THE FOLLOWING ARE THE CHIEF JL Provisions of the Law stated in gen- eral terms:— 1. Every person who undertakes for pay- ment the nursing and maintenance of any child under the age of seven apart from its parents for more than 48 hours, must at once give notice to the Board of Guardians. The notice must state the name and sex of the child, the date and place of its birth, the name of the person receiving, and the dwelling where it is being kept; and also the name and address of the per- son from whom it has been received. 2. If a person who has received a child removes, he must at once give notice of his removal to the Guardians, and if he removes to the district of another Board of Guard- ians, he must give to those Guardians the same notice as was required on the first reception of the child. 3. If the child is transferred to the care of another person, notice must at once be given of the name and address of that per- son. Notice must also be given to the Guardians in the event of the death of the child. 4. Any person who, before the 1st of April, 1909, undertook the nursing and maintenance of a child for payment must, if the child is still with him, give notice to the Guardians, by the 30th May, 1909, un- less when he received the child he gave notice then required by law. 5. In case of the death of the child notice must be given to the Coroner and the Guardians within 24 hours. 6. All persons receiving children under seven for payment must admit the Visitor or other person appointed by the Board of Guardians to inspect the infants and the premises where they are kept. 7. They must also obey the directions of the Board of Guardians with regard to the number of children who may be re- ceived in any place, and with regard to the removal of any child from their care. 8. No child under seven shall be kept for payment by a person who has been de- prived of the care of any child by order of the Guardians, or of a Justice, or by a per- son who has been convicted of cruelty to a child, unless the Guardians consent in writing; and no child under seven shall (without such consent) be kept in any premises from which an infant has been removed because the premises were danger- ous or insanitary. 9. Every person who disobeys these re- quirements is liable to be sent to prison for six months ortio be fined £25. 10. These requirements do not apply to Hospitals, Charitable Institutions, or Board- ing Schools, nor to the parents or guardians of the children, nor to the grandparents, brothers, sisters, uncles, or aunts, nor to persons specially exempted by the Board of Guardians in accordance with the provisions of the Act. 11.
