CORWEN. PROPOSED SHEEP DOG TRIALS.—We understand that it is the intention of some of our leading towns- men to try and get "sheep dog trials" held at Corwen in tuo or three weeks' time. A meeting for that purpose was recently held at the Harp Ian. Mr. H. was appointed secretary pro. tern. Messrs. Evan Davies Harp, John E,-ans, iron- monger, E. Sharp, auctioneer, and J. Hughes, Eagles, wore appointed canvassers. Mr. T. H. Price was appointed treasurer. POPULAR ENTERTAINMENTS.— The first of a series of these entertainments was given at the British School on Friday evening. Oct. 17, Eeyr Alwen in the chair. Mr. E. James, solicitor, and Mr. Horatio E. Walker were also on the platform. A varied programme was gone through. The singers were Eos Merion, Mr. K Williams, Mr. Ellis Edwards, ard Miss A. J. Williams. Recitations and readings were given by Messrs*. L. Williams, David Williams, E. 0. Davies and R. E. Davies. Competitions in reading and spelling also took place, and a prize was given to "Ab Alwen" for the best speech on Depression of Trade, in which an attack on the Government- was made. A vote of thanks to the Chairman was proposed by Mr. James and seconded by Mr. Walker, acd carried rdth applause.
