MONEY MARKET. .
MONEY MARKET. LONDON, Saturday. An easier Money Market was reported. The Unconverted Consols were paid oft, and dividends were due hence supplies of capital were much more liberal, and as employment does not increase rates will fall away, though no great change occurred to-day. The Treasury bills had to be paid for, but the amount due on the old bills was about the same as the new, whilst as the Bank has taken £ 1,000,000 of the new issue, there has been a further increase in floating balances. An easy market for some little time is promised, notwithstanding the French inquiry for gold. The charge for short loans is Ib to 2 per cent., and three months' bills are discounted at lito 1 5-16 per cent. Quite an insignificant business has oeen passing on the Stock Exchange even for a Saturday, There was a very thin attendance, and those present showed no inclination to operate. Move- ments were rather irregular. New Consols rose 1-16 to i, to 98i to 98J for delivery, and 981 tc 981 for the account New 21 per Cent. CARDIFF EXCHANGE.
CARDIFF EXCHANGE. BUTE DOCKS, SATUBDAY. The attendance on 'Change to-day was about the average, but business on the whole was in. clined to be sluggish. In the steam coal trade there was a moderate inquiry, at last prices, but very few sales were effected in the house coal market. Pitwood was very firm, and prices had an upward tendency, and the same remark applies to furnace coke. In our local freight market to-day chartering for steam was somewhat inactive, and only a limited business, particularly Mediterranean way, has been effected. Rates for this direction are slightly weaker, but there was little or no material alteration in Bay Ports, coasting, or Gibraltar freights. Baltic and Spanish rates were steady, Eastern quotations remain unchanged. The following include tbe latest operations :— Savona, 128 licl (Robert Ingram). Venice, 11s 72d, clean term of charter (Glen- bervie). Constantinople, 10s 3d, net conditions. Naples, 11s 42d (Grantully), Genoa, 10s 6d, clean and combination terms of charter (Waterloo). Sail.—The demand for this class of tonnage continues active, and a fair chartering business has again been effected. Kates for the River Plate and Brazils closed firm, and the same may be said of West Indian and South American freights. Baltic rates were steady. Coasting and Mediterranean quotations remain unaltered. Ore.—Market continues quiet, and tonnage only in limited demand for the Bristol Channel ports. Rates from Bilbao continue weak. Homeward ore quotations from Carthagena, Benisaf, and Huelva were also unimproved. The following fixture has been reportedBilbao to Terneuaen. 7s 3d (1,850 steamer).
