One rod and line or hand line only to be used, and not moire than three hooks. Only round oar flat fish 8 inches or over in length to be weighed, excepting dabs which shall measure at least 7 inches. Not more than four competitors (exclusive of boatman) shall be allowed in a boat. A boatman shall not take any active part in the fishing, this includes baiting and gaffing. Entries to be made to the Secretary not later than 10 a.m. on the day of the competition. Competitors must make their own arrange- ments for boats and bait. This rule does not apply to sailing boats. Bilking the Railway Company DOMESTIC SERVANT FINED. At Llandudno Police Court on Monday, before Dr. Dalton and other magistrates, Mary Edwards, domestic -servant, at present in a situation in Rhyl, was charged with travelling on the London and North-Western Railway, on the 13th July, without a ticket and with intent to- defraud. Joseph Kidney, clerk at Addison Road Sta- tion, said that a woman canie to the booking office on the 13th of July and asked the fare to Abergele, and to Llandudno, saying she wanted to get to that town as quickly as possible. She was told the fare was 18s. 8d. Thein she asked what the fare was to Shrewsbury. She was told 13s., and! bought a ticket. Shrewsbury tickets were not kept at Addison Road Station, so the name was written on a blank ticket in ink. The ticket was numbered 1789, and he identified the one produced as that given to the woman. Fred Robinson, a booking clerk in the em- ploy of the Great Western Railway, who was in the same office as last witness confirmed the evidence of Kidney as to the conversation about trains and fares R. Webb, a Degianwy ticket collector, said that when he asked defendant for her namie and address she gave it as "Miss Edwardis, Craigydon, Llandudno." Witness did not think this sufficient, and she then said it would b-3 sure to find her. Detective McFall said he had an interview wr'th /the defendant, in the course of which she made a long rambling statement, 111 intaining that if she did not get a ticket to Llandudno she had paid for ;t, because she -only received Is. 4d. change oat of a sovereign. Defendant made a long statement, and pro- duced labels showing that her luiggage was addressed to Llama ■ dno. A fine of 20s. and costs was imposed;

MIDNIGHT AFFAIR ON THE ORME. At Llandudno Police Court on Monday, be- fore Dr. Dalton and other magistrates, Evan Joines, Penyffrith. was dbarged with being drunk and disorderly at midnight -on the 21st August, near t,he Blackgat-e. P.C. Evans (78) said that in consequence of complaints of inotous conduct he was detailed for special (Iiitv neaj the Black Gate. About 11-45 p.m. Evan Jones ùnd some others came' up and stopped arguing with eadh other until miklnight. He then told them lto go henne" Evans was drunk and would not go, although his wif-e hied! to persuade him. After a while he took hold of him to take him to the station, but he resisted, and eventually went home. A witness inamcd Wlhiteman, who was one of the party, said Evans was not staggering drunk, but he was not sober. He used very bad' language towards the end of the argument be- fore the policeman interfered. For the diefence accused called his wife; who alleged thaf the officer pushed her- husband about amid, would not allow him to stand up. and another woman who was with them told the same story. Evans himself said that it was impossible for him to be drunk. He was out of work, and had' not the means to get drunk. He alleged that the. constable had a grudge against him. In reply to the Chairman-, Deputy Chief Con- stable Rees s dd that there w ere twelve pre- vious convictions against defendant. A fine of 2:s. 6d. anid -cosits was imposed. ASSAULTING THE POLICE. Ernest Turner, Abbotsford, was charged with assaultina- P.C. Evans at the 'same time and place. Mr Marks appeared for the de- fendant, who plaaded guilty to a technical .offence. Deputy Chief Constable Rees said that the assault- was c-ommi'tted when the officer wa,s engaged in dealing with a previous defendant. Turner interfered and took hold of the officer by the throat and threw him on the ground. The officer eve.ntua.lly got on top. handcuffed .the defendant- and took ihim to the Police Station, but he was liberated on giving his name and address. Mr Majrks said he had nothing to say to what Mr Rees had outlined which was only too true, witlh the ex-planatron that M.v Turner bnd for-meid the -opinion 'that the -defendant m another case was not pettiiisr the. fair treatment from the officer lie should have received. Mr Turner was actuated Ivore by a desire to help that othar man than anytiiing else. He had already suffered the lindignity of being hamd- cuffed and taken to the police station. His client threw himself on the mercy of the court-, apologised to the officer, the pulice force gen- erally a-ndt the magistrates. Personally he (Mr Marks) thought the lesson would be a salutory one, and that his client would benefit by it. The magistrates imposed a fine of 10s. and costs, and hoped that- the lesson would not be lost.

