REVIEW OF THE BRITISH CORN TRADE. In some districts of England there are complaints of drought, of difficulty in watering sheep, of low springs and empty wells. For the most part, how- ever, the past week has been seasonable, and some Febrnary wheat has been sown. The air has be6n clearer and crisper than before; in fact, on Wedner, ay. Thursday, and Saturday mornings there wap a oucli of frost. Market deliveries of home produce have been favourably affected by the diminution in atmospheric humidity, but it is no longer to be dis- guised that the wheat crop of 1890 contained an abnormally large proportion of irregular and unsatisfactory grain. The barley cnp has not dis- appointed threshers with respect to bulk, but the quality is by no means that of a geod year. The best crops prove to be oats, beans, and peas. English wheat in London makes an average price of 33s 5d per qr, and the imperial average for the month of January was 32s 8d, against 32s 3d in December and 30s Id in January, 1890. Sales since harvest :ated 4'349,652 qrs' as compared with 4,586,824 qrs^in the same period of last cereal veir and 3 5o9.39o qrs in the like part of the cereal year f"? ,a.u'iwii,y P«t. tlio reserve in preceding. The markets of Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday were dull except in the north where an 1 improvement in the retail enquiry was mani- rested.
