Intermediate Education. A LOCAL QUESTION. The Governors of the Carmarthenshire Intermediate Schools held a quarterly meeting in the Carmarthen Shire Hall on Wednesday afternoon in last week. Mr C. Lloyd, Waunifor, presiding. A report on the Board of Education inquiry as to the advisability of establishing a secondary school for girls at Lampeter was considered and de "erred to the next meeting. It was pointed out that at a recent conference there was general approval of the proposal that arrangements should be made to enable pupil teachers to be sent for their general education to county schools, except where other suitable arrangements existed Sir Lewis Morris asked Principal Evans whether he had not stated at the conference that the pupil teacher system ought to be abolished. Principal Evans, Presbyterian College, Carmarthen, observed that what he had stated was that Principal Roberts (of the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth), in dwelling upon the excellence of his scheme, describe it as an ideal scheme to be followed. It let him (Principal Evans) to protest against its being so represented by an educational conference such as that was. We have done away with child labour in our factories and mines, and why should it be perpetuated in our elementary schools ? As ^provisional or stop-gap measure no doubt that Principal Roberts's scheme was on the right lines, and in that belief he now moved that that body proceed to the appointment of a committee to draw up a scheme suitable to the circumstances of Carmarthen- shire, such scheme to be submitted to the consider- ation -,of a further conference to be called by the County Governing Body. Sir Lewis Morris seconded, and the committee was appointed.
