Ladies and Gentlemen, After three years of faithful service on the Urban District Council, I have, been asked, by an influential and repre- sentative body of Ratepayers in the Ward, to again offer myself as a, Candidate, and to this request I have acceded. I claim to have striven to justify the confidence you then placed in me, and have every reason to believe my services have been appreciated. ECONOMY. As showing the part I have played, in economy^ I claim to have, been the means of having-saved a considerable amount of money to the Ratepayers in connection with the repairs at Llyn Dulyn Embank- ment. Last year we adopted the Free Libraries Act, and took over the old premises, levying a, Id. rate for the maintenance of same without any advance, on the rates. LIGHTING. At my request many new incandescent lamps have been substituted for old ones in our front and back streets, thereby caupsing the streets to be beter lighted at a less cost.. After serving on the Bye-laws Committee for two years, I was elected: Chairman of the same, and claim to have performed my duty on that Committee without bias. During my three years, I have been one of the strongest supporters in providing work for the working men of the town dur- ing the winter months; namely, the exten- sion of the 15-inch water main from Vaughan Street to Llanrhos one winter, and from Llanrhos to Llandudno Junc- tion the following winter, being convinced that all work of a similar nature should be carried out by the Council during the winter months, namely, between October and March. URBAN COUNCIL ELECTION. NO CONTEST IN THE WESTERN WARD. As the date of the poll for the election of Urban District Councillors draws nigh, there is an apparent increase of interest taken in the contest by the electorate, not- withstanding the fact, that Councillors Hugh Edwards and William Thomas were returned unopposed for the Western Ward, proof that the ratepayers in that ward are in the main well satisfied with their representatives. THE CENTRAL WARD. The candidates in the Central Ward are WILLIAM ARNOLD, .proposed by Mr William T. Broeklehurst, and seconded by Charles Thomas Bevan. THOMAS SMITH, proposed by Thos. Walkerr- and seconded by William Hill. JOHN OWEN THOMAS, proposed by William Arnold, and seconded by Wil- liam rBevan. The retiring candidates are, Messrs J. O1. Thomas and Thos. Smith. The- former is by this time an old compaigner, hav- ing been a member of the Council for many years. For the past twelve months he has occupied the most onerous post of Chairman of the Health Committee, not an enviable, position by any means. Mr Smith has just completed his first term of office, and for the past twelve months has presided over the deliberations of the Bye-laws Committ,e.e. At present he has charge of the, arrangements that are being made for the demonstration of fire bri- gades to be held at Llandudno in June. Their seats on the Council are challenged by Mr Win. Arnold, who has not, yet sat on a public body. Last year he contested the Eastern Ward unsuccessfully. On that semi-official organisation, the Town Improvement Association, hel has however given invaluable help, and is at present Chairman of the Extension Concerts Com- mittee. EASTERN WARD. Four candidates will go to the poll in the Eastern Ward, viz. SAMUEL CHANTREY, proposed by Dr. Loekhart Mure, a.nd seconded by James Norrie. JOHN ROGEIR DAWSON, proposed by Thomas Hughes, and seconded by Robert Teer. ROBERT JOHN WILLIAMS, pro- posed by William Davies and seconded by Arthur John Peacock. HENRY WILSON, proposed by George B. Hughes, and seconded by Albert E. Vollan-i. The retiring members, who, both seek re-election, are Messrs Chant rev and Wil- son. The former who the. previous year was chairman of the Council, has for twelve months ben chairman of the Works Committee, and for the past few months has devoted much time to the study of the foreshore and the problem of how to re- tain the shingle on the beach-a most im- portant problem. Mr Wilson deserves well of the ratepayers in the Eastern Ward, for he has taken the lead in ad- vocating many improvements for that, portion of the town which could not in justice be any longer delayed. He still hopes to secure a, boat jetty for the con- venience of visitors and residents in the Craigydon district. Both the challengers have previously been members of the Council, and it may be stated very useful members. Mr Dawson possesses in a marked degree the capacity for thorough- ly investigating any and every question brought up for consideration, and was during his term of office most con- scientious in attending to his duties. Mr R. J. Williams while in office was a very keen economist, and as chairman of the Electriciity Committee, did good ser- vice. He did not seek election after his last term of office. Polling takes place for both wards on Saturday, April 3rd. The polling stations are the Town Hall for the, Central Ward and Craigydon 'Council Schools and the Carlton Private Hotel for the Eastern Ward. The returning' officer is Mr A. ELECTRIC TRAMWAY COMPANY. REPORT OF THE! DIRECTORS. Appended is the report of the directors of the LIandudno and District Electric, Tramway Company, to be submitted to the shareholders at the general meeting, tOo be held to Winchester House, Old Broad Street, London, EI.O., on Mbnday next: 1. The Directors herewith submit the audited accounts of the Company for the year to 30th November, 1908. 2. The profit for the period, after pro- viding for operating and administration expenses, and interest on loan, amounts to £ 5,299 10s. 8d. which the Directors re- commend should be applied as follorws In placing to" depreciation reserve account, £ 500; in writing off preliminary expenses account, £ 1,500; leaving to be carried forward, £ 3,299 10s. 8d. total, £ 5,299 10s. 8d. 3. The complete line from Llandudno- to Oolwyn Bay was not available for traffic until the 6th June, 1908. The accounts therefore only represent the working of the whole undertaking for about sx months. The curtailment of the holiday season owing to abnormally batdi weather in August and September, also adversely affected the year's returns. 4. As the result of the experience gained last year steps are' being taken to increase the facilities for tlrlaffic on the line by additional rolling stock, and the Directors confidently anticipate, much bet- ter results for itihe current year. The gross receipts since the closing of the accounts show a hgh rate, of increase over the corresponding! period of last year. 5. The extension to Old Cblwyn, authorised by the Shareholders^ is still under consideration by the authorities, and it is expected that a settlement can be arrived at and the Order obtained in the near future. The, Directors are of opinion tha,t, this will prove to be a valuable addi- tion to. the Company's system. 6. It, will be necessary to make arrangements to pay off temporary loans and to provide funds for future capital re- quirements, including the completion of the Old Cblwyn Extension, and the Directors therefore recommend that the borrowing powers of the Directors should be inceased to, £ 75,0'00i. It, is also pro- posed to change the. Company's name to "Llandudno and Colwyn Bay Electric Railway, Limited." Resolutions in respect of both these matters will accord- ingly be proposed at the meeting: 7. Mr Roland S. Portheim and Mr Charles H. Rigg have retired; from the Board, and Mr A. W. Tait, was appointed a Director on the 3rd instant, in the place of Mr Portheim. The Directors to retire, at this meeting are Mr Thomas Stoker, pursuant, to1 the provisions of Clause 98, and Mr T'ait and Mr Touche (whose appointment takes effect since the, last, ordinary general meeting) under Clause 102 of the Articles of Asso- ciation, all of whom being eligible, offer themselves for re-election. 8. The auditors, Messrs George A. Touche and Co., retire, owing to Mr Tait's appointment on the Board, and Messrs Hays, Akers and Hays, Chartered Accountants,_ are put, forward for election in their place. Local Celebrities P < MR. JOHN ROBERTS. A member of one, of the original Llan- dudno, families, Mr John Roberts, Bryn Oelyn, is known to. every resident as a man who takes an active interest in all projects concerning' the progress and ex- tensions of the town. His weekly con- tributions of "LJandudno as it Was," which are now appearing in the "Adver- tise: are highly appreciated by all read- ers, and are a proof of the keen interest he has taken in the history and development of his native town. Mr Roberts is a man of great activity as evidenced by the. many offices he has held and his various pur- suits, which include the. chairmanship of the Llandudno Ratepayers' Association, a Baird of more, than local distinction, Deacon of the Welsh Baptistt Chapel, for two successive years president of the Llandudno Society for the Protection of Trade; vice-chairman of the St. David's Day Dinner, an Overseer of the Parish of Llandudno conductor of the forthcoming Children's Choral Festival, Chairman of the Regatta Committee, and President of the Gogarth Friendly Society. The above list proves that our local celebrity is a man of many parts, and we are simply echoing a, general sentiment when we express a hope that he may long enjoy health and strength to continue his work in a manner creditable to himself and of advantage to the town of his birth.

AN ASSAULT.—At Llandudno Police Court on Monday Mrs Garside, Alexandra Road, chairged Mary Hughes, a neigh- bour, with assaulting her on the 15th of February.
