IMPROVING THE DAIRY HERD: HOW TO OBTAIN THE MAXIMUM QUANTITY OF MILK. Great advances and improvements have been made 1lJ connection with dairy cows, and this movement lias been comparatively rooent. It has not been unknown with some of the broods for a considerable time as in the case of Jerseys and the non-pedigree Shorthorns, but up till quite lately, however, this oevelopment hew3 not been so systematic, and it is At, only recently that the selection of dairy oows, according to their milking abilities has been scienti- fically carried out. Indeed the movement has been "u recent that in the case of many breeds met with at shows milking power was actually discouraged, and such things ae the set of the horns, the shape of the body, and the smallness of the teats, were con- sidered more desirable thsui the ability to yield a large quantity of rich milk. Nowadays. however, great improvements have been isnti- tuted and it is all the rage to select and develop the Inilking powers of our cows in a way quite unheard of before. THE BEGINNING. The movement practically began with the Ayrshire breed and it was not a bit too soon in this case, for the showmen all round had nearly ruined whole thing by their fads and fanoit*. The ag John Speir was a pioneer in this work, ami it 1 connection with what he has done that the present and future movements will be likely to follow. The system had been in existence in other countries. Jerseys and Guernseys had been developed specially for their butter-yielding powers irrespective of the quantity of milk, and for many, many years no Cial/were allowed to land alive on tee islands for fear of contaminating tne native breeds Evei the Hoistoins in Holland have had a < this kind of development practised, and, in the case the development took the lme of an «joep tionally large quantity of milk without nuicharten tion to quality. Tin, now, f^^r^h rectified, and there are strains of Duton beside yielding a large quantity of mUk> ha^* quality quite comparable with that of any breed In the United States as well a great^deal h», been done in this line, both with the Duteh and with some of the others.. thin* in country wat'a paper read by the late Dr. Frean before the British Dairy Farmers' Association some ^wenty- woven years ago, advocating the use of the milk record. Following on that the British Dairy Farmers' Association offered gold medals for several successive years for the best kept recor d- present writer won one of these medals more than twenty-five years ago, and thus has kept a record himself for probably as long as any one else in th British Isles. It is only recently, however that the idea has slowly gained ground, but now the record- ing of the milk yields is universal: but it took pretty well twenty years of pioneering to get the thing started. GOVERNING IDEA. Th<> idoa behind the keeping of the records of course is to find out which individual cows are best for Siding the most milk during the twelve month, or for the milking period, together with the percentage of butter-fat: to keep these cows as long as possible, to breed from them, and thns in time to develop a milk-yielding strain of stock Unloi- tunately it takes a very long time to do th' and probably the long period involved is not realised y those who are working tip their records. The reason for this is that according to the lnvesti^at o of some American authorities the mother only in- fluences the young produced to the extent of I-16th; their sires, grandsires, grand dams, and *0 on have each their Influence on the progeny, and these, there- fore, sometimes upset our calculations as; those pre decessors are very often unknown. -g ,1 not appear to be realised that probably the stock bull has more to do with the milking-power of the probably than has the dam, for if the aire is not of good milking strain he may practically rpoil the whole show. One of the principal ideas m coi- tion with tkis is to make sure that the himself has a milking pedigree .behind him; that is not only should his dam be a good milker, but the dam of his sire in turn also. It practically means th;lt one is not sure of the quality of the offspring until after mx generations of selection have gone past. We verv often meet with a case where a good 00w has a very second rate calf, because there may be an old unimproved strain in some of her predecessors, which shows up, or "harks back" a åt is called 4 and thus gives inferior results. The great idea therefore is only to have cows of good milking Power, and also to be sure that their forerunners, and the forerunners of the aire shall be equaJly good milkers as far as mn possibly be known, and, then there is some possibility of good results being obtained. If one continues in this line one Is sure to get good animals in tne end. IMPROVEMENT CERTAIN. If each generation has been tested and only the best ones kept for future breeding, improvements will come sooner or later. It is one of the great drawbacks to the improvement of cattle that neither feeding nor sanitation can help any of the stock to be permanently better than they were before. This may enable individuals to yield more milk