An extensive and more genuine demand for electric light and power has made itself evident, and the cor- poration have now more orders on hand than 30& any previous period. The result of the past year's work is highly satisfac- tory, and a reference to the accounts for 1888 will show that, as compared with the previous year, the volume of business shows an increase of about 38 por cent., and the gross profit Itn increase of 70 per cent., while the standing charges show an increase of only about 7 per cent. The accompanying diagram illustrates the proress made by the Corporation during the past five years, and the enclosed report of the proceedings of the last annual general meeting contains information as to the general position of the corporation.
