MASKED CARNIVAL AT THE HIPPODROME.
MASKED CARNIVAL AT THE HIPPODROME. The Masked Costume Carnival held at the Hippodrome on Wednesday evening last was capitally attended, and considerable interest was taken in iJhe. awarding of prizes. Judging by the applause with which the winners were received, the judges' decisions met with general approval. T'he list of winners was as follows: Ladies: For the prettiest costume (prize silver-plated flower stand). Miss Poole, Leam- ington; most original (prize silver-plated pre- serve dish and stand), Mrs Beattie, Burnley most humorous (prize pair of skates), Miss Clare Mure, Llandudno. Gentlemen: Most original oosture (prize pair of skates), Mr W. M. Dixon, Dublin; most effective (prize silver cigarette case), Mr A. E. Williams,, Llandudnd; most humorous (prize pair of skates), Mr R. J. Roberts, Llandudno. It will be seen that Llandudnoiteis were suc- cessful in securing three ,out of the six prizes offered. Mr A. E. Williams repeating his success of twelve months ago, selecting an aeroplane fotr this occasion,. Miss Clare Mure, also a previous winner, thoroughly de,served the judges' verdict in her favour. The judges were Mr and Mrs Hornsby, Llandudtaoi; Mr Ashwojrth, Llandudno; iMT Arthur Roberts, London; Miss Parker, Colwyn Bay, vni M., Leighton, Llandudna. Mr Adams', the acting manager,, has worked m'otst indefatigably to secure the patronage of the skating public, and we cannot help but think his efforts will be fully rewarded in the near future. The spell of real summer weather which we have been experiencing of late is by no means conducive to this pastime. The coiriip-g events arranged, of which we give a list, extend until September 21st. Mr George Newell had arranged a capital progffamme of skating music, including up-to-date .selections and many old time favourites. Llandiudno rink, it would seem, is highly popular with the leading lights of the rinking world. Amongst iUmsle who are making Llan- dudno their headquarters for the holiday sea- son. we have noticed Mr and MWs Weaver, Mrs Bennett, Messrs. Lloyd, Lennie,. Evans, Edwards., and Lightfoot. Professor Lightfoot's special engagement for Wednesday was the tit-bit of the evening. His skating was brimful of most intricate and dis- tinctly clever trick and fancy skating, which evoked the heartiest recognition of all present from time toO time. We have rarely seen his equal for gracefulness, and his tbe twist, to the roll of the idrum, was excellent. We predict that once this skatier has overcome the very natural nervousness, which affects all artistes at the outset of their career, he will stand in the highest rank of the profession of his adoption. It is his interludes that are wanting in polish, the performance of trick or fancy work being perfect,, in this respect Mr Dave Bennett was pefrhaps the best example we' could name. The following is a list of the coming events,: Wednesday, July 20th, 'Cinderella. Wednesday, July 27th, Grand Masked and Costume Cairnival and Confetti Battle. Wednesday, August 3rd, Grand Seaside Car- nival. Wednedsay, August 10th, Cinderella. Wednesday,, August 17th, Skating Gymkhana. Wednesday, August 24th, Masked and Cos- tume Carnival and Confetti Battle. Wednesday, August 1st, International Car- nival. (Cositumes representative of the flags, emblems and native dresses of every nation. Wednesday. September 7th, Seaside Carnival. Wednesday, September 14th, Cinderella. Wednesday, September 21s Masked and Cos- tume Carnival. "I was not using bad language," said a man a.t Clerkeawell on Monday. "I am not gifted in that way."