though it will not be improving their heredity, and it is only where the animals are naturally of good quality that there is any chance of future development by selec- tion. The oow must have the power and the ten- dency within her own constitution to yield well, as that cannot be trained into her by any system of treatment or by feedinj. On the other hand thero are so many examples of the thousand gallon c.ow< in existence that the grading up will not be rerx, difficult after all, and indeed there are so many of this quality that many breeders are now looking forward to the evolution of the two-thousand gallon Cow. This, of course, has been reached by the Dutch breed across the Atlantic long a.go in many Well authenticated instances; in the case of one individual Ayrshire there has been a record of 1,805 gallons attained, so that even in this breed they are aiming at 2.000 gallons—of our measure, not American measures—as a point to bo reached ia time. There is no doubt that this will all come in time, if we keep on at it long enough and practise ,a system of artificial selection. GOOD FEEDING. It must be. noted of course that while feeding will not permanently improve the yielding power of a eow, yet if that animal is a deep milker she must ^e fed "very heavily in proportion. There was a ease some years ago of a Jersey which gave quite four times as much milk as the ordinary jtin of and with a very high percentage of fat; un- fortunately, however, she ate four times as much food as an ordinary jersey, so that practically thwe Was little gain in her case at all. All the same the cow that we arc reaching out after is one that shall yield well, and only eat food in proportion to the yield, and this also can be made a matter of selec tion and development. The most practical way of improving our dairy herds in this direction is to buy ;l thoroughly good bull, and an animal of this class will probably be very expensive. We have seen that the latter, however, is- necessary to some of the high-class milking herds and to other herds which rat the same time had a beef pedigree behind them. I'here are not very many typical specimens of dual Purpose animals in which both beef and milk ai-e combined, and the prices given for these are very high indeed. Nevertheless it probably payu the purchasers to give such prices be- cause of the splendid results they would Set in the future by improving the next generation of animals. The summary of the whole matter is to use onlv bulls of the best milking strain ftnd to breed only from our best yielding cows, and We shall get better animals in time. MARKETS. GRAIN. NEWPORT, Wod., July 50.—Wheat and flour were reported to have remained firm and unchanged, Maize and barley were quiet at about last week's prices, and in some cases a shado easier. Oatl; were unchanged. Milling offal, owing to the continuance of the very dry weather, was in very much better demand than of late, and was fully 55 per ton dearer. HEREFORD, Wed., July 30.Small attendanoe. English wheats firm, supply small. Nothing doing in barleys and oats. Maize firm at last week's prices. CATTLE. LEICESTER, July 26.-About 200 store offered, consisting of home-bred and Irish horns; the oontinued drought has at last had an effect on the trade, and stock changed hands at rather less money, three-year-olds making up to £20. Dairy cows sold very dear, the best calved heifers and cows making from j322 to £24 per head. Store calves are cheaper. WELLINGTON (Salop). July 28.—Some very- prime Hereford bullocks were included in the sale to-day, several of these making £28 per head, or 46s per live cwt., while the average prioe for animal; of that class would be about 43s ,&I, or 6d more than last week. Demand for sheep showed a marked improvement, especially for fat ewes, wethers making 9d, and fat ewes 8d, per lb., while lambs of the realiy best quality realised 10gd per lb. SHREWSBURY, July 29.—Rather more cattle in the market than last week: anything at all prime sold readily at 8d to 8*d per lb., but other sorts were in slow demand at from 7^1 down to 6d per lb. Sheep in rather better request at slightly higher prices, while pigs werc also 8 good trade at about 12s 9d per score for the best quality. SHREWSBURY, July 29.JÛwing to the hot weatner, store cattle were a slow trade; a few Hereford bullocks realised about 40s, some barren heifers about 38s, and some young heifers, about 18 months old, 37s per live cwt., but demand was by no means fast. Dairy oows sold well, up to JB30 per head. Store pigs very dear, some animals of about 10 or 11 weeks old and in poor condition making 36s and 376 each. WrOLVERHA MPTON, July 30.-Nea.rly 306 fat cattle in the market, but 1st quality again scarce; the best fed beasts made about 43s 6d, and other Borts 38s to 40s per live cwt., prices showing a fall of about Is per live c.wt. on the week. Sheep in very good demand, ewes especially being rather dearer than week; nice quality wethers made 9d, fat owes 8d, and lambs 9d to lOtd per lb. Pigs numbered 381, trade being very sharp at fully last week's quotations. NOTTINGHAM, July 30.