BOROUGH PETTY SESSIONS.
BOROUGH PETTY SESSIONS. These Sessions were held on monday last, at the Town Hall, before George Cansick, Esq., mayor. George Grove and William Williams, were sum- moned charged with committing a breach of the peace, fined 6s 6d each including costs. At the close of the sessions, his worship the Mayor requested us to inform the public that the inconvenience caused on Saturday last, in the mar- ket house, in consequence of the snow having been drifted inside, should not occur again, that the Lessee had promised so.
BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING.
BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING. This meeting was held at the Board room at 12 o'clock at noon yesterday, when the following gen- tlemen were present:—George Cansick Esq., mayor in the chair. Messrs. John Morris, John Prothero, Thomas, Williams, John Davies, and Phillip Bright. The Town Clerk having read the minutes of the previous meeting, it was ordered, on the motion of Mr. Davies, seconded by Mr. T. Williams, that Mr. Kirk furnish the Board with a copy of his re- port on the Waterworks plans, and which should be handed to Mr. Davies, surveyor. Mr. Bright said that an error had 'occured in the report of the previous meeting in what he had said by mentioning Mr. Cobb's name instead of the Markets Company. The Mayor informed the meeting that the whole of the interest due from the money left by the late R. T. Watkins, Esq., had been expended in reliev- ¡ ing the poor of the Borough.

BRECONSHIRE CHARITIES. From the Commissioners' Report of 1836. PARISH OF LLANSPYDDID. WILLIAMS'S CHARITY. Tobias Williams, by Will, dated 1st October, 1663, bequeathed 12d. in bread, to be every Sun- day distributed to the poor of Llanspyddid yearly for ever, and charged with the payment thereof certain lands and tenements in the hamlet of Modrydd, in this parish. The property so charged is a farm, now known by the name of Court Gilbert, containing about 180 acres, the property of the Marquis Camden, and in the occupation of William Probert, by whom the rent-charge of 21. 12s., is annually paid on account of the Marquis. The sum is expended in bread; and six two- penny loaves are distributed every Sunday among as many poor widows of the parish of Llanspyddid and its hamlets, exclusive of Penpont. HAMLET OF PEN PONT. GAMES AND WALKER'S CHARITY. In the hamlet of Penpont, 40 twopenny loaves are distributed every fourth Sunday in the year among such of the poorest persons in the parish of Llanspyddid, as Penry Williams, Esq., the Lord- lieutenant of the county, may judge fit objects of the charity. The distribution is made by the parish clerk, under the direction of Mr. Williams, and without the interference of the minister. PARISH OF LLYWELL. BEVAN'S CHARITY. In the year 1822, Mr. Parry, the vicar of Lly- well, applied to the trustees of this charity for the benefit of the institution. A master was accord- ingly sent, who continued in the parish four years, and instructed between 30 and 40 of the poor children in reading and writing the English lan- guage. The schoolmaster has subsequently visited the parish for 12 months, during which period the same number of children received the benefit of the charity as on the former occasion. JOHN JEFFREYS'S CHARITY. It is stated in the Parliamentary Returns of 1786, that the above-named donor, by Will, dated about 1706, had left 1001. for the poor of the pa- rish, and that the charity, at that period, was a payment of 51. issuing out of certain tithes. The parish of Llywell receives 51. as a rent- charge, on account of this charity, from various sources. The sum of 31. 6s. 8d. is annually paid by John Lloyd V. Watkins, Esq., of Pennoyre, near Brecon, as lay impropriator of the tithes of Merthyr Cynog. £1 6s. 4d. is received from Morgan Morgan, as the proprietor of a farm situate in Trauan Glaes, in Llywell, and called Cwmllwyfog. John Evans, of Carreglwyd, in Trauan Mawr, in Llywell, pays 7s. per annum as the proprietor of a meadow, containing about 4 acres, near Llywel church, and called Wainddu. These sums are generally paid, shortly after the 2nd February (the day on which they are respec- tively due) to the overseers of the parish, and di- vided by the vestry, soon after the receipt, amongst the poor of the three hamlets of Llywell, in sums of from K to 5s. The amount alloted to each hamlet is as follows :— M £ S. D. Trayan Glaes 2 2 6^ Trayan Mawr l 12 l" Ysclydach 1 6101 X5 0 0 This benefaction is confined to those who do not receive regular weekly pay from the parish, and the names of the recipients are regularly en- tered in the book containing the accounts of the overseers of the poor. ROGER JEFFREYS'S CHARITY. Roger Jeffreys, by Will, dated 23rd June, 1714, and proved at Brecon on the 30th August, 1714, gave to the poor of the hamlet of Ysclydach in this parish the sum of 11., to be annually paid on every Christmas-day, and distributed at the discretion of the vicar and overseers of the poor of the said hamlet, and charged the same upon his messuages, lands, tenements, and hereditaments, situate near the village of Rhydbrue in this parish. The property charged with this ll. consists of four pieces of arable land, containing about six acres, called Rhydbrue, with five cottages, and other buildings erected thereon, now the property of Mr. Daniel Rees, a farmer of Devynnock. The rent-charge is regularly paid to the over- seers of Ysclydach, and, being" added by them to the share they received of John Jeffreys's Charity, is distributed at the same period among the like class of persons. PARISH OF YSTRADGYNLAIS. AUBREY'S CHARITY. It is stated in the Parliamentary returns of 1786 that one Morgan Aubrey, at a period unknown, gave a rent-charge of £3 per annum for the poor of this parish. No further information could be obtained respecting this charity but the sum of £4 5s., which is believed to be the same donation, is annually received by the overseers of the parish, and by them carried to the church-rates. This sum is charged upon a farm, called Twyn- cailog, in the parish of Defynnock, the pro- perty of John Powell, of Penwingon fach, in the parish of Llywell, and tenanted by one David Davies. PARISH OF YSTRADFELLTE. U It'D', BEVAN'S CHARITY. This parish was visited by Mrs. Bemn's circula- ting school about nine years ago, which remained two years, and was considered very beneficial. Application was made last year to the trustees by the Rev. Thomas Williams, the then curate, for the renewal of the visit of the master but it was stated by Mr. Jenkin Walters, one of the wit- nesses, tbat he was told the trustees declined to comply with tne application, as, there being no school from this charity within 50 miles of the parish, the expense of the attendance of the visitor would be too great to be justifiable.
