HIPPODROME SKATING RINK. THE: WINTER SESSION. The number of signatures received, of intending season ticket holders, up to the time of going to press is most encourag- ing. and the management have already I made arrangements to re-surface the floor in time for the opening- session, on Wed- nesday next, November 2nd. The skating surface of the Llandudno Rink has always been spoken of by skaters from' all parts of the country who have from time to time tested it, as being without exception, the best laid floor in the country, not, even excepting the famous floor at "Olympia," London. There are still to be found amongst, the non-skaters those who predict rinking is over, not only at Llandudno, but else- where. There can be no doubt that in some towns where rinks sprang" up in a single week, half-a.-dozen at a time, that the "boom" soon fizzled out, but in such towns as Llandudno, where only one rink has been run, and that on the most com- mendable lines, the boom is yet in its infancy. Only the very few enthusiastic inhabitants cnspare. the time, during Llandudno's .season, to go in for rinking extensively, but the management have not forgotten the fact that they were at the outset, and as long as various avocations permitted, most enthusiastic supporters, and it is for that reason they have deter- mined to give them an opportunity of in- dulging; in, what after all is a winter pas- time, at a, nominal charge. As a proof that the boom is by no means over,, many of those who learnt roller skating! in the old days and years ago, are as keen as ever, those who learnt in the first year of the so-called ''boom" are getting further interested in the more advanced stages of the art, and those who learnt last year are bent on obtaining" a better proficiency in the more elementary stages, whilst those people who were con- tent to look on for at least two years, have not been able to hold out any longer, and have been seen putting in good time recently. The, number of inquiries for the winter contract tickets from Colwyn Bay, De- anwy, Conway and Bangor is a further proof of the firm hold that rinking; has obtained amongst, the better class, who cannot only afford to indulge in the pas- time, but bear the additional expense of rail and tramway. The success which has attended rinking all over the country has been'secured dur- ing the winter months. Llandudno at the outset was tried as an experiment as a summer rinking' town, that it succeeded wa,s due to the excellent management of the American Roiler Rink Co., Ltd., at the outset, and latterly the International Rink Company. There are some interesting details that we are in possession of that up to the present time have not been made public. The management being desirous of hold- ing out no specially tempting offer to in- duce the skating; public to join. All they have promised is to provide an orchestra at each afternoon and evening session, Wednesdays and Saturdays, a full fort- night's skatingi at Xmastide, Saturday mornings being! chiefly reserved for be- ginners, arrangements being made for in- struction, the season to extend from Wed- nesday next, November 2nd, until the first Saturday in April, twenty-two weeks in all, and the charge is only one guinea, for a contract ticket available at any ses- sion and to include the use of skates. Amongst the interesting; details hinted at we are able to announce that school- children will be admitted, to the afternoon sessions only, at the. nominal charge of six- pence, including skates, this special privilege wil also be extended to the Boy Scouts. Lady contractors may set their minds at rest that, no rink hockey will be allow- ed, and this for a very good reason, no rinking surface can possibly be kept in perfect condition if hockey is permitted. The Hippodrome will be available, on the remaining days of the week, for whist, private dancing parties, or public meetings,. The floorwitl be specially protected against any possible damage. Staticians who. after reading the above and care to go into details will be able to find out for themselves what the cost per session this contract is going to pan out at. There are twenty-two weeks, five sessions per week, without the fortnight at Xmas, at less than a. shilling a, week, surely this is sufficiently low enough to induce the skating public to give its whole-hearted support, and the general public cannot hejlp but see that it is an attraction for winter visitors on a scale that has not been previously attempted, and one that is bound to induce a con- siderable increase in Xmas holiday visi- tors. The hotel proprietors: have already 4 signified their great pleasure in the pro- posal and promised it their practical sup- port. Naturally they will, when it is au fait accompli, notify their clientele when sending out their winter tariff. It is a scheme that commands success, and we feel certain the management may rest assured that in their laudable en- deavour to extend the season, and en- courage more visitors to -stay amongst us in the short days and long wintry nights, they will be heartily supported by all classes of society quite apart from the rinking fraternity.