-Sman show ejf cattle, but trade slow, the best quality making only 8s 6d per stone, and other sorts from 7s to 8s. Sheep included several lots of nice quality Longwools, the best of which made Bid, while Downs and Cross breds realised about 9d per lb. for 1st quality, and 8d for 2nd. Lambs were short in numbers; one lot of large well-grown Cross-breds realised 50s each. but trade was slow at 8d to 9d per lb. Small show of fat pig6 which mado up to 9s per stone. LEICESTER July 30.—Large supply of cattle, and trade considerably easier for all except the very best finished sorts; these made slightly over 7d. but secondary quality and fat oows could be bought at 6d to 7d per lb. Sheep and lambs were also penned in large numbers, 1,700 being in the market; nice quality light-weights made Bid, the heavier sorts 7jd, and fat ewes about &ld per lb., while lambs did not make over 9d for the best quaity, trade for both sheep and laonbs being by no means so good as last i week. Pigs showed very little change, last week's high prices being maintained. NEWPORT, Wed., July 30.—There was a larger supply of all stock here to-day than had been the case recently, which met with a ready sale at the following prices:—Bert beef 7d per lb., seconds 7d to 7d, cows and bulls 5&d to Pd, best wether mutton 8d to 8kd. ewe d to 7d, lambs jd to 9Jd, ami oalves 7d to 9d; pigrr-porliers 12s 6d to 13s per score, and sows 8e to 88 6d. HEREFORD, Wed., July 30.—Short supply, but trade good. Beef not quite so dear—best quality 7d to 8d, and secondary aorta 7-d per lb. Stores limited, and trade slow. Wethers realised up to 9d. ewes 6d to 7d, and lambs 8d to 9gd per lb. Very few fcaconers, porkers 6 £ d to 7gd. PROVISIONS. SOME NEW ANECDOTES OF MARK TWAIN.—Some interest-ng reminiscences of Mark Twain, written by Mrs. Allen, the lady in whose house, in Bermuda, he stayed during thf last months of his life, appear in the August number of the "Shand Magazine." She writes that "Mark Twain, although the oreator of the mt ldvable hoy in literature. Tom Sawyer,' was really more interested in little girls, and it was. through his interest and affection for my little daughter Helen that we came to know him so well and to share the last months of his life. He used to pretend that only girls were interesting, that boys ought not to exist until they wore men. The fact wa, he really was interested in any young creature. In one of the books he gave Helen he wrote: It is better to be a young June-beetle than an old bird of para- dise.' He had the lifelong habit of under-scoring unything he thought true or beautiful in the book or magazine he was reading. I found this quota- tion much underscored in a magazine he read while he was with us: 'It has been said that a man's Inst will and testament best expresses his character. it? Do we not rather know a man best from the simple act. look, or speech of daily life, when the consciousness is unaware?"

PONTARDULAIS AGRICULTURAL SHOW The annual agricultural show at Pontardulais drew a splendid attendance. The entries reaobed over 200, and the quality of the exhibits was singu- larly high. Mr. Mervyn Peel presided at the lunoheon, and proposed the health of the judges, remarking that they had every reason to be gratified with the success of the exhibition from whatever standpoint it was considered. PROPERTY SALES I (MESSRS. JOHN FRANCIS & SON.) At the De Rutzen Hotel, Naiberth, on Thursday ;.n last week, Messrs. John Francis and Son, of Carmar- then, offered valuable freehold estates situate in the parishes of Bletherston, Llanycefn, and Lampcter Velfrey, in the county of Pembroke, containing r altogether 567 acres, or thereabouts. There were eighteen lots, all of which were sold, with the excep- tion of five, the majority being disposed of privately before the sale. John Francis and Son, Carmarthen, offered for sale the leasehold dwelling-house Glanmor House," Brigstocke-terrace, lFerryside. The pre- mises are held under a lease for 99 years, which will expire on the 25th March, 1974, at the apportioned ground rent of £1 4s, and were lately let at the annual rent of j616. The property was sold to Mr. Evan Davies, butcher, Ferryside, for 2185. On Saturday Messrs. John Francis and Son offered for sale at the Ivy Bush Hotel, Carmarthen, the freehold farm known as Penlan," otherwise Hendy, in the parish of St. Ishmael's, Ferryside. The whole contains 7i6a. Ir. 35p. of pasture and arable land, and is now let at the annual rental of B104, tenant paying all outgoings exoept tithes. The lot was withdrawn --it £ 2,450. At the Salutation Hotel, Newcastle Emlyn, on Friday, Mr. John Evans offered the freehold farm of Penbeilybach, in the parish of Llandyfriog, con- taining about 71a. Ir. 22p., together with the two cottages and gardens in the occupation of Mr. Richard Griffiths and Mr. Thomas Davies. The property, which is within two miles of Newcastle- Emlyn, was sold for £1,920 to Mr. Benjamin Davies, Bank, Llandyfriog. The cottage and garden called Penddol, occupied by Mrs. Sarah Evans, was sold to the tenant for JE75. The solicitors were Messrs. Evans and Stephens, Cardigan; Messrs. Morgan and Richardson, Cardigan; and Messrs. George, Son, and Davies, Cardigan.

