Welsh Liberalism. NATIONAL COUNCIL MEETING AT LLANDUDNO. The annual meeting of the Welsh National Liberal Council was held in the Town Hall, Llan- dudno, on Tuesday afternoon. The Chairman, the Right Hon. Lord St. David's, presided over a good attendance, including; Mr. Edward Thomas, J.P., Cardiff; Messrs. Charles E. Breese, Portmadoc, Treasurer; Walter H. Hughes, Pontypool, Secretary Richard Jones, J.P.. TaJysarn Alderman Robert Roberts, J.P., and J. J. Marks, M.A., Arvon; D. E. Roberts and E. A. Hughes. Flint; Boaz Jones, Denbigh Boroughs; Cyril Jones, Lewis Hughes, J.P., WiUiam Edwards, Hugh Thomas, John Wil- liams, and Robert Grimth, Anglesey William George, Carnarvon Boroughs 0. Isgoed Jones, E. Davies Jones, and H. E. Pritchard, West Denbighshire; Ellis Davies. M.P., and others. The Treasurer presented a report showing that there was a balance in hand of /290. In the course of the Secretary's report it was stated that the question of Land Values had been taken up by the Council, and much mis- sionary work had been done in that direction. With regard to the promise of the Prime Minis- ter that Disestablishment should be considered as soon as the Budget had been disposed of, a special campaign had been pursued in favour of that Measure. The results of the election had been very satisfactory, although the loss of Sir Francis Edwards and Mr. Clement Edwards was much regretted. (Hear, hear.) It was, however, confidently hoped that the seats in question would be re-captured at the next at- tempt. (Hear, hear.) The attention oi the Government was being brought to the injustice to Wales as regards the grants for buildings and maintenance of the Welsh colleges. In conclusion, the Secretary urged that in view of an early General Election, they should set to work in order that they might still further improve their position. (Hear, hear.) Both reports were unanimously adopted, and glowing tributes were paid both to the Treasurer and the Secretary. The Right Hon. David Lloyd George, M.P., was re-elected President. Mr. William Brace, M.P., having now joined the Labour Party, and expressed the wish that he might not be re- elected Vice-President, Mr. Edward Thomas, J.P., of Cardiff, was elected to that position. The Chairman. Treasurer, and Secretary were all re-elected. The Executive Committee included Miss Gee, Mr. J. W. Summers, M.P., and Mrs. Summers, Sir J. Herbert Roberts, M.P., Messrs. Robert Roberts, Llandudno D. S. Davies, Denbigh; J. R. Hughes, Carnarvon; W. G. Dodd, Llan- gollen; J. Herbert Lewis, M.P., Ellis Davies, M.P., Ellis Jones Griffith, M.P., Dr. W. E. Parry, and Dr. E. V. Arnold. Mr. William Edwards, Anglesey, moved a strong resolution bearing on the land question, which he reminded the meeting was still in abeyance. Mr. Ellis Davies, M.P., repudiated the sug- gestion that the Welsh party were to blame for that fact. In some cases bills had been thrown out, and in others the Welsh party had been un- able to secure the support of the Government. Mr. William George proposed an amendment urging the Welsh Members to give the matter their special attention, and it was unanimously adopted. Mr. William George further proposed a re- solution pledging the Council to relax no effort in the coming general election, and congratu- lating all who had worked so hard in the past conflict. This was carried. The Rev. David Davies declared that the Welsh party in the House of Commons was lack- ing in backbone, and that they were exhausting the patience of Nonconformists. The Welsh members should take a leaf out of the book of the Irish party, and proc'aim their independ- ence. (Dissent.) A vote of thanks to the Chairman conctuded the proceedings.

A day or two ago, the prisoner gave hunseli up to the Charley police in Lancashire, and made a clean breast Off the charge. Evidence was given by Mr. W. R. Edwards, Mrs. Ellen Roberts (Tanyffordd, MaeTiau!), and P.O. Davies. Prisoner was then charged, and pleaded iguilty. He expressed his sorrow, and added that he had suffered a lot through comjnittmc the act. He had been without work, and if he could have found sometihing to do, he would have repaid the money. He had been going from one place to another starving. He had been without food since the previous Saturdtay, and that was his reason for giving himself up to the Chorley pohce, in order that he might face the consequences, and try and make a new start in Me. Mr. W. R. Edwards said that the prisoner was quite respectable, and worked as a coachman to the vicar of Caerihun before he employed ham. He did not wish to press the change. The Chairman, addressing the prisoner, said it was a most serious offence, amd people like Mr. Edwards were entirely in the hands of thedr servants, who were authorised to collect mone'v. They, however, were disposed to be lenient with him, alter what Mr. Edwards had said, and although they could impose a sentence of six months imprisonment, they had decided to com- mit him to prison for one month's hard labour.

Conway Horse Show. RECORD NUMBER OF JUMPERS. The prospects of the forthcoming exhibition of horses on the Morfa, promoted by the Conway Horse Show Society on Easter Monday, are ex- ceedingiy rosy, and it promises to be one of the finest of its kind ever held in North Wales. The jumping classes generally draw large crowds of people, and on this occasion, the energetic Secre- tary, Mr. T. 0. Morgan, has been successful in securing the pick of the North of England to enter the competition. At the time of going to Press, there are ten jumpers, and amongst these will be the noted international winner, Stanight," the veteran Rufus," and other well-known horses from Chester, Machynlleth, Anglesey, &c. This will undoubtedly be the feature of the show from a spectacular point of view. There are also exceptionally strong lasses in the Light Horse section, some interna- tional winners from the Higher Trap Stud, Padi- ham, Lancashire, from which place horses such I as Higher Trap Echo and Highertrap Mona," both of them extensive winners, will be exhibited. Other well-known exhibitors in- clude the Hon. Mrs. Ward, Messrs. J. Jones & Son, Dinarth Hall Miss Knott, Mr. Bond, Whitby; Mr. Tunnicline, and others. 'Queen Gobang," Pouiton's Sensation," Laurina," and other wen-known hackneys have been en- tered. Each of the classes average from eight to eighteen entries. The heavy horse section is not up to the aver- age, but the show of stallions will be exceed- ingly good. There are ten hackney stallions, and six shire stations. Although the heavy classes are not so well ailed, the name of the entry is a proof ot quality being exhibited. En- tries were stil) coming in as we went to Press. Given fine weather, the Show will undoubtedly be a record one, both in respect to the quality ol the exhibits and financially. The arrange- ments are well in hand, and Easter Monday pro- mises to turn out a record for Horse Shows m North Wales, especially so with the jumping classes. for the number of entries exceed all expectations.
