at Treherbert for next season. Treherbert United A.F.C. fielded a, very strong team against Rstrad Lads in the match which was played at Treherbert on Saturday last. The United won com fortably by 3 goals to nil. Ton did very well in their mid-week fixtures in the South and West of Elig land. Weymouth were defeated by 5 goals to 1. This is a creditable perform- ance when it is taken into consideration that Weymouth called in the services of some players from the district. The boys drew with Bath City. Farrant, the erstwhile Ton forward, now dons the jersey of the men from the city of spires. On Saturday, the Reds met their old rivals, Mardy, in a friendly game. The score read 2 goals each. The cupholders djid not field their strongest team. Russell was missed from the ranks, especially when the penalty came for Ton, which Hugh Williams failed to negotiate. Joe Edwards again demonstrated his ability to hold his own in the half-back line. What is the reason the committee d.o not give the lad a chance? They should certainly encourage talent. Fyfe, the Ton skipper, returned again to the fold on Saturday, and played a dashing game on the right wing. He scored a lovely goal, which Williams, the home custodian, never saw.

Treomkji encountered Resolven, a young orgamsatisas. who intend to apply for ad- mission to the Glamorgan League next seanspD, on the Treorchy Athletic Grounds on Saturday. Treorchy were minus Will Morgantheir captain, and Jim Poison, Reso-lv(qt being fully represented. Mr. B. Lewita, I-P-ontypridd, referee'd. Resolves kicked off. Jack Schofield replied for Treorchy, and movements quickened somewhat despite the deplor- able cojadition of the field. An attempt to "re by Treorchy a minute later became a dead failure owing to a Resolven ite kicking over. Treorchy forwards infringed ia a. subsequent scrum, and' Resol^ea jwere led out of danger by being awarded a free." The homesters bene- fited through a series of scrummages, which led to a brilliant passing bout end- ing in Spiller, left wing for Treorchy, erossrug the visitors' line with a magni- ficent try, which Daly James failed to convert. Dick Wi-a restarted for Treorchy, and Spiller, who was last to receive in a pass- ing movement, smartly crossed with an- other unoomrertec1 try. Just before time was called, Dai (Bach) Jones, who had «nly resumed his position after his recent indisposition, the previous Monday, came in contact with a. Resolven player, and was soon seen bleeding from the nose and mouth. He had to quit the field and be specially- attended to. DINAS _6pte., TREORCHY OLD BOYS 0. This League match was played at Dinas On Saturday, when Treorchy for the first time this season tasted the essence of defeat. Treorchy were weakly repre- sented, while four of Dinas premiers re- placed four of the Old Boys' competition team. Treorchy introduced a commend- able pressure-once, but when Dinas scored their second try the visitors became despondent, and the superiority of the homesters rendered them indifferent. RHONDDA DISTRICT 3pts., PONTY- PRIDD DISTRICT 0. This inter-League match in collection with, the Rhondda and District Old Bovs' League was played at Trebanog, before a good crowd, on Monday last. The pre- vious match of this season which was played between these two districts at Treherbert was won by the Rhondda team. Mr. Will Thomas, Pontypridd, was in charge of the game. Most of the attack was made by the "ontypridd team. The Ponty. backs were ^uabie to break through the Rhondda defence, W. Jones, full-back (Treorchy), being a tower of strength to his side. George Evans, centre (Treorchy), initiated a smart dribble near the halfway line, and eventually J. H. Jones, wing (Dinas), down and scored & try for the J^uondda in the corner. W. Jones failed ^°'avert- The Rhondda team was unlucky in not scoring .on several occasions in second half of tho game, for they should have easily by more than three points. A he Pontypridd defence was, neverthe- less, very sound, and their custodian, Pritchard (Trebanog), was at all times brilliant. TREHERBERT. EX-SCHOOLBOYS 5pts., MERLIN STARS 0. The return League match between the above teams was played at Pontypridd on Saturday. Treherbert's undefeated League record was still at stake, but a. victory on Saturday would ensure for them the