For nearly half a century the family of Maengwyn in Cardianshire have ever been pioneers of liberry and reform, and during the last 25 years none have laboured more zealously or energetically in the interests of Liberalism and Religious Equality. During the Anti-tithe struggle of the present day, it was Dr Enoch Davies and others of the Maengwyn family who planted themselves fearlessly in the breaoh, and at a lavish sacrifice of time and money carried timely succour to the persecuted peasantry of the West, when on the point of being crushed by clerical tyranny. At a Court ot Assize recently held a t' Lampeter, where the Courthouse was crowded with (aifcongst others) the Clergy, far and near, a case of assault alleged to have been committed by Mr Evan Davies, on the eve of the last General Election, enabled a, Special Jury of Cardiganshire, by due process of law, to mulct him in several hundreds of pounds for damages and costs, whilst in our opinion, from the evidence produced, Mr Davies was innocent of the •large. Opportunity is being taken of the present occasion by the many friends and admirers of Mr Evan Davies to make him a public 1 estimoiiial, as a slight recogni- tion of the manifold services he lias rendered inlhe canse of Liberal opinion. With this objict in view, an influential representa- tive Committee has been formed, and promises of Sub- scriptions are earnestly invited, to he addressed to the Secretary, at Gwessvn Yilb, Llandyssul. The Sub- scriptions already p.omised. in sums ranging from 6d to £20, amount to The List will be closed April 30th, 1893.
