School Governors.—A meeting of the County School Governors was convened for Tuesday evening, but failing to form a quorum, no business was transacted. FREE TEA.—A free tea was held in the Welsh Wesleyan Schoolroom on Friday afternoon, when promises of subscriptions- were made towards the chapel funds to the amount of nearly £100. FOOTBALL.-The Llanidloes Albions en- gaged a Rhayader eleven in a friendly game on the Albions ground on Saturday, and defeated the visitors by eleven goals to nil. Cymmrodorion Society.—Mr Gwilym Ed- munds, J.P., presided over a meeting of the Llanidloes Cymmrodorion Society held on Thursday evening in the Town Hall. Professor J. Bryner Jones, of Aberystwyth University College, delivered an interest- ing lecture on Famous Welsh personali- ties in the Stuart and Tudor periods." On Wednesday a meeting was held at the Congregational Chapel in connection with the Women's Temperance Society, to con- sider the advisability of starting a girls' guild. In the absence of Mrs Edward, Davies, Plas Dinam, Mrs Lloyd Jones, of Llandinam, occupied the chair. The prin- cipal speaker was Mrs Herbert Lewis,. M.A., wife of Mr Herbert Lewis, M.P. It was decided to hold a further meeting this- week. Gifts to the Library.—Mr John James, of Hereford, has presented to the Free Library sixteen bound volumes of the Imperial Dictionary of Universal Biography," and a three volume edition of the Life of Napoleon Bounaparte" has been forwarded by Mr W. Evans, a friend of Mr James. Another gift is a framed and engraved portrait of Dr Abraham Rees, F.R.S., who was born at Llanbrynmair in 1743, sent by Mr H. B. Williams, now of Birmingham. Tea and Entertainment.—On Wednesday a tea and concert was held at the Glany- nant Chapel, the proceeds of which went in aid of the chapel funds. After an ex- cellent tea the concert was presided over by Mr J. Kinsey Jones. The programme consisted of renderings by Mr D. R. Owen's choir solos by Misses Hannah Owen, Ethel Owen, Jessie Morgan, and Messrs W. Jones and Bert Davies recitations by Misses May Jones, Hannah May Jones, Blanche Wemyss, and Mr D. M. Jones dialogue by Misses Blanche Wemyss and Blodwen Owen. ACCIDENT TO MR. JOHN MILL-On Mon- day last, whilst at Llanbrynmair supervis- ing some work being done by some of his workmen, Mr John Mills, proprietor of the Railway Iron Foundry, met with a serious accident, as a result of which he is now prostrate with a severely fractured thigh. It appears that Mr Mills was on his way from the Bellan Farm to the Plas, in com- pany with Mr Wigley, the tenant of the Bellan, when he had the misfortune to fall in descending a flight of steps. He lay in the storm quite helpless while Mr Wigley went for assistance. The unfortunate gen- tleman was then conveyed Jo the Bellan farm, and Dr Davies was fetched by Mr Wigley, and arrived in the small hours of Tuesday morning. Examination showed that the patient was severely hurt. Mr Mills bore up well, and thereby greatly aided the efforts of Dr Davies. On Thurs- day afternoon a special train conveyed Mr Mills to Llanidloes, and with the assist- ance of the railway ambulance corps, was safely transferred to his residence at Mid Wales House. Under the skilful attention of Dr Davies and Nurse Duncan his con- dition is improving. The news of the acci- dent was received by the townspeople with much regret, and sympathetic enquiries are daily beng made regarding the sufferer's condition THE NEW MAYOR.—A special meeting of the Council was held on Saturday evening, over which the Mayor (Alderman Edward Hamer) presided. There was a full attend- ance with the exception of Councillor Ed- mund Davies, who was unavoidably absent. The newly-elected councillors inscribed the roll of offlee.The Mayor expressed his gra- tification at the return of Councillors Jer- man, Meredith, and Morris, but regretted the defeat of Councillor David Owen, whom, he said, had been a very useful member. He also extended a hearty welcome to the new councillors, Mr Thomas Evans, Dr Davies, and Mr Edmund Davies.—The chief business of the evening was the election of mayor.—Alderman Edward Davies moved the re-election of Alderman Edward Hamer, and Councillor John Breese seconded.— Alderman George questioned whether it was in order for Alderman Davies to move the re-election. If his memory served him aright, he believed an alderman could not make such a motion, and had no vote in the election of mavor.-Alderman Davies produced a cutting from a London paper, which stated that an outgoing alderman could take no part in the election of mayor, but one not outgoing could do so. This point, he found, was borne out by the authorities.—The Town Clerk coincided, and Alderman George accepted the correction.— To make the matter beyond question, how- ever, Councillor J. K. Jones moved the re- election of Alderman Hamer, and the mo- tion was carried unanimously.—The Mayor returned thanks. OBITUARY.—With regret we record the death of Mrs Owen, wife of Mr D. H. Owen, of Maesbury House, Great Oak- street, who passed away suddenly on Tues- day morning. Mrs Owen, who was 40 years of age, had been engaged with her domestic duties on Monday morning. In the after- noon she complained of feeling ill, and Dr Davies was called in. Her condition was not considered serious, and that night Mr Owen went to bed as usual. The deceased lady called him about four a.m., when he noticed a change. Before aid was obtained, however, she passed away. The funeral took place on Friday afternoon, and was at- tended by a large and representative gather- ing. Blinds were drawn on all business premises. The Revs B. T. Davies and Evan Isaacs officiated. The chief mourners were Mr D. H. Owen (husband), Masters Howard and Arnold Owen (sons), Mr T. Morgan (father), Messrs R. H. Evans, W. Morgan, and D. O. Morgan (brothers), Mr and Mrs W. Jones, Oswestry (sister and brother-in- law), Miss Millie Morgan (sister), Mrs Jones, Ruabon (cousin), Mr D. Owen (father-in-law), Mrs Bliss, Penarth (sister- in-law), Miss Owen (sister-in-law), Mr and Mrs J. H. Meredith (brother and sister-in- law), Mrs Evans and Mrs Gibson (aunts), Mr and Mrs Morgan (uncle and aunt), Mr Charles Morgan, Hereford (cousin), Mr Stephens Humphreys, Carno Mill, Mrs Lloyd, Newtown, Miss Owen, Frankwell, Mrs and Miss Humphreys, Caersws (cousins). The bearers were Messrs T. Morgan, G. Morgan, and E. Humphreys (cousins), and Mr Neville Meredith (nephew). Beautiful floral tributes were sent by the following Mr R. H.