THE WELSH FLANNEL INDUSTRY At a meeting of woollen manufacturers, held at Pencader, the question of the great rise in the price of wool, oils, etc., came up for serious considera- tion. On top of this the Insurance Act has meant a no small outlay.. Those present, and they in- cluded strong representations from Carmarthen, Llanybyther, Pencader, Llandyssul, Drefach, and Velindre, felt that it was full time that a move should be made in order to be able to carry on the industry. According to the present outlay the productions cannot be sold at the same price as hitherto. It was decided to form an Association ot Woollen Manufacturers, and MT. D. James, Green Meadow Mills, Velindre, was appointed secretary, and was asked to endeavour to get the South Wales manufacturers to co-operate. A price list was drawn up, and the increase in the prices of the various manufacturers was only in proportion to the advanced prioes paid by them for materials, etc. This is a step in the right direction; and one which has been advocated for a long time in our columns. The whole question amounts to this,— How are the manufacturers to obtain their margin ,under present conditions? They cannot buy at less than the market prices. On the other hand they cannot make any deductions from the workmen's wages, as those are cut fine enough already. The only remedy is by increasing the prices of their goods accordingly. Large quantities of flannel, etc., find their way to the colliery districts, and we feel perfectly confident that the "honest and warm-hearted old Sboni" will not begrudge the couplo of coppers extra he will be called upon to pay for his shirting wbcn he will realise that it will be in order to prevent a sweating system among co-workers in the flannel trade. We certain- ly would not dream of supporting th-s movement were we not convinced that it is the only way in which the old industry can be kept upon its legs. It is to be hoped that all manufacturers will join this Association and act in a perfectly straight- forward manner, for if they attempt to "out," they will ultimately cut their own throats. No good can come of "cutting" in the long run. An in- stance of this was seen some years ago, and instead of catching another man's customers, he was ignored, and the buyer denounced him. Serve him right too.

LLANWNEN. DAATH.- W are sorry to chronieie the death of Mr. John Thomas. Trellwyn, Llanwnon, which occurred early on Sunday morning, after a long illness, aged 48 years. He left a widow and eight children, and two sisters, Mrs. Jones, Church Hill House, Lampeter, and Mrs. Jones, Tynlofft, Silian, and several other relatives to mourn. His mortal remains were interred at Llanwnen Churchyard on Thursday, when the Rev. W. E. J. Jones, vicar, officiated. <

SHOW AND SPORTS AT LAMPETER A very suooeesful fete and gala, sports, and horticultural show, under the auspices of the Men's Institute, was held at St. David's College Field on Monday. A large number of townspeople and visitors were present, and thoroughly enjoyed the splendid programme prepared by the Committee. PENCADER PRESENTATION. —On the 24th ult., a well-attended meeting was held at Christ Church Schoolroom, Llanelly, when the Rev. D. R. Enooh was preesnted witn a tangible token of the esteem in which he was hpld by the good people of St. David and Christ Church on his departure. The presentation con- sisted of a handsome roll-top desk and revolving chair in oak, and a very exquisite silver communion service. The Rev. D. Davies, B.A., vicar of St. Paul, presided, and in the course of his remarks re- ferred to the splendid work accomplished by Mr. Enoch during h;8 stay of seven years in their midst. He always found hm a man of strong convictions, earnest and zealous in the discharge of his duties, sympathetic and greatly interested in the welfare of young people, assiduous in his ministrations to the sick nad needly, and most energetic in the furtherance of every work in connection with the Church. He was an excellent preacher in English and Welsh. The presentation of the desk was made by Mr. Robert Fisher, the senior member of Christ Church; the revolving chair by Mr. John Fisher, lay superintendent of the Sunday School, on behalf of the young men; and the Communion Service by Mr. D. E. Perrot, churchwarden of St. David. The above friends, supported by Mr. Wh^eks and Mr. Vaugnan Jones, in sincere and appropriate addresses, bore striking testimony to Mr. Enoch's arduous and sucessful labours. Mr. Enoch feelingly responded, and thanked all for their great kindness towards him at all times. He would treasure their gifta, and ever regard them as mementoes of kind friends, and of a happy time spent at Llinelly. During the evening musical items were contributed by Miss Lake, Miss Mabel Pfrrott. Mrs. Rose Pritchard, and Mr. Robert Lewis. The Rev. D. R. Enoch, whose appointment as curate-in-eharge of Penclawdd, Llanrhidian, was announced in these columns a few weeks ago, is a native of Pencader.

