Notes and News. Wales has responded nobly to the call of her political leader, and Mr. Lloyd George is justly proud of the results. It is rumoured that should Mr. Asquith be called to form a Cabinet by the King, that the first question he will tackle will be, the Lords' veto. Two or three Welsh members are spoken of as likely candidates for prominent posts within the next Cabinet. At last, Wales is receiving her share in the government of the Empire. THE RIGHT RON D. LLOYD GEORGE, The Hero of a Nation." Mr. Lloyd George's victory at Carnarvon was hailed with delight by Welshmen, of all shades of political opinions, in London, on Monday last. And the substantial majority secured by him proves him to be the idol of the people whom he has represented so fear- lessly at Westminster. The last Tory Cabinet was ruled by Scots- men, and the recent Liberal Cabinet was controlled by Welshmen, and it looks as if the next Cabinet will be dominated by Irish- men. Surely a triumph for the Celts The report of the disturbances at Carnar- von on election day were grossly exaggerated in the Tory press. The fact is that the whole affair was a humorous holiday fete Mr. Lloyd Carter, a Carnarvon solicitor, was particularly bitter against the candida- ture of Mr. Lloyd George. He circulated a very unpolite letter, denouncing the Chan- cellor, a day or two before the election took place. There is a goodly number of Roman Catholics in Wrexham, and they voted almost solidly for Mr. Gore, the successful Tory. One of the most notable election victories was that of Mr. D. A. Thomas, at Cardiff. D A." had the united opposition of the brewers and licensed victuallers, the parsons and all Churchmen, and 85 per cent. of the Roman Catholics. Despite this fact, he won with over a thousand majority. In the present election the Conservatives have re-captured about half of the seats that were captured by the Liberals from the Tories in 1906. At that extraordinary con- test the Liberals' net gain of seats amounted to over 220, and it is reckoned that the net Conservative gain in the present election will be about 110. Mr. Edgar Jones, the new M.P. for Merthyr Boroughs, is a most promising speaker. Much will be heard of him in the near future. Mr. H. Percival Williams, of Rhyl, has been appointed Registrar of the Merthyr County Court. The post is worth Y,1,300 a year. Few people in Wales thought that Sir Alfred Thomas would win so handsomely. A majority of 8,994 is wonderful. They have a sound knowledge of politics in Glamorgan- shire. The only undefeated first class Welsh Rugby team this season is Newport. The Newport players would have easily beaten the English side that beat Wales at Twicken- ham. It is more than likely that Mr. Lloyd George will visit America this coming summer, having received a very pressing invitation from the Welshmen in that country to do so. There is no doubt that the real Prince of Wales will have a great reception in the land of the Stars and Stripes.
