Notes and News. A NONCONFORMIST Conference on Dis- establishment will be held at Cardiff next Thursday. MR. WILLIAM JONES, M.P., and Sir Alfred Thomas, M.P., were present at the Cardiff Musical Festival last week. THE great brass band contest was held at the Crystal Palace last Saturday. lOver 140 bands competed, and they were listened to by 65,000 persons. TWELVE Welsh bands represented Wales at the Crystal Palace Eisteddfod, but only Caerphilly secured a prize, which was the Consolation Cup. THE Kirkdale division of Liverpool re- turned a Conservative member last Friday, with a majority of 670. At the General Election the Conservative majority was 592. LAND at Llandrindod is somewhat dear. Last week, some 17 acres of vacant land, near the town, were sold at over Y,550 per acre. MANCHESTER is up in arms because a brewer is to be its Lord Mayor next year. London has elected a brewer for the honour without a single temperance protest. A LIVERPOOL Irish barrister, named Mad- den, has announced his intention of starting a Welsh Nationalist Party on independent lines. The project is a mad'un," too. ALL that is needed now to make this Liverpool nationalist movement a success is a strong Parliamentary fund. The promoters will find the neccessary candidates, formulate a policy, and other minor matters, but the y Welsh will have to supply the money. THE British Weekly succeeded in ruining the Liberal Party at the time of the Boer War'; it defeated the Progressive Party at the last London County Council election. It now tries to destroy Wales's chances for Dis- establishment. Last week it contained a scathing article on Mr. Lloyd-George, and advocated Nonconformists to run independ- ent candidates at the next election. A foolish advice, in truth. SPEAKING at Llangefni, on Friday last, Mr. Ellis J. Griffith, M.P., said that on the Dis- establishment question in Parliament, his was a voice in the wilderness, so far as the Welsh representatives were concerned. He hoped that Anglesey would take the lead in insisting upon the recognition of the claims of Wales. But will Mr. Griffith lead Angle- sey ? THE Rev. J. M. Gibbon, Stamford Hill, feels that he is being boycotted by the new Theology section of the Congregational body. He was asked recently by the Anerley Church to cancel a lecture that he was to deliver during this session. MR. G. K. CHESTERTON, the famous writer, commenting on the Manchester crusade against the brewer Lord Mayor, says I do not particularly like the beer-lords. At least, I like the beer well enough, but I am not fond of the lords in any sense of that word." EVERY concert in South Wales at the pre- sent time is advertised as the treat of the season." MR. HARRY EVANS, the well-known Liver- pool musician, was in the railway collision at Newport. Fortunately Mr. Evans escaped with a shaking.
