THE BADMINTON TOURNAMENT. A correspondent writes :-The hraggadocia style of describing the match between the North Car- diganshiie Badminton Club and the Machynlleth Club needs qualifying, and the saving there are two sides to every question is plainly shown, for one side only was given in the account of the 20th inst. It was true the N.C.B.C. v- ere "decidedly off in their play, and quite at sea and seemed as if unused to the new arena and courts, the surroundings seemed strange to .them and their play was con- sequently a wee bit strange." True, very true. Would not a billiard player be off his s'reke if asked to play on a table a quarter the correct size ? or a Renshaw seem "at se3." if expected to playa match on a tennis court half its yroper dimensions ? or a hockey player think his surroundings looked strange" when told to play on a piece of ground two inches by two ? Such were the feelings of the members of the N.C.B.C., and their "amazement and bewilderment" were caused not by the "dwift move- ments of their opponents" but by the feeling of suffocation and want of elbow room. The game was nil, but the hospitality and geniality of the hosts and hostesses quite made up to the guests for what was no fault but the misfortune of their kind entertainers in having so small a hall, and the N.C.B.C. left with only one regret that the Machyn- lleth Club would not avail themselves of the press- ing invitation for a return match at Aberystwyth where they could at least promise them a good game. As there was no account sent last year of the match it may not now be out of place to men- tion that the Mitchynileth team were beaten by'36 games to nil. Perhaps readers of two sides of the question are not surprised the Machynlleth Club refused the challenge of the N.C.B.C. -+--
