MEMORIAL. A number of friends of the late Mr. William Williams, (Givilym ap Rhys,) assembled at the Bull Inn, Glyn Tarrell, and appointed a com- mittee for the purpose of raising a public subscrip- tion, to enable them to erect a monument to his memory at Llanspyddid. „ The chair was occupied by the Rev. J. D. Morgan, vicar of the parish, Mr. John Evans, Post Office, Brecon, treasurer, and JOHN PROBERT, GARNGALED, Secretary. Subscriptions will be thankfully received by either of the above gentlemen. Mr. Williams was a faithful servant to the Odd- fellows and Iforite benefit societies for many years. THE STANDARD LIFE ASSURANCE COMPANY. THIS Company was established at Edinburgh in 1825. The Acts of Parliament 2d & 3d Gul. IV., cap. 81, and 8th and 9th Vie., cap. 75, also the 22nd and 23rd Vie., cap. 27, have been granted for the purpose of its constitution and for the regulation of its affairs. It has been conducted with much success, which may be attributed not only to its extensive and influential connections, but more particularly to the liberality of its deal- ings, and to the constant attention paid by the Directors to the adoption of improvements and facilities in connection with the contract of Life Assurance. THE COMPANY'S INCOME, which,, is rapidly increasing, is upwards of Six HunDRED AND SIXTY THOUSAND POUNDS Sterling per annum. THK ACCUMULATED FUND, which is-up- wards of THREE MILLIONS SIX HUNDRED THOU- SAND POUNDS Sterling, is invested in Government Securities: Loans on the Security of Land, by Bond and Mortgage Landed Property; Ad- vances to the Company's Policyholdersj and other undoubted Securities. These Investments were specially investigated, on occasion. the Division of Profits in by a Committee of professional gentlemen for the purpose whose report, which was entirely favourable, -will be found in tile Company's Prospectus. THE COMPANY'S PROFITS have been divided on Seven occasions—1835, 1840, 1845, 1850, 1855, I860, and 1865. The next Division will take place in 1870, and at inter- vals of Five Years thereafter.
