Notes and News.
Notes and News. DISESTABLISHMENT has been introduced to the Commons at last. But will it establish the reputation of the Liberal Party? THE Welsh M.P.'s were in strong force at the Commons this week, and their attendance will be required daily for the remainder of the Session. WILL the Right Hon. D. Lloyd George's Budget be a revolutionary one ? The country is expecting one of a very advanced type from him, and we hope that it will not be disappointed. IT looks as if we shall have Disestablish- ment and Disendowment of the Church in Wales before we are presented with the Report of the Welsh Church Commission MR. D. A. THOMAS, M.P., has gone to Italy under medical advice, and will Dot return to England until early in June. He is accom- panied by Mrs. Thomas, and we are desired to state that letters will not be forwarded. The hon. Member has made excellent pro- gress towards recovery, but his long and trying illness has left him very weak, and he is still suffering a good deal from rheumatic pain. It is hoped, however, that the com- plete change and rest will thoroughly re- cuperate him. MR. WILLIAM BRACE, M.P., is indisposed, but it is hoped that he will be able to attend to his Parliamentary duties very regularly after next week. THE Rev. D. Glanant Davies, of Exeter, and a Welshman, has been invited to the pastorate of Harecourt Chapel, Canonbury, London. ALDERMAN DAVID WILLIAMS, who has been adopted as Labour candidate for Swansea, is a good speaker and a capital all round man. THE Rector of Merthyr is of opinion that Mr. D. A. Thomas, M.P., will end his days as a rank Tory. We do not wish to suggest that the genial member has come to the end of his days, but we are certain that he has been a thorough-going Tory for some time past. IT is interesting to note that Mr: John Davies, J P., who has just died at Denbigh at the age of 78 years, was a deacon of Swan Lane Chapel, Denbigh, for 37 years. MERTHYR has had a new police van, for the conveyance of prisoners to and from the railway station and the cells. At a recent meeting of the watch committee, the Mayor, in referring to the Black Maria," said it was really a "beautiful vehicle"! Do the prisoners think so ? THE resuscitation of the Cymreigyddion y Fenni" is being attended with much success. The society inaugurated its three days' congress at Abergavenny on Wednes- day in last week, with a pilgrimage to the tomb of Carnhuanawc, the historian of Wales, which lies in the valley of Cwmdu, nine miles away. THE Central Welsh Board Chief Inspector states in his report that it was satisfactory to observe that the Welsh language had been included in the curriculum at the Swansea Grammar School. There is, by the way, a good deal of Welsh spoken at Swansea, much more than at Cardiff. To WELSH booksellers and readers in general, as well as to the bibliophile in particular, the Bibliography of Wales," compiled and arranged by Mr. Ifano Jones, Welsh Librarian at the Free Library, Cardiff, is a veritable boon. The April number is just out, and is the largest of all the 26 numbers compiled by Mr. Jones since April, 1900. It contains particulars as to authors, editors, translators, publishers, prices, &c., of almost every book, pamphlet, or leaflet in Welsh or relating to Wales printed since the publication of the last number of the Bibliography in July 1908. The items recorded in the April number are over 360. A MEETING was held at Carmarthen on Wednesday last in promotion of the applica- tion for the National Eisteddfod of 1911. The Mayor (Mr. John Crossman) presided. All present were sanguine as to the result. Steps were taken to obtain the necessary guarantee fund, most of which is to be col- lected in the borough of Carmarthen and its immediate neighbourhood the county people of West Wales to be asked to liberally con- tribute when the decision to hold the National Eisteddfod at Carmarthen two years hence is an assured fact. The hon. secre- tary is Mr. J. C. H, Portnell, 2, Francis- terrace, Carmarthen.