DREFACH. ACCIDENT.—Mr. Johnny Williams, of Tonypandy, on his holidays in the diistrict, met with rather a bad accident in the nasty turning by Henllan Bridge. The damage luckily was not a very serious one, and he is progressing favourably.

FROM THE "CARMARTHBN JOURNAL," FRIDAY, AUGUST 6, 1813. The Lord Bishop of St. David's preached on Sunday last, at St. Peter's Church, in this town. from Gal. Chap. 5 ver. 22 and 23. The respective and characteristic attributes of the works of the flesh, and of the fruits of the spirit, were pointed out with the greatest precision and perspicuity the active and passive virtues, whick constitute the leading principles of the Christian's duty, satisfactorily explained; and an exhortion to the study and practice of that duty, conformably to the doctrines of Christ and his Apostles, was earnestly addressed to a numerous congregation, by the Right Rev. Prelate. The prayer, .before the sermon, was peculiarly adapted to the present times, and, we have no doubt, made a suitable impression. Several human skeletons have recently been dis- covered, in the cava-ties of a. rook, adjoining a quarry, in the parish of Llanfihangel Aberbythick, Carmarthenshire. SAILING MATCH AT MILFORD. The first of August falling on a Sunday, the usual boat race for a silver cup, and colours, given annually by the Right Hon. Lord Cawdor, Governor of Milford Haven, and the festivities at Milford, took place on Monday, the 2d.-The boats that started for the cup were the Governor, the property of Benjamin Rotch, of Castle Hall, Esq., and .the Lavinia, OOlonging to Oapt. Lee, of Pont ypool. Esq., the weather, being wet. was un- favourable for the spectators; but there was a brisk gale and they beat their destined oourse from Milford Road down to the southward of the Quarantine Station, and round the Stack Rock, in very flne style, and returned to the Road before the wind. The oup was won by the Governor, and the colours by the Atalanta, belonging to a fisherman of Angle.—After the race, a party of Gentlemen dined, as usual, at the Nelson Hotel. Lord Cawdor being absent in Scotland, the Chair was filled by H. Leach, Esq., Collector of the Customs. The table was covered with every deli- oacy, including turtle and venison; a number of loyal and patriotic toasts were drank, interspersed with some excellent songs, and harmony and good humour were the order of the day. RACES AT PEMBRIN, CARDIGANSHIRE. A Boene highly sportive and entertaining was lately exhibited on Pembrin Sands, in Cardigan shire. Thos. and James Lloyd, Eeqrs, of -tironwydd, having given a general invitation to their friends, and the inhabitants at large, of that neighbour- hood; to meet at an early hour on the morning of Monday. July 5, on the above sands, about five hundred well mounted horsemen, together with in- numerable pedestrians, assembled accordingly. between eight and nine o'clock; when a purse of five guineas, to be run for by the horses of Cardi ganshire farmers, was liberally offered by Thos. Lloyd, Esq. Ten horses started for this purse, and, after some sharp running, it was won in great style by Mr. John Jones, of Trewtial's chestnut mare (Fancy." This was succeeded by a pony race, for a hat of the value of 11. lis. 6d. given by James Lloyd, Esq., which, after being sharply contested, was won by a chestnut filly, the pro- perty of Mr. Henry Williams, called Nancy Dawson." A foot race, for five guineas, given by the last-mentioned Gentleman, then took placo between nine young men, which was won by David Mathias. The flow of the tide occasioning a temporary suspension of these sports, a great part of the company amused themselves, in the interim, in aquatio excursions, while others had recourse to leaping, throwing the bar, and other rural diversions, in the fields; and about four o'clock in the afternoon, racing re-commenced with twelve horses running for a handsome bridle, value 21. 12s. 6d., given also by James Lloyd, Esq.; this..being by far the best contested race, was, after three heats, won by a grey mare of Mr. Thomas, of Cnwkfedwin, called Grey Bess," beating" ALderbrook" the property of Mr. Wil- liam Davies, of dosglas, only by a neck. A maiden plate was then run for by several damsels present; but who was the favourite of Fortune on the occasion, or what was the prize contended for, we have not learnt. To the great satisfaction of those who partook of the before mentioned amuse- ments, an annual exhibition of the kind has been announced; and, nepct year, a pig, of the value of 41. 