SOME DELIGHTFUL LAND- SCAPES. In the course of the fine art feature of the November Windsor Magazine, which consists of fourteen delightful landscapes and pastorals by distinguished artists, grouped as ThemSg by Mead and Stream," together with a finely printed coloured plate, the writer says:—" We associate Mr Parsons with fairy parks and enchanted gardens, for he has a magic of his own of placing such delights before us in a romance of colour which haunts the recollection. Not that his range is limited, but he has a way of avoiding the drama of storm and stormclouds, and responding to the ideal and sunny aspect of Nature. In looking at 'Buttercups,' the eye, crossing the pellucid, plow-travelling liver, seeks and resfs with delight on the green carpets of cultivated land, unbelievably beautiful to those who like midday's urbanity. No clearer or diviner waters were ever more tranquillized through being held in the grip of cultivation than are these. There is not a ripple of air astir, and the cattle seek shelter from the glare, herding together in the shortened shadows of noon, when all ether 'is coursing in a maze of light.'

A GREAT BLOW. HOW MR. WALKER PASSED. It has been well said that If you want to know whether you are really ill or really well, i make a proposal for Life Insurance." Be sure that if you are well you will certainly be passed, but if you have any trace of serious disease the Medical Examiner will certainly discover it. Many men and women learn for the first time, when they. undergo a medical examination for Insurance, that they have some serious disease. It comes to them as a great shock, and casts a gloom over their life from that day onwards. Hope seems clouded out-for it is so seldom that anyono who fails for Life Insurance passes the doctor afterwards. THE SOUGHT-AND THE SHUNNED. Who is more eagerly sought after than the man who is thinking of insuring his life ? PEMBROKESHIRE BUTTER. VALUE OF COMPETITIONS. Interesting butter-making competitions were held at the Market Hall, Pembroke, recently. The competitions were organised by Mr Grant (county agricultural instructor), and pupils entered from Pembroke, Saundersfoot, and Lampeter Velfrey. The judge (Miss Jenny Reed) declared that she had not judged better butter at any of the leading shows. A gold medal and JE1 were awarded to Miss E. Roch, Main Street, Pembroke; a silver medal and 10s. to Miss May Bowen, Carew Newton, Milton, who were first and second respectively in the champion classes. Afterwards prizes and certificates were distributed by Mr G. Lort Stokes, Tenby, Mr Sketch (chairman of the Education Committee) presiding. Reference was made to the importance of these competitions for Pembrokeshire agriculturists, Mr Stokes remarking that in respect of agricultural improve- ment Pembrokeshire and Monmouthshire were the most advanced counties in Wales.