winning of the medals given in the Second Division of the Old Boys' League. Immediately after the start, the Ex- Schoolboys pressed hotly. With the aid of the strong wind which was blowing, they kept up a continuous attack, but the home defence was not to be easily beaten. After a great struggle, the reward came at last for the visitors. The Treherbert backs started passing, but after a p-ass had been dropped, the ball was dribbled cleverly over the Merlin line. W. E. Pearce (leader of E'x-School- boys' pack) dived on to the ball at the right moment and scored a beautiful try in the corner. With a magnificent kick, W. H. Colwill (Tl.'eherbert's custodiaU:) converted. The visitors were compelled to play hard in order to repel their oppo- nents in the second moiety. Their defence, however, was equal to the attack, which seemed to come from the Ponty- pridd team in lumps. Colwill was bril- liant in tackling,, and stopping the home forward rushes. T. Davies, Percy Ray- iiixmd, Billy Williams. Tom James, and Will E. JPearce played exceedingly well for Treherbert. PENTYRCH opts.. TREHERBERT ATHLETICS 3. Treherbert visited Pentyrch on Satur- day. Unfortunately, the visitors had to make the journey without W. Watts (inside half) and four forwards. They managed, however, to take the field with thirteen players, the Treherbert pack consisting of only six forwards through- out the game. In comparison with their burly opponents, the Athletics seemed mere schoolboys. With the advantage of the wind in their favour, Treherbert were aggressive throughout the initial half. The Pentyrch forwards controlled the ball in every scrum, but the home halves were always overwhelmed before they became danger- ous. The six Athletics' forwards played Sa-llantly, and after a. sweeping rush, Adams picked up and crossed, but he rumbled in doing so. From the very next scrum, however, the visiting forwards heeled out the ball. A very neat and Pretty bout of passing followed, in which A, Lewis and J. Griffiths (halves), R. =-

ASSOCIATION. TREHERBERT UNITED 3gfs., YSTRAD LADS 0. Played at Treherbert on Saturday. Treherbert fielded S. W. Bull at back, but they were minus B. J. Williams at half. Ystrad were at full strength. Treherbert started with the wind behind them. Ystrad were immediately penned in their own half, and after a few minutes' pressure, Jick (of Ystrad) put through his own goal. Treherbert were continually bombarding the Ystrad goal, and were awarded numerous corner kicks, from one of which G. Watkins (centre forward) scored the second goal for the homesters. The teams crossed ■frith Treherbert- two goals up. The wind had abated somewhat when the teams resumed play. Ystrad made great efforts to penetrate the home defence, but were frustrated by the bril- liant play of Mainwaring, Bull, and Paddick. Then Treherbert broke away, and Howard Jones scored with a shot which was fumbled bv the visiting cus- todian. There was no further score. For Treherbert. Mainwaring was mag- nificent, whilst Bull and Ponnell were also worthy of note. T. B. Lewis (cap- tain of Ystrad) was the star of the visitors. PORTH INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL 2gls, RHONDDA P.T.'S 1. -=> These rivals met on Saturday on the School Grounds for the third time this season. Great interest was taken in the match, because the previous two games had resulted in a win for each team. The School kicked off and play was carried to the Teachers' territory. Abel Jones and John Williams saved for the P.T.'s, and eventually it was the turn of the School to, defend. Dick Rees, the goalie, repeatedly, saved for the School. After about ten minutes' play, the Teachers were awarded a free kick close in, and subsequently John Williams net- ted a fine goal. Play became very fast, each custodian having to save often. T. Llewellyn scored for the P.T.'s, but the point was disallowed. Dick Rees saved brilliantly from a shot by Jos. Williams, and a moment later he saved another from a penalty kick which was awarded the Teachers, and taken by Jack Wil- liams. The game was hotly contested after the interval. The School broke away after repeated efforts, and Harry Davies scored the equaliser. Then the Teachers bom- barded their opponents' goal, but, thanks to the excellent display of Dick Rees in