RINKING NOTES. "SET FAIR." This is the season of the year when changes, and rumours of changes, tak. place, in con- nection with Mr Crawford's rinks. Resident managers, instructors, of both sexes, skate boys, electtrieians, in fact all em- ployees of the various rinks, run by the pioneers of this nev craze for the swanking art of iriinking, have been expecting, and in many cases hoping to receive their marching orders from Mr E. B. Barnes, the one-time resident manager at the Hippodrome, Llandudno. Mr Barnes is now stationed at the London office, and has complete control of the "signing-on" department, securing r.ew hainids end deciding the posts the old ones shall be relegated to. FTTPATRICK, resident manager. The appointment of Mr Fitzpatrick to fill the post of manager at the Hippodrome has been popular with all patrons of this rink. As a floor manager Mr Fitzpatrick has certainly excelled, arid he thoroughly deserves the con- fidence which his employers have displayed. We venture to predict he will carry out the new post entrusted to him with that distinc- tion and thoroughness w'hich has marked his past career in the service of this Company as floor manager. MR. T. EVANS, Floor Manager. His successor will, no dou-bt, find it diffi- cult to follow him and to carry out the floor management duties with such complete suc- cess, but we have every reason to believe that Mr T. Evans. Who by the way attains his majority on Mondlay next, can worthily fill his shoes; at the same time Tie has by no means an easy task. He will hardly have been broken in to the new duties ere he departs for Cardiff. He is due. there we believe the tenth of this miontJh. Cruelty Charges at Llandudno. BEATING A HORSE WITH A .STEEL-LINED WHIP. BEATING A LCNKEY. At Llandudno- Police Court on Monday, be- fore Dr. Dalton an-cll other magistrates, Thomas Astole, donkey driver, pleaded guilty to cruelly beating one of the annials in ihts -clharge 011 the 14th August. A fine of Is. and costs was im- posed A BRUTAL DRIVER. ) Inspector Sydnay Gibbs, R.S.P.C A., charged j Alfred Davies with cruelly beating a horse 011 the 16th August. Defendant pleaded guilty. Inspector Gibbs said he was on the Marine Drive, on the moarning in question when he saw the defendant in charge of a. bay horse. He saw thait it was uneasy, and on lifting the collar found a very small wound.. He advised the defendtai-it t-oi put some pads oq, and he promised to do so. In about ten minutes afterwards he again saw the defendant, but he was unmercifully beating the horse with a steel lined whip, causing the animal to plunge and rear. Tfhei horse came at full gallop passed witness. It was stopped by the cabmen, and when witnelss got up to it, it was practically nad, from excessive beatinig. Its back was covered with weals. Witness told the defen- dant that he might have a month's imprison- ment for it, and he replied that that would not do him any good. Twenty-four hours later witness visited the stable and found the horse not fit to go out. It was the most brutal case that he had ever .come across Asked if he had anything to say in extenua- tion. defendant said the horse, was a jibber and lie lost his temper with it. The.magistrates retired to consider their cle- criision, and ionreturaing inflicted a fine of £ 5 and costs. ATTEMPT TO BRIBE AN OFFICER. Joseph Hughes, Jubilee Street, was charged by the same officer with working a horse in an unfit state, and the owner, Wrn. Jones De- ganwy Street, was charged with causing it to be worked. Inspector Gibbs gave evidence of finding the h,ors,e with several wounds on it. The owner of the animal visited witness's house and dropped four flowins in his tunic .pocket, and made off on his cab. Wlitnesls followed, and told him that he did not want ibis money. P.C. Roberts also gave evidence. Defendant- Jones said he gave the money to the Inspector because he sent the horse home. He would, have sent it back to the stable him- self had he seen it, because it was alright when iit went out tiln the morning. Hughes was fined Is. and costs, and Jones 10s. and costs.
