--._---------THE HOLIDAY PROGRAMME
THE HOLIDAY PROGRAMME WHERE TO GO. WHAT TO SEE. A RECORD PROGRAMME. The programme of amusements for August Bank Holiday waek is an exceedangily lengthy one, embracing entertainments of every de- scription, indoor and outdoor. In no previous season have, the niuniber of entertainments been so great, or of such merit as in the present, and it is earnestly to be hoped that that fickle jade, the weather, will for the last bank holiday of the summlefr turn a smiling face on those on pleasure bent. Fine weather only is necessary to make the holiday a thorough success, for advance- bookings have been very heavy this year, and the town will, when the last train has arrived to-night, be exceptionally full, by reason of the many who, owing to the unfavourable weather of June and early July especially, had postponed their holidays to a. later date. THE PAVILION CONCERTS. Dealing first of all with indoor attractions the Pier Company's concerts claim, attention. The orchestra, the finest at any health reisiort in the Kingdom, conducted by Mr Arthur Payne, A.R.A.M., now numbers forty per- formers, the majority of whom are soloislts in the first rank in their profession. Orchestral concents are given at the Pier Head in the morning and vocal and orchestral concerts in the Pavilion in the evening. At the latter to-nigiht Miss Esther Palliser (soprano) and Mr H. Turnpenny (tenor) will sing. The latter will also sing nightly until Friday evening. On Saturday, August 10th, in addition to the vocalists (Miss Irene Ainsley and Mr Frederick Ranalow), Herr Backhaus, the famous pianist, will give selections. < < THE PIERROTS Another popular entertainment on the Pier is that given by Messrs Ade/ler and Sutton's company of Pierrots, who perform twice daily at three and eight o'clock. The progranimies are changed at each performance, and as the list of ar-tistes for the week includes the names of Charles Harvey, Jus Bransfield, Jack Hughes, Clifford, Grey, and A. R. Sutoliffe (manager), visi)tors are assured olf a couple of hours of mirth and enjoyment. THE PIER VARIETIES. The ever-popular animated picture entertain- ment given at the Pier Varieties should not be missed. The quality of the entextainn-ient may be guaged, when it is stated that the; theatre was .opened throughout the winter, and did not lack sufficient patronage, to make such a venture a commercial success. The films are changed weekly, and are the best and latest on the market. Entrance may be obtained either from the: Pier or from the Happy Valley Road. » » THE GRAND THEATRE. Opening somewhat later than usual, the I Grand Theatre last week drew large houses nightly. This is not surprising, for the policy of the management in .engaging the best tour- ing companies only lis biound to' prove the most successful in the long run. To-night "His House in Order" wil be played by Mr George Alexander's Company, and on Monday Mr Wil- liam Greet will present "The Earl and the Girl" for the second time to Hand udno audiences. Visitors not laJliready acquainted with the fact will be glad to leam that during the winter a new road has been constructed from the North-Western Hotel past this tht-atre, and that therefore it is much easier of access. It is hoped that the light railway, which also pass the theatre, will be opened for traffic during the month. THE PRINCE'S THEATRE. Situate- an the heart of the town, this theatre is an exceedingly popular one. Variety enter- tainments of high-class have, been given night- ly during the week, and wilil be continued until August 10th, with an entire change of programme at each performance. For the varielty entertainments the two house a night policy has been adopted with, success. On Monday Miss Dinah Morris will commence a week's engagement, this being her last appear- ance before returning to America. Matinee animat-ed picture exhibitions are given daily. OTHER INDOOR ATTRACTIONS. At the Art Gallery,, Upper Moistyn Street, Herbert Schmalz's great picture, "The R<tiv. a from Calvary," is on view. This magnificent painting has been visited by over a million