goal, no score was registered. After a brief attack, the leading goal was scored for the School bv Wallace Diavies. The P.T.'s struggled hard to equalise the score, but time was called without any •further score. Dick Rees and Wallace Davies were the pick of the School eleven, whilst Tom Jones, Jack Williams and Abel Jones were the best of the Pupil Teachers. CWMPARC & TREORCHY UNITED I 4gls., CARDIFF CITY 2. This match was for South Wales League points, but a bitterly cold north wind and sharp showers of hail considerably affected the gate. George Jones stood down for the homesters, but Cardiff were at full strength. Cwmparc were the first to attack, smart footwork taking Nash and Milford by surprise, and Hayman scored in the first minute. The United made several strong attacks after this, but Nash especially 1 played a resolute game, and Simmonds was not extended until Dicky Jones, after clever inter-passing with Jack Evans, got through with a heauty." Boon made a snlendid indi- vidual run for Cardiff and reduced Park's lead. In the second half, the homesters showed pronounced superiority, and were almost always attacking, but Simmonds, Nash and Milford made a fine defensive trio. Hayman netted. easily after good work by Thoman, and Peake scored from a penalty. Almost on the call of time, T. Evans scored a good goal for Cardiff. LLWYNYPIA -CRESCENTS 3gls., TON- YREFAIL 3. This match was played upon the Part- ridge Grounds last Saturday. It was the I second round of the, Barnes O'Hare Charity Cup. and there was a very fair crowd present at the kick-off. Llwynypia I started against the wind, which was very much to the visitors' advantage. Tonvr- efail soon forced a corner, which Wil- liams headed in beautifully. The visitors, upon resiuming, soon pressed and were awarded a. free kick just outside the penalty area. B. Green scored the second goal, thus leaving the Crescents two goals behind. The attack was soon taken up again by. Tonyrefail, and were awarded a, penalty, and Spear, the captain, notched their third goal. After Tialf-time, Llwynypia had some leeway to make up, and they went at it with no delay, showing some of their fine form. They soon outclassed the visitors, and F. Davies scored a fine goal, giving the Tonvrefail goalkeeper no chance what- ever. They again attacked their oppo- nents' goal, and Crump put the ball through. From the kick-off, Llwynypia pressed, find Old scored the third goal. The three goals were scored in eight minutes. The game ended in a draw. LLWYNYPIA RES. 2gls., MARDY 0. The Reserves journeyed to Mardy on Saturday last to play a League match with the top of the League. HWYlYla played one reserve, giving a new man a trial. About ten minutes from the start, Bert Lewis (captain) scored a beautiful goal from half-way up the field, giving the Mardy custodian no opportunity at stopping. After lemons, the Reserves soon took up the attack, but no goals were scored until within ten minutes of time, when some good passing by the forwards resulted in the second goal. Llwynypia, being now the runners-up for the League, meet Wattstown (the pre- sent champions) next Saturday. Some good play and a. keen fight will be wit- nessed. PENTRE THURSDAYS JUNIORS 3gls.. PORTH THURSDAYS JUNIORS 0. This match was played at Porth on Thursday last. The visitors kicked off with the" wind and soon kept the home- sters on the defensive, and W. Davies all but scored, the home goalie saving in fine style, but B. Richards, rushing up, scored the visitors' first goal. The visitors still kept up the attack, and from a fine for- ward rush Lewis notched another goal. Play then remained more even until- alf- time. The second half opened in favour of the homesters, but the visitors' defence proved sound. A free kick was awarded the Porth team, but Williams failed to score. The Pentre forwards got going again, but shot wide. A. Tiffin scored the Pentre team's third and last goal. The pick of the home team were Evans, Rosser, Williams and Jones, and for the visitors Tom Jones, Davies, Richards and Dale played a good game. To the Editor of the Rhondda Leader. Pitman (right centre), and J. Lewis (right wing) participated. The latter took the final pass and scored a capital try in the corner. Salisbury failed to conyert. After half-time, Treherbert had