NEWS IN BRIEF. The first international match of the Rugby season was played at Blackheath on Saturday, when Wales defeated England by a penalty goal and two tries to a placed goal and a try. Mr Justice Kennedy left town on Monday for the South Wales Circuit, and on Tuesday opened the Commission of Assize at Haverfordwest. The Royal Naval School has received a sub- scription of £ 50 from the King, who is the patron of the institution. Sir William Macdonald has given a donation of £25,000 for the teaching of domestic science to girls on Ontario schools.