10s., will be given as a prize to the person that catches him; the tail being previously close shaved and soaped. Much real sport is antici- pated from this trial of skill; for, if the object of pursuit be a pig of experience and discretion; or even the five and twentieth cousin of the far-famed learned pig, he will infalliby slip through the fingers of pursuers, and "save his bacon." We are happy to find that the situation and advantages of Milford Haven are at length bo- ginning to appear: that harbour is now, by a late order of the Prince Regent, in Council, made a general Quarantine Establishment for all the western ports of the United Kingdom, by which all merchant ships and vessels bound from the Mediterranean to Bristol, Liverpool, and all other ports within the western district, although not furnished with clean bills of health (provided they have not the plague, or any other infectious disease or distemper on board), are permitted to perform their quarantine at Milford Haven, instead of going round to Standgate Creek; a regulation which cannot fail to prove highly advantageous to the underwriters ana the mercantile interests of that part of the country to which it extends; and in order that every accommodation may be afforded for airing the goods which may arrive in vessels from the Mediterranean so situated, the Triumph, 74, at Plymouth, is ordered to be fitted up and sent to Milford as an additional lazaret to the Syren frigate, already stationed at that Port, where the following vessels have now yellow flags flying—viz., the Malta, Bale, and Britannia. Fish, from Malta; Morvinia, Evans, from Mesaina and Malta; Syren Lazaret, having on board part of the cargoes of the above named vessels; and the brig George, Deverson, master, for having had a man put on board her from his Majesty's cutter Sprightly, she being liable to quarantine.—We are assured from the best authority that not the smallest appear- ance of disease has manifested itself among their I crews. On Tuesday, the driver of the Lord Wellington Coach, to Aberystwyth, was fined in the mitigated penalty of 51. for carrying more outside passengers than what is allowed fey Act of Parliament. 1

BIRTH. On Monday evening last, at Furnace House, in this town, the lady of Charles Morgan, Esq., M.D., of a son and heir; which gratifying event. was announced, by the most lively demonstrations of joy, such as the long-oontinued ringing of bells, drinking of healths, and other festive scenes; and we have the pleasure to add that both Mrs, Morgan and the infant doing well. DIED. On Friday last, much regretted, Mrs. William*, of Ffynnon-lwyd, Carmarthenshire.

BREGHFA. SCHOLASTOC SUCCESS.—The many friends of Miss Frances E. Jones, The Rectory, Brechfa, will be glad to learn that at a meeting of the Glamorgan- shire Education Committee, held at Cardiff last Thursday week, she was appointed headmistress of the Infants' Department of the Trelewis Council School, at a commencing salary of J6110 per annum. Miss Jones was principally educated at the High School for Girls, Carmarthen, passing on for a short course at the County School in the same town, and finally trained at the North Wales Training College, Bangor.

PANTTEG PLRSOXAL.— The worthy pastor of Pantteg Chapel (t Rev. Peter Davies) having broken down in health, the congregat.on has decided to present him with a testimonial and a purse of money to show their appreciation of his services, and to enable him to enjoy a long-needed'rest. He was educated at Bala College, which he left with a high reputat-on as a scholar. During the twenty-five years he has been pastor at Pantteg Chapel his life has been upright and sympathetic, holy and peaceful; an ardent worker for good and a fitting example to be emulated by all. Subscriptions, sent by some of his congregation who have left the district, or any of his admirers, will be thankfully received by Mr. T. Davies, Llwyngwyn, Abergwili, Carm.
