Although there has been serious depression in trade throughout the country during the past year, the Directors are very glad to be able to place before the Shareholders, accounts showing the most gratifying increase, both in the income and in the savings, beyond those recorded in the operations of the previous year. Seven and eight years ngo respectively, the income and assets of the Compvny reached, f >r the first time, the sum of One Million Pounds. This includes £ 318,882 17s. 10i income in the Ordinary Branch, which is £ 30 624 10s lOd greiter than the previous year. The number of Policies issued during the year in this Branch was 14 114, assuring the sum of = £ 1,219,690 Os. 01., and producing a New Annual Premium Income of £ 51,405 3s. 8d. PREMIUMS (DECEMBER, 1908). The new Policies issued during the year number 1.298.842, and the Premium Income on the Policies in force on the Company's books now amounts to Y,1,854,143 9". 3d. CLAIMS. The Company has paid 83 856 Life Claims, Grants and Matured Endowments during the year, amounting with Bonuses, to e607,072 8s. 3d., which addod to the sums previously piid in claims since the establishment of the Company, make a total of £ 6,398.999 14s. 2d.