to defend most strenuously. The wind was very tiring, and the great weight of the opposing side was beggining to take effect. The smaller but faster and cleverer Treherbert backs were able to break up their opponents' tame attack with great ease." The forward rushes of Pentyrch were most to be feared. A lengthy kick was misfielded by the Tre- herbert full-back, and the home right centre touched down, thus scoring a lucky try behind the posts for Pentyrch. The kick at goal succeeded. FERN D ALE ROVERS 15nts., MER- THYR JUNIORS 0. These teams met in a League match on the Darran Grounds. Ferndale, on Satur- day last, both sides suffering from absentees. The visitors only brought over seven of their regular players, but were ably substituted by many old Ferndale players, while the Rovers were minus the services of Will Harland, the ex-Ponty- pridd forward. Ferndale won the toss, and after some passing by. the backs, W. John opened the scoring in the far corner. D. R. Evans failed with the kick. The Rovers' 1 forwards were continually attacking, but the Juniors put up a good defence. In the second half, the Rovers, with the wind in their favour, went away with a rush. and Jim Davies picking up in the loose, scored a magnificent try with about three of the Merthyr boys clinging to him. W. John, from a difficult angle, failed with the kick. The home forwards, led by Gwilym Evans and Jim Price, brought off another fine dribble, which took play to Merthyr quarters, and Gwilym Evans picikn- up, scored another try, but the kick at goal failed. The Merthyr forwards went away with a bang and were starting to press, but could not keep it up. Buller Jones initiated a mag- nificent passing movement, in which Pierce scored. Buller Jones again re- ceiving from his forwards, started an- other passing movement, and D. Davies (Coedwr) crossed over with a try. The goal kick went astrav. FERNDALE ROVERS 5pts., ABER- CYNON 0. The Rovers were away on Monday to Aberoynon, and were engaged in the first round for the knock-out comnetition, and ran out easy victors. Buller Jones and Billy Davies had most to do with the scoring. Will Harland D. R. Evans and Fred Davies were great amongst the for- wards.

Norris combined well with his forwards and played with improved vigour upon his recent displays. He scored three goals, but for some reason known only to the knight of the whistle, he got one. | The popular and enthusiastic secretary of the Reds, Mr. W. E. Chillington, is to be complimented on his efforts in connec- tion with the welfare of his pets. He has entered into arrangements with Northampton and West Ham, with a view of getting these teams to visit the Rhondda. Northampton, in all probability, may be the opponents' of the cupholders on Saturday next. What has the Rhondda done to Mer- thyr Town? They talk about the cup-tie, and then couple the words u fair play ) to both sides. The Western League are opening their eyes to the great possibilities in South Wales, and are holding conferences with the Welsh clubs, whom a few years ago they discarded. Advance, Soccer!! W. Haines. the Dinae captain, is once more in top form, and with J. H. Jones, the inter-League wing, make a pair of smart wings. A. Mitchell, the Dinas Stars forward, is without doubt one of the best forwards in the League. Dinas has this season broken three teams' records. The Dinas football team were the first to beat Treorchy Old Boys this season. The deed was done last Saturday in a Rhondda Old Boys' League match, when Dinas scored six points to Treorchy's nil. It is pleasing to note that Daly James. Treorchy premiers' full-back, is selected reserve full-back for the County. Wynd- ham Lewis (Freddie Welsh's former trainer) has also been selected as reserve forward, and Jack Lewis as reserve three- quarter. Will Morgan, Treorchv's leader-forward, has been selected to play in the next County match. Jim Poison has long been unable to turn out for Treorchy, owing to illness, and his absence is keenly felt at each match. Ernie Goode, Cwmnarc's clever full- back, is now undergoing treatment for a dislocated knee at Nottingham Infirmary. Cwmparc and Treorchy United have a splendid South Wales League record, having played 10 matches and scored 18 points out of a possible 20. They have an unbeaten League record.
