TOWYN.
TOWYN. SUCCESS.—Mr D. J. Roberts, nephew of Mr Hugh Roberts, College Green, and an old pupil of the Towyn National School, was the winner of a 10- guinea prize at the recent Llandudno eisteddfod offered for the best plan of an elementary school capable of accommodating 400 children. Mr Roberts is a very young man, and had to compete with many old and experienced architects. WELSH MATRICULATION.—In the list of successes at the Welsh Matriculation examination we find that three Towyn students have been placed, namely, Mr Wm. Roberts, Brynglas, 2nd class; Mr D. Meirion Mason, who satisfied the examiners in four subjects, and Mr Joseph Andrew Lewis, who satisfied the examiners in three subjects. Each of the successful candidates were pupils at the In- termediate School. OBITUARY. The death occurred on Tuesday evening week of Mrs Elizabeth Owen, the wife of Mr Evan Owen, Gwalia Road, at the age of 63 years. Deceased had been for years a faithful member of the Welsh Congregational Church. The funeral which took place on Saturday was largely attended, and Revs H. Williams, Towyn, and J. Thomas, Coedpoeth, officiated at the house and in the cemetery. ERRATA.—Mr W. W. Jones calls our attention to a slight error which crept into the reminiscences of old Towyn, which dealt with the late Mr Francis Williams. It was stated that this old character was in his younger days fond of a bit of a spree." This our informant states was not correct as Mr Williams was a zealous advocate of temperance. We hasten to correct this error fearing it may have hurt the feelings of the relatives. COUNTY INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL. RESULT OF SCHOLARSHIP EXAMINATION, JULY 1896. We have just received a list of the successful candidates in the recent scholarship examination held in connection with this school. The result is most satisfactory. The full number of marks that could possibly be gained was 245, and it will be seen that the first two candidates received nearly 100 per cent of these, whilst the third candidate in order of merit proved himself under very dis- advantageous circumstances to be well able to hold his own. The following is the list Elizabeth Williams, Aberdovey Hoard School, 235 marks, full scholarship, open; Rowland Davies, Aberdovey Board School, 233, John Owen full scholarship; Thomas Davies, Dinas Board School, 211, full scholarship, open David James, Aber- dovey Board School, 185, half scholarship, open; Alun Jones, Corris Board School, 182, half scholar- ship, Talyllyn, closed; Elizabeth Humphreys, Aber- dovey Board School, 176, half scholarship, open; Sarah E.