FOOTBALL ON THE COAST. WELSH AMATEiUiR CUP COMPETI- TION. (Preliminary Round). The preliminary round of the Welsh Amateur Cup Competition was played on Saturday. Somewhat of a surprise, was created at Holyhead, where the homesters ie were defeated by Carnarvon by one goal to nil. The Llanrwst team visited Col- wyn Bay and put up so good a fight that honours were even at the close. Other re- sults in the same competition were — Acrefair, 3; Royal Welsh Warehouse 2 Summerhill, 1; Gresford, 0. Esclusham, 2; Gyfelia, 1. Rhos Rangers, 9; Druids Reserves, 0. 7Ç 7Ç 7õ NORTH WALES JUNIOR CUP. AMATEURS RESERVES BEAT COLWYN BAY CELTS. The Amateur Reserves were in a gjoal- getting humour on Saturday afternoon when pitted against the Colwyn Bay Celts in the first round of the North Wales Junior Cup Competition on the Council Fiald. The teams were constituted as fol- lows Llandudno Amateurs' Reserve R. Lunt (goal), R. T. Williams and J. H. Davies (backs), H. Davies, G. Davies (capt.), and W. Owen (half-hacks), W. F'. Shipley, J. M. Davies, R. Roberts, F1. Roberts, and J. Meredith (forwards). < Colwyn Bay Celts: D. Ll. Jones (goal); Ted Parry and Evan R. Jones ZD (backs); John Hughes, Llew. Roberts (capt.) and Wl T. Hoskins (half-backs); W. E. Jones, EI. Ri Jones, Ted Lunt, R. Jones:, and W. Jones (forwards). From the start it was evident that the visitors, although heavier, were no match for the nimble reserves, who tested the Celts' custodian with high shots and low shots at short intervals. The way the Re- serves made for the goal was very pleas- I ing, and results came as a matter of course. Morris Davies was the first to do the trick, Frank Roberts popped on number two and Bob of that ilk is be- lieved to have put the finishing touch to the third goal. Morris Davies wound up the first half by scoring the fourth goal. Previously R,. Lunt had saved magnifi- cently from a penalty kick and been call- ed upon now and then. Generally speak- ing, however, the ball was never far from the visitors' goal. The second half was rather more even- ly contested, especially the first quarter of an hour, but the homesters always ap- peared to hold the whip hand. Frank Roberts scored the fifth and sixth goals, 'n aind W. Owen (Settle) was responsible for the seventh from a corner kick. The visi- tors failed to respond, the game ending with the score Llandudno Reserves w. 7 Colwyn Bay Celts 0 v A FEW NOTES. The strength of the home team lay in the half-back, line, The skipper, George Davies, was much too good for the Celts, and W. Owen was scarcely ever beaten. In the first half he placed the ball very cleverly, and two of the, goals were dis- tinctly traceable to his placing. He fed off in the second half by trying to be too tricky. H. Daivies was not so prominent but very dogged. Lunt was safe, and weEI deserved the applause he got on sav- in from a penalty kick. R. TI. Williams was the safer of the two backs, but J. H. Davies is undoubtedly a youth of great promise. Of the forwards Frank Roberts and Meredith were the, pick,, the former having any amount of dash and his goals were beauties. Bob Roberts, another player with plenty of go" would be of in- finitely greater service to his side if he could keep a cooler head on his shoulders. Shipley and M. Davies were generally in evidence, and made up a quintette which should soon place the team higher un on the league table. .I. DISGRACEFUL SCENES AT PWLL- HELI. Barmouth and Pwllheli met at the lat- ter town, and some disgraceful scenes were witnessed: After a penalty had been awarded the visitors and saved the specta- tors broke on the field of play and there was a free fight. When that was quelled by the police, Bob Ellis, one of the home team, was ordered off the field. The visitors eventually won by two goals to nil, and the disorderly scenes were renew- ed at the close of the game, when an at- tempt was made to mob the referee. OTHER, RESULTS. SEA ANGLING NOTES. The attention of members is specially drawn to the fact that on Friday next, November 4th, the annual meeting of this Association will be held at Head- quarters, The Royal Hotel, at 8 30 p.m. This is a most important meeting of the Association, and it is hoped a large num- ber of members will be present. -x- On Friday following November 11th the Association will hold a Hot Pot at the Royal Hotel, commencing at 7 30 p.m. These Hot Pots are always very enjoyable functions, and are the means of bringing anglers into touch with one another. In addition to the usual good feed we are promised a very interesting musical pro- I gramme. Particulars as to tickets may be had from Mr Howel Jones, our hon. secretary, and an early application for them is desired. I have received particulars of eight boat competitions and four pier competi- tions, held this season, on which are as follows —. Boat Competitions: Competitors, 153. Weight of fish caught, 963 lbs. I understand that one or two valuable cups are being presnted to the Associa- tion for competition, also a costly rose bowl, which proves that our Society is being recognised as a valuable asset to the town's attractions. -If Sport continues very fair, and last week-end the Pier Head anglers had a zl- realy good time, Messrs, Kenneth Wil- liams, Dean, Wilson, and others having good takes of codling, flats. etc., also some very good flats have been caught from the West Shore. GOLF.
GOLF. GREAT ORME GOLF CLUB v. COLWYN BAY GOLF CLUB. Special interest was centered in the above match on the Great Orme Links on Saturday last, as this was the fourth meeting of the, clubs this year, the pre- vious matches all having been won by the Orme club.. Colwyn Bay were strongly represented, and were rather fortunate in finding the Orme club minus the ser- vices of their captain (Mr Brundrit) and two other leading players this had the effect of bringing out the strong reserves which the Orme club have to fall back upon, and they fully maintained their reputation by very materially helping the club to victory by the narrow margin of 5 matches to 4. It was a narrow shave for the home club, and at one period an anxious time for the hon. secretary, who now has visions of completing the season without defeat.